Simon - You are a f**king Legend! Your honesty and strength in being so open, so vulnerable, in a bringing to light a condition that is so rarely discussed, especially from a male experience, that had me in tears. Thank you for sharing. I hope the experience gave you an opportunity to reflect on your progress and acknowledge how far you have come, from that moment until now. For me, Stabbing Westward's eponymously titled forth album is one giant tear-jerker. Songs of love lost and regret that cut very close to the bone.
When September ends by Green Day. I lost my father at 16. The song says 20 yrs has gone so fast and this is so true. Then I lost my husband and now my kids have to live this song.
Luther Vandross - Dance With My Father always touches me just hearing how much he loved his dad and you can hear it in his vocals as he sings it with such passion. There are many odes to moms in the world but Richard Marx as one of the co-writers of that song along with Luther truly captured the essence of the father-son relationship and the impact that has in a son growing up and turning into a man and then describing the feeling of losing a father and wanting that chance to be with them one more time. It hits me every time I hear it how much relationships like that shouldn’t be taken for granted and honestly even writing this makes me tear cause my dad is still here but he is getting older and I have to come to the realization that someday he may not be here and that is a day i don’t think I’ll even be remotely prepared for.
David Bowie's Lazarus. The man knew he was going out, and managed to stick around long enough to make one more thing, and it ended up being a heartfelt goodbye to all his fans and a reflection on the passage of time. What a baller/touching move.
I knew when I clicked this video I'd cry I just didn't know what'd it be that would hit me... Simon my whole heart goes out to you ❤ That is definitely a topic that needs more attention. I always love seeing your chatty responses, you're my favorite! All the love to you and George, and to everyone in the whatculture team.
This was originally sung by Nine Inch Nails but Johnny Cash’s version was more famous with it than NIN. Watching Johnny sing it definitely causes me to cry especially since he recorded it not long before he passed away.
Jordan Frost , I was gonna put this too- gets me every time! You can just hear the pain & world weariness in every word... like many I believe he knew his time was coming when he sang this. I remember at the time Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails who wrote & sang the song originally saw the video and (now famously) said the song wasn't his anymore- I love this song & I just blub every time!
The one song that brings me to tears EVERY time is ‘Under Pressure’. First the message of the song, then the passing of Freddie Mercury, then the passing of David Bowie. I’m shocked by all the songs I love by voices forever silenced .
I Who Have Nothing (Shirley Bassey), Time Stood Still & This Used to Be My Playground (Madonna), Where Do Broken Hearts Go (Whitney Houston), Confessions of a Broken Heart (Limdsay Lohan), Yesterday (The Beatles), In the End (Linkin Park), Sound the Bugle (Bryan Adams), This Woman's Work (Kate Bush), Illegal (Shakira), Brave (Jennifer Lopez), Un-Break My Heart (Toni Braxton), Jesus to a Child (George Michael)
Hate me -Blue October One more light - Linkin Park Luka - Suzanne Vega (Didn’t think I could adore Simon anymore, then I watched this and George is just as gorgeous xx 😚)
*song which I think are sad:* • 9 inch nails hurt is sad. and Johnny Cash's rendition of it • beautiful and mocking bird by eminem • the scientist by coldplay and tears in heaven by Eric Clapton • one Sweet Day by Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey. • everybody hurts by R.E.M
I just lost my sister and in thinking about her life and how much she meant to me, wondering what songs would touch the heart and trying to find songs that can encompass how she made a difference in people's lives in her 39 years, and how my families life will never be the same without her presence with only a glimmer of a memory that I can only hope will bring a smile for that special memory now entwined in our hearts. Thank you, this was just in time!
