  • Another blog in the world that is MK1 Focuses... this time im the saga of the rich fuel trims my car has been getting. I'm swapping the fuel injection rail completely out for a 2nd hand one to see if in two weeks of running the trims improve or not!

    Great video fella. Just discovered your channel and I really like it. No nonsense advice and tutorials in the real world...driveway maintenance. 👍. Subbed. (Fellow tinkerer...Volvo 66 (DAF) Variomatic from 1977)

      @@usuallyfixingtinkering ..Yes, that's correct. The Van Doorne brothers in Holland invented it and introduced it in 1958, producing the little DAF cars. Later bought out by Volvo in 1975.

    This is a great video! Would the process be very different with a 1.8 diesel? If not, then I wish I hadn't got rid of my mk1 1.8 TDCi. I was told that the injectors needed replacing by a garage and they said it would cost £000's , more than the cars worth, so i had to sell it as spares or repair :( . Don't you have to 'programme' injectors or are they direct replacements?
    Also, massive respect for the cleanliness of your engine bay, looks mint

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks buddy :) It's a completely different process on the diesels so I can't really say too much as I don't know tbh. But it makes sense what you say as the injectors are eaten for breakfast by the TDCI lump and are not cheap!

    Hi Andrew!
    Do you happen to know if the injector/fuel rail/regulator-assemblies are interchangeable between the 1.4 & 1.6's? It kind of seems like they are. The engine bays look literally identical. Looms, hoses and everything. Some entries on Ebay say the injectors fit both.

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are completely identical. Same parts numbers so are interchangeable as far as I know!

    hey buddy, thanks for the video. Dunno if you made one already, but my power steering fluid started to go down and now sits at minimum level, before I pour more in, I wanted to check if there's a power steering switch that is leaking, but can't locate the damn thing lol on the power steering pump, so could you please have a look that there's actually one and thank you (we have the same engine, mine is left hand drive)

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  ปีที่แล้ว

      you will have a power steering switch and they can leak, it's attached to the pump itself so should be very obvious that it's coming from there!

    Hello! I want to remove the fuel injection rail in order to remove and clean the intake manifold and I was wondering if removing the injectors does reset them in some way, or if the ECU knows I removed the injectors and will act weird. This is what i've heard from other people and I'm not sure if removing the injectors will cause some software problems.

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It does nothing of a sort whatever you've been told is wrong! It won't reset them at all :)

    Hi! We have an issue with our focus 2002, same engine as above. Maybe someone here has a clue. We get a cilinder 3 misfire. Changed the bobine and spark plugs and they all spark good. We changed out injector 3 and 2 and it didn’t change. Also we took the valve cover off and everything seems fine. Does anyone here have a clue what to check next?

    • @maudvanhasselt999
      @maudvanhasselt999 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We have also checked al coils and wires and they have the same risitance (ohms)

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Have you checked the core plugs are not leaking coolant into the cylinders to rule that out? Is the coil pack the original?

    • @maudvanhasselt999
      @maudvanhasselt999 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for your reaction! The coil pack is the Bosch one we’ve seen in your video’s. The cilinders look dry and I’m pretty sure there is no coolant leak into the cilinders. Any other ideas?
      And one other question, the sensor in the valve cover, what is it for and how do we take the plug off. We’ve been checking your videos, there awesome and really helpful. But we couldn’t find one where you take of the valve cover and the sensor.

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      that the cylinder head temperature sensor and could cause some bad running but never a misfire, I have done that job before called "jasabella needs work part 1". It's difficult to figure what that could be since you've elminated the usual culprits. Sadly one of them is ECU's going wrong but the car would be worse that just a misfire in this case.
