Ferrari 388 GTBi by Moto Technique: a Ferrari 308 restomod with a 3.8L Dino V8 & ITBs!

- Watch and hear the beautiful Ferrari 388 GTBi, a restomod of the 308 GTB/GTS build by Moto Technique, driving on the beautiful roads of Engadin, in Switzerland, during the 2023 Bernina Gran Turismo and the 2021 Passione Engadina. The original 3.0 Dino V8 engine has been increased in displacement up to 3.8-liter and it has been fitted with 8 gorgeous individual throttle bodies. But the changes made obviously don't stop here.
New suspensions have been added such as various elements modified in order to improve rigidity. There’s a new twin-fan cooling set-up under the nose, while the rebuilt steering has a higher ratio and the addition of electric power assistance. Rear arches are flared by an additional 50mm, in much the style of the Group 4 308, to house wider 18-inch alloy wheels and 235/40 front and 315/30 rear tyres.

You know how Jay Leno always talks about opening the engine bay should be like opening a juwelry box ? That's what I thought of here. That engine is a piece of art.
I love everything but the sound.
Kevin O'Rourke's team at Moto Technique really have produced a great 308 variant with that 3.8-liter EVO. More than just extra horsepower, its the improved ignition, braking, handling, fusebox, etc. For cars notorious with hating 2nd gear until very warm, these upgraded ones have no such issue. With over 400bhp I suspect against a 288 GTO these cars might just edge out the supercar in performance.
The commentary regarding a rough cold second gear are only partially true. A friend of mine bought an older 308GTB and asked me to drive it for him. I worked in a Ferrari shop and had a bit more experience with that than he did at the time. The important part that made the difference between grinding incessantly and quietly moving out of the driveway is patience. Ease it out, keep the RPM low for a few moments and if it helps, double clutch a bit. The 308 had the dog-leg 1st gear so you had to be gently going from 1st-across the gate-into 2nd. After I had 5-10 miles on the cold engine it woke up a bit and started to act like it wanted to play. I also have several hundred thousand miles behind me, driving semi trucks with 10, 13, & 15 speed gearboxes. A gentle hand always helps with a cold gearbox. My 2001 BMW 330xi has a bit past 215,000 miles on it and it still shifts like a new car. It also has the original clutch and running gear. I plan to keep that thing until I can't drive any more... and that's gonna be a looong time. 😂

I have always had the 308 as a favorite since my teens in the 80s! Today it looks so small, and it is! Just like old Porsches. When my 3.1 (or so) BTC reach 250*, I'm all in for a crazy ass restomod 308!
308 is a work of art but man, the potential sure is there for some tasteful restomods! Great looking and sounding car. At only around 2600lbs or so I bet that thing zooms with over 400hp.

thats not a dino v8 btw, thats just a myth. this engine has nothing to do with the v6 dino.
What is a Dino V8? I only know the small Dino Ferrari with V6... Besides that it's not revving that high, or? Yep, there are better sounding Ferrari's but it's having the classic 288/308/328 Design of my age!😎👍
@@einautofan6685 yeah the FIAT/Ferrari dino V6 is the actual "dino" engine that shares absolutely nothing with this v8. confusion comes from the fact that first 308s were the 308 gt4 dino models and were the first to carry this v8 and people probably thought its also a dino engine when in fact it isnt