My nomination is Elephant Gun by Beirut. I first came across it in prep for a wedding I was playing, they wanted it as the song played during the signing of the register. Firstly, it is beautiful, from the sad ukulele riff, to the trumpet motif, to the vocal melodies with lyrics that are both meaningless and profound. When doing further reading on this song, the director of the music video said this “That sound is how I feel when I’m honest about my life, that juxtaposition of melancholy and loneliness with the absolute enjoyment and happiness of being alive." That last bit gets me. “The enjoyment and happiness of being alive”. As a depressed man with suicidal tendencies (I’m fine now, don’t worry), this really hits me. Because I realise that life is wonderful and beautiful, being alive can be amazing, but for all the times I think this I also know how much I’ve wanted it taken away from me. And this all comes flooding back to me every time I hear this song It’s wonderful, I want it at my funeral.
Awww George is so adorable! He reminds me of my grandson and he lives far from me but I was at least able to have him and my daughter with me for at least a year or so. He will be 3 years old in November and my daughter sends me pictures of him regularly and he is my heart! I love all the songs that you spoke about and I listened to some I had never heard before and had to stop them because I started crying.
Teddy Bear by Red Sovine is an old country song that I've rarely seen someone hear for the first time without tearing up. Things my Father Said by Black Stone Cherry for anyone who has lost their old man. Really does get me every time. Kudos to you Simon. Glad it's all turned out well for you bud 👍
'Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely' by Backstreet Boys. Always gets me! Because it always reminds me of my best friend that passed away a few years back. In some kind of ironic twist, it was one of her favourite songs as well & just listening to it, reminds me of her. It's definitely one of those emotional attachment for me. But now I use it as my coping mechanism in times when I miss her, and it's definitely healing for me when I listen to it.
When I saw The Pretenders open up for Stevie Nicks, and they went into I'll Stand By You. Chrissie Hynde is a Goddess. Whenever Sevendust performs Angel's Son live. Most of the time the whole crowd sings along and you can feel the energy an emotion.
'Stop crying your heart out' by Oasis - was played on the BBC montage after England went out of the World Cup thanks to Ronaldinho's free kick lob 'Bridge over Troubled Water' by Simon & Garfunkel - was played at my childhood friend's funeral whilst i carried her casket
cats in the cradle always makes me cry, Hate me by Blue October also makes me cry, pretty much anything sung by Andrea Bocelli , his voice is so beautiful! so powerful
The song for me, one that I came across in my early teens is Alone Again Naturally by Gilbert O'Sullivan and has possibly the greatest and most heart rending set of lyrics in any song. The third verse is the one that always gets me and the lyrics are as follows: Looking back over the years And whatever else that appears I remember I cried when my father died Never wishing to hide the tears And at sixty-five years old My mother, God rest her soul Couldn't understand why the only man She had ever loved had been taken Leaving her to start with a heart so badly broken Despite encouragement from me No words were ever spoken And when she passed away I cried and cried all day Alone again, naturally This single verse pulverised me at the time and does to this day and if you have never heard the song, do yourself a huge favour and go check it out
Simon deserves respect for talking about male post-natal depression, not enough people know it exists and underestimate its devastating effects. George is a radiant kid and the very clear love Simon shows for him in that glance and smile is really heartwarming
As far as songs that fit this video go, that will always be "Numb" by Linkin Park for me. I got into the band in my college years ('05 to '07) and "Numb" always resonated with me because, at the time, I was a hard core Christian who was starting to realize that he was falling out of love with the faith and who was also struggling to maintain decent grades (and always had, at least since the huge move 800 miles from home when I was only 8) because it finally articulated what I'd been feeling for the past ten years. I always think of my dad in particular when it comes to that song because was the one I always butted heads with and that always made me feel inadequate. I love my dad and we get along great now but I just never felt like I belonged in that school and I never felt like I was good enough for my dad, so...yeah. The song still breaks me every time I hear it. I also have to add "You are My Sunshine". My grandma sang that song to my siblings, cousins and I frequently growing up, especially when she'd wake us up in the mornings. She spent her last years in a hospital bed with dementia and I had a hard time visiting her because it was so hard to reconcile the woman in that bed with the one I grew up with. I bitterly regret that now since she passed away February of last year and hearing that simple children's song instantly breaks me down and I can't properly function until it finishes or otherwise stops playing.
