  • Tried out my new Sunnex Bristle Blaster / Surface Blaster to strip undercoat. Works well. Got all of the undercoating stripped from the rear wheel well, but sadly round more rust in exactly the same pattern as left side. Got some of the rust cut out, and getting ready to make a patch panel.

Andy, I had similar seam rust, although not in the exact same areas. Lap seams are always susceptible and if there is a little gap for moisture to penetrate, it works into a larger area. It is interesting that they sealed the edge of the lap before spot welding.

Yes, the lap welds are really interesting, the seams were coated with some sort of sealer before spot welding . I noticed that on the rear wheel tubs .
On the rear wheel tub repairs I did, I sprayed the seams with weld though primer before welding . I’m going to clean both sides after welding and paint with Mastercoat. I think I’ve figured out how to get to the back side or all the repairs I have to do , and I’ll make sure it’s properly coated and sealed .
I’ll also clean the outside , and paint with thinned Mastercoat , then seal sealer and finally UPOL chip guard .