“Happy Days” by Blink-182. It was when I was fresh off of Graduating. I’ve been looking for a job for like half a year and the song goes “Hey, Kid. Don’t quit your daydream yet” & the chorus goes “I wanna feel Happy Days”. And i would break. I know “NINE” is divisive but that song got me.
I didn't see the title of it since I just clicked instantly, and knew quickly its about crying just from the opening music, it goes really well with this episode
before adam started speaking, i thought of two songs..both by roberta flack...'killing me softly with his song' and 'the first time ever i saw your face'...and then he goes and mentions the second one..well done mate...a third contender is dolly parton's original version of 'i will always love you'...forget whitney's screeching..listen to the song the way it was meant to be sung and it will break your heart....peace...
I've heard "The Rose" often lately. It always gets to me. But the line "Its a soul, afraid of dying, that never learns to live." has a huge impact, especially in these days of isolation and fear.
The four that I find the most sad and make me cry the most are: Another Day in Paradise by Phil Collins - I find the content of what the song is about to be very sad and upsetting (especially when there are still so many people that are homeless all across the globe in 2020). Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now) by Phil Collins - because there's been times when past relationships have broken down, and weren't working anymore (despite some resemblance of love for the other person, still being there). Bye Bye by Mariah Carey - the song references the loved ones people can lose and throughout the verses is a dialogue between Carey and her deceased father. Like her I also lost my father (which is probably why this song hits me as hard as it does). Two Out of Three Ain't Bad by Meat Loaf - This was my late father's favourite song. He died of prostate cancer in 2007 (and was in a hospice, at the time). This song is one of a number of things, that remind me of the times we spent together (and the wonderful man he was).
My Grandad with whom I was really close died quite suddenly last year, two days later I heard Wishing Wells by Parkway Drive for the first time. That song tore me somewhere deep down. I have never heard a song before or since that describes exactly the devastation of grief to the letter.
One that absolutely rips me up is Little Ray Of Sunshine by Axiom. It was the first song I heard after the birth of my daughter, and it always, ALWAYS brings back the same flood of emotions
My immortal - Evanescence Watch over you - Alter Bridge Snuff - Slipknot Whiskey Lullaby - Brad Paisley and Allison Krauss Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead Against the Wall - Seether Hate Me - Blue October Black - Pearl Jam
Back when pop-up video was a thing, I was watching the music video for rise above this by seether and one of the pop-ups said it's about shaun morgan's brother who committed suicide. Since then, every time I hear it, I cry
Tears in heaven and hurt have been mentioned a lot. Completely understand why. Jeff Buckley, hallelujah and Don’t think twice by Bob Dylan/ Or the Peter Paul and Mary version get me every time.
I’m not the biggest country music fan but Rainbow by Kacey Musgraves absolutely wrecks me every single time. “If you could see what I see, you’d be blinded by the colors.” Jesus what a beautiful line.
The song that’s makes me cry is called “ Fancy” by Reba McEntire. When I first saw the music video, it made a tear come down from my eyes. That’s how much it effect me. It touched me in my heart.
Numb by Linkin Park. After Chesters death. After learning that he was basically pouring HIS OWN HEART out in the song. Not just words on a notepad. Thanks for the video guys Be safe and stay blessed team WhatCulture 🙏
I rarely cry, but these are definitely songs that have left a lump in my throat at least a few times. Sixx AM - Scars. Something about the pained singing and the story told is pretty powerful. Disturbed - The Light. A song about reflecting and finding the light hidden in our darkest moments. Better than Ezra - A lifetime. A song about a girl who dies in a car crash on graduation day and her friends steal the urn from the funeral, drive it to the beach and spend the night singing and reminiscing. Avenged Sevenfold - So Far Away. The song was written to cope with the death of one of their band mates (drummer "The Rev"), but it can really be applied to anyone. It's the ending that gets me. Volbeat - Fallen. Front man Michael Poulsen wrote the song for his late father who he worshiped to cope with his death. He's dedicated several songs to him.
Amazing job, Simon, for bringing attention to post-natal depression - my mum suffered with it too so I know how debilitating it can be. Wishing you all the best! Overall, a great video guys! The songs that always get me are Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven and Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story? from Hamilton.
Saw her sing this live in a club in Houston over 10 years ago. The whole room shut up and you could hear a pin drop when she hit that last note. "Keeping me..... Doooown" 💔
Giant ups to Simon from 1 dad to another. For me: Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day. It came out in '05 when I was getting ready to rotate home from Iraq in September & things were getting worse. Then I got home & saw the video & it was about a young Marine on deployment. Also, Never Be One again by Alabama. I don't listen to country but my parents had this album when I was a kid, & I hear it now as a dad & think of when my kids were that little.
My mother died when I was 13 in a sudden accident one day. Years later I hear the song If I Get High by Nothing but Thieves and saw the video depicting what was Connor Mason’s life growing up after his mother had also died when he was 13. It hits home for sure
Two songs that kill me each and everytime The Reason by Hoobastank Hurt the Johnny Cash version. My grandfather died when I was 15 and he was the closest thing I had to a father. And those two songs were played at his funeral. The Reason being one of his favorite songs and Johnny Cash was his favorite singer and Hurt encompased how he felt in his later life and the mistakes he made in his life.
As soon as I read the title, I thought of Alter Bridge's "In Loving Memory". That song just breaks me. By the time the second verse comes in, I'm already in tears
Thomas Newman - Any Other Name. It plays at the end of the movie American Beauty. American Beauty is the only movie that has ever made me cry and it’s a combination of the sad ending and this gorgeous song. I always listen to this song when I’ve had a rough day just so I can allow myself to be sad and reflective.
Anyone else here who was around forty years ago have the same reaction I did to hearing "In My Life"? For some reason, that (and to a lesser extent "I'll Be Back") hit me a lot harder than the tributes that played "Imagine", "Give Peace a Chance" and "(Just Like) Starting Over" until the grooves wore down.
The song that makes me cry every time I hear it is "Wicked Little Town" from "Hedwig and the Angry." It always take me back to the first time I heard while watching the movie before I came out and transitioned. Whether it is in the movie or the Original Cast Recording or the Neil Patrick Harris version. Hell, a few years ago I saw a live performance and I broke into tears there.
Sam Cooke - A Change Is Going To Come. The orchestral arrangement along with Sam's pain in his voice topped of with the lyrics of the song. The fact that this song written in the 1964 is still relevant now in 2020 just adds to it.
1 Altar Bridge In Loving Memory 2 Declan o Rourke didnt mean to go to sea 3 Cat Powers cover Sea of Love 4 Married Life from Up 5 17 Sharon Van Etten 6 in my mind by AMANDA Palmer from Life is Strange game 7 Remembering Sunday by All Time Low 8 if it means a lot to you by A Day to Remember 9 The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack and my personal one to make it a even 10 Eternity by Disciple. This might not work for people who don't believe in a afterlife/Heaven but for me as a Christian this song brings me to tears every time.
It may sound a little strange but Piano Man by Billy Joel, it was my Dad's favorite, lost him 21 years ago and the song can still make me tear up, not as much as when he first died. When I first lost him just hearing the opening cords could turn me into a puddle. Miss you Dad.
Johny Cash - Hurt Pink Floyd - I wish you where here Music from the Dead Island trailer. Staind - So far Away. Streets - Dry Your Eyes. Fort Minor - Where'd You Go Andres Haze - Kleine Jongen (Dutch song about a father telling his kid on how fast they grow up and tell him life lesson) Steff Bos - Pappa (Dutch song about the singer telling about his simularity of him and his dad)
4 Songs that I can speak to. 1. "The Best Is Yet To Come" from Metal Gear Solid. Despite the fact that in 1998 it was in Gaelic, I could still somewhat follow the lyrics since they were printed in the liner notes. The English version destroys me just about every time. 2. Those Were The Days - Mary Hopkin. I was part of a pair theatre shows from 2005 to 2015, they became a major part of my life. While there were many songs from the shows that I still enjoy to this day, "Those Were The Days" hits me just me as it speaks to the friendships that I gained and the loss I feel that I'm not doing the show anymore. 3. Into The West - Annie Lennox. While I know this is kind of an obvious choice it still hits me as my wife passed away recently and we had just finished watching the Lord Of The Rings trilogy mere months before. Most of the song is fine until she sings "...You And I Will Meet Again." Gets me every time. 4. The Dawn Will Come - Trevor Morris. Related to the above entry, while my wife was battling cancer I would use this song as a beacon of hope. Still gets me almost every time. Thank you Whatculture team for sharing your stories.
Lupe Fiasco - He Say She Say (My father wasn't there. I'm not able to be there more for my son.) Brad Paisley - Whiskey Lullaby ft. Alison Krauss (First time I heard this song I was in the Army, in Iraq. My buddy died in combat and my girl back home broke up with via a dear john letter.) Chris Cornell - "Nothing Compares 2 U" ( First time I heard this was after my buddy who I served with in The Army died. It was also after Chris Cornell had passed. My buddy and myself were big fans of Chris Cornell.) The Lone Bellow - You Never Need Nobody (For all those relationships I couldn't have, cause she didn't feel the same or couldn't maintain for whatever reason) Lauryn Hill - Ex-Factor ( I was in the eight grade so I was like 12 or 13 years young. Had my first real girlfriend, as much as you can be girlfriend and boyfriend at that age. Anyway this song was playing in the background the first time I told her I loved her. We were holding hands I looked her in the eyes said don't say anything but I love you and kissed her. In that exact moment she had a heart attack. Turned out she was born with a undiagnosed heart condition. I'm currently 35 years old. I still tear up thinking about her when this song plays.)
God Went North by Nothing More is the biggest one for me that always jerks the tears out of me. The song was written about the lead singer losing his mother to cancer. It's such a hard hitting song. The part where he builds into screaming at the end I'll hold you til the end, I'll hold you til you're free causes immediate waterworks. It's just a beautiful song all around
The song that really gets me is Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler. My mom loved the movie “Beaches” and that song was in it. My mom would always sing it to me and I had promised I would sing it at her funeral but unfortunately she had to be cremated. I’m getting teared up right now just thinking about it. I love and miss you mom and know that I will see you again one day!! 😢
I got several songs. The first one is Ed Sheeran's Supermarket Flowers which I first discovered a few days after my mom passed. The second song is One More Light by Linkin Park. It always reminds me of my mom's passing. The third song is When I Get Where I'm Going by Brad Paisley. My mom loved this song and wanted it played at her memorial.
For me it's "Afire Love" by Ed Sheeran. A beautiful song from his 2nd album, about his grandparent's relationship, and his grandfather passing away. Both of my grandparents passed away within 9 months of eachother and even long before this, when the song first came out, it reminded me of my grandparents' relationship. Then someone played it at my grandmothers' funeral, 9 months after my grandfathers', and my sister and I broke down I absolutely adore that song with all my heart. But I cannot listen to it
There are 4 songs really made me cry. Weirdly, 3 of em are Avenged Sevenfold songs. So Far Away has obviously incredibly sad lyrics about the death of their drummer. The music and the video with all those memories with the Rev get me every time. The guitar solo in Afterlife makes me cry every time. It's just the way it's written and played. It's so good I cry. The "final act" in Exist has so much incredible musicianship, it made me cry. And finally, there's Halo of Fire by Metallica. They're my favourite band and I waited so long for their new album. When that song came on, the music in the last part when James sings "Hello darkness, say goodbye" is so well written. The whole lot of emotion just in the music and the fact that I was so happy to finally hear the new Metallica record made me cry tears of joy. Appart from So Far Away, I practically cry tears of joy when I listen to music, because it's so good.
Probably a cliche one but "Supermarket Flowers" by Ed Sheeran. Its not so much the song itself, more the fact that its a song about clearing a loved one's hospital room after they pass away. Taking down the flowers and the cards and packing their clothes away. It was released about 2 weeks after my dad passed away after a long battle with cancer and it just completely broke me. And like Simon said, some songs just imprint onto a memory and every time i hear it I just break down. Still have it on a playlist though. We all need a good cry every now and again
This song makes me cry in the sense that it makes me feel stronger, empowered and by proxy of that, makes me bawl like a scalded child. That song is She Used To Be Mine by Sara Bareilles. It means many things to many different people but when I’m down and feeling like I’m not good enough I put this on and it gives me the release I’m after but also the boost I need to keep on keeping on.
In Loving Memory - Alter Bridge always gets me too. A few others (but not all) that turn me into an emotional wreck: Alibi - Thirty Seconds to Mars Blackbird - Alter Bridge God Went North - Nothing More Hard to Say - The Used Blue & Yellow - The Used XIX - Slipknot The Light Behind Your Eyes - My Chemical Romance A Different Kind of Pain - Cold Over & Over - Three Days Grace Black - Pearl Jam My Immortal - Evanescence They don't all make me cry, but there's plenty others. I'm just an emotional wreck, heh.
The Light Behind Your Eyes by My Chemical Romance Hear Without You by 3 Doors Down 2 songs I always put on when I need to let it all out. One I didn't expect was Fix you by Coldplay. I didn't really think to much of the song at first, but when I found out that Chris Martin wrote it for Gwyneth Paltrow after her father died it gave the song a completely new meaning. Now I love it and it always gives me the feels.
Simon, thank you. We never understand when a man becomes a parent things are not always "rosey" right away. I was a same. But for me, the one song that I have no answer why, that makes me cry is Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home"
I actually have three songs that I now very rarely listen to. Bright Eyes from the film Watership Down, for obvious reasons. I first saw the film as a kid and it made me cry and can't listen to Bright Eyes now. Second song is Dear Friends by Queen, because I had the album playing and my mmMum phoned up while Dear Friends was playing to tell me our dog had died. Third one is Keep on Loving You by REO Speedwagon as it reminds me of my first real love and a bad break up :(
When I was in college and I was too overwhelmed and stressed, I would give myself the duration of Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" to stress cry before I got back to work. Apparently, I did it so much that I developed a pavlovian response to the song because it randomly played last week and I immediately started crying. Still a great stress management strategy though, 12/10 would recommend.
Into Dust by Mazzy Star.... really hits me hard. When the Tigers Broke Free. By Pink Floyd always get me teary especially on remeberence Sunday. Ordinary World by Duran Duran. Robin Hood by ocean colour scene.
I listened to Pavarotti - Nessun Dorma again today after not hearing it for a while. Not many songs can make both the hairs on your neck stand up and make you cry simultaneously 😭
So proud of Simon for talking about something that is rarely spoke about. Hats off to him ❤
What an amazing man for being able to share. Simon you’re a hero.
I was about to say the same thing. I dealt with it and luckily I got better but I appreciate him talking about it
The fact that Simon's section went from brutally honest to ending on such a sweet moment was my favourite part of the video (no offence to the others)
@Edmund Graham George best part of video (& Simon's face looking at him)
Simon - You are a f**king Legend!
Simon (and George) have won the internet for me today. Thank you for sharing.
I had forgotten this song, possibly intentionally as I cry every time I hear it.
Hurt by Johnny Cash will make any grown man cry or at least feel something
Woman also. June's face omg
Jordan, you have great taste. "Hurt" makes me cry too, especially when I watch the video I think it's the greatest cover in musical history.
Absolutely. Alot of time if I want a good cry. I'll find this song.
The unplugged version of Black by Pearl Jam, that "We belong together" that Eddie screams near the end always destroys me inside
For me it's their song Future Days
“When you're happy, you enjoy the music but when you're sad, you undestand the lyrics.”
Frank Ocean
I'm proud of Simon for talking about something most people don't talk about
Aw man. Mad love and respect for Simon and little George.
How To Save a Life by The Fray gets me going because it will forever be associated with the Scrubs episode, My Lunch.
Wish you were Here - Pink Floyd every bloody time
Yep :-(
@@hkbabel For sure... High Hopes is another big one :'(
@@919748420 Yeah, High Hopes is second to Comfortably Numb in my book for that sense of loss.
Pink Floyd is the f****** best
The great gig in the sky for me
Hate me -Blue October
One more light - Linkin Park
Luka - Suzanne Vega
(Didn’t think I could adore Simon anymore, then I watched this and George is just as gorgeous xx 😚)
*song which I think are sad:*
• 9 inch nails hurt is sad. and Johnny Cash's rendition of it
• beautiful and mocking bird by eminem
• the scientist by coldplay and tears in heaven by Eric Clapton
• one Sweet Day by Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey.
Having suffered with ppd I relate to Simon Gallagher so much. Thank you so much for sharing your experience..
When doing further reading on this song, the director of the music video said this
“That sound is how I feel when I’m honest about my life, that juxtaposition of melancholy and loneliness with the absolute enjoyment and happiness of being alive."
That last bit gets me.
And this all comes flooding back to me every time I hear this song
It’s wonderful, I want it at my funeral.
Hello, George! It was lovely to see you and your Dad loves you so very much, young Man!
Who Wants To Live Forever by Queen wrenches my heart out every time I hear it
Teddy Bear by Red Sovine is an old country song that I've rarely seen someone hear for the first time without tearing up.
'Stop crying your heart out' by Oasis - was played on the BBC montage after England went out of the World Cup thanks to Ronaldinho's free kick lob
'Bridge over Troubled Water' by Simon & Garfunkel - was played at my childhood friend's funeral whilst i carried her casket
This video has made me cry with everyone’s personal stories about the song that made them cry
Didn't expect Simon to make me cry, but the darn it he did. So much respect to you.
As someone who has just gone through Post Natal Depression, I’m so proud of Simon for talking about something that is so taboo
"What A Wonderful World" Louis Armstrong
cats in the cradle always makes me cry, Hate me by Blue October also makes me cry, pretty much anything sung by Andrea Bocelli , his voice is so beautiful! so powerful
The song for me, one that I came across in my early teens is Alone Again Naturally by Gilbert O'Sullivan and has possibly the greatest and most heart rending set of lyrics in any song. The third verse is the one that always gets me and the lyrics are as follows:
Looking back over the years
And whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
And at sixty-five years old
My mother, God rest her soul
Couldn't understand why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start with a heart so badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever spoken
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally
This single verse pulverised me at the time and does to this day and if you have never heard the song, do yourself a huge favour and go check it out
Simon deserves respect for talking about male post-natal depression, not enough people know it exists and underestimate its devastating effects.
Nothing compares 2 U but the Sinead O'Connor version, just absolutely guts me especially paired with the music video
This was very real. Thank you lot for being so honest and open.
Mac Miller - Good News
M83 - Outro
Good news is a amazing song on an incredible album rip to mac
"Yesterday" by the beatles
The four that I find the most sad and make me cry the most are:
Another Day in Paradise
by Phil Collins - I find the content of what the song is about to be very sad and upsetting (especially when there are still so many people that are homeless all across the globe in 2020).
My immortal - Evanescence
Watch over you - Alter Bridge
Snuff - Slipknot
Whiskey Lullaby - Brad Paisley and Allison Krauss
Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead
Against the Wall - Seether
Hate Me - Blue October
Black - Pearl Jam
Jeff Hinson Hate me by Blue October breaks me every time xx
Oooh you have good taste
@@rc0057 thanks
Back when pop-up video was a thing, I was watching the music video for rise above this by seether and one of the pop-ups said it's about shaun morgan's brother who committed suicide. Since then, every time I hear it, I cry
@@belzorahollow3888 that's such an amazing song
Tears in heaven and hurt have been mentioned a lot. Completely understand why. Jeff Buckley, hallelujah and Don’t think twice by Bob Dylan/ Or the Peter Paul and Mary version get me every time.
Heaven for Everyone, these are the days of our lives
I’m not the biggest country music fan but Rainbow by Kacey Musgraves absolutely wrecks me every single time. “If you could see what I see, you’d be blinded by the colors.” Jesus what a beautiful line.
Illusion by VNV Nation. Every show I've ever been to this song made the entire crowd emotional. Including myself.
"Edge of Glory" by Lady Gaga. It's about her watching her grandparents when one was dying. It's like real love til death do they part.
I always thought that it was about an orgasm
I saw her live a few years ago and I swear to you I have never cried like I cried when she performed this solo at the piano - it was otherworldly.
Hurt- Johnny Cash
Tears in Heaven- Eric Clapton
Hallelujah- Jeff Buckley
The song that’s makes me cry is called “ Fancy” by Reba McEntire. When I first saw the music video, it made a tear come down from my eyes. That’s how much it effect me. It touched me in my heart.
Numb by Linkin Park.
After Chesters death.
After learning that he was basically pouring HIS OWN HEART out in the song.
Not just words on a notepad.
Thanks for the video guys
Be safe and stay blessed team WhatCulture 🙏
Sara Bareilles’ song “Gravity” makes me cry because it’s such a beautiful song
Saw her sing this live in a club in Houston over 10 years ago.
The whole room shut up and you could hear a pin drop when she hit that last note. "Keeping me..... Doooown"
💔
Kenneth Webb What an amazing artist.
Have you heard “Sweet as Whole” by her?
Absolutely genius song. Also, don’t play around the kids.
The living years by Mike and the mechanics
My mother died when I was 13 in a sudden accident one day. Years later I hear the song If I Get High by Nothing but Thieves and saw the video depicting what was Connor Mason’s life growing up after his mother had also died when he was 13. It hits home for sure
Two songs that kill me each and everytime
The Reason by Hoobastank
Hurt the Johnny Cash version.
Pictures of you - the cure Adore the song just amazing ❤️
Sam Cooke - A Change Is Going To Come. The orchestral arrangement along with Sam's pain in his voice topped of with the lyrics of the song. The fact that this song written in the 1964 is still relevant now in 2020 just adds to it.
I love Clery, he’s just wonderful in these videos
1 Altar Bridge In Loving Memory
2 Declan o Rourke didnt mean to go to sea
3 Cat Powers cover Sea of Love
4 Married Life from Up
5 17 Sharon Van Etten
6 in my mind by AMANDA Palmer from Life is Strange game
7 Remembering Sunday by All Time Low
8 if it means a lot to you by A Day to Remember
9 The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack
and my personal one to make it a even 10 Eternity by Disciple. This might not work for people who don't believe in a afterlife/Heaven but for me as a Christian this song brings me to tears every time.
3 is “Sea of Love”
@@Sarah-hc6kj tHX for the correction I'll fix it. Some of the British accents are hard for me to understand and the close captions said seed of love.
It may sound a little strange but Piano Man by Billy Joel, it was my Dad's favorite, lost him 21 years ago and the song can still make me tear up, not as much as when he first died. When I first lost him just hearing the opening cords could turn me into a puddle. Miss you Dad.
Here Until Forever by In Flames. It's not necessarily sad, but a touching ode to the lead singer son. Such a moving song
Johny Cash - Hurt
Pink Floyd - I wish you where here
Music from the Dead Island trailer.
Staind - So far Away.
Streets - Dry Your Eyes.
Fort Minor - Where'd You Go
Andres Haze - Kleine Jongen (Dutch song about a father telling his kid on how fast they grow up and tell him life lesson)
Steff Bos - Pappa (Dutch song about the singer telling about his simularity of him and his dad)
Another one I just thought of - Bats in the Attic by King Creosote and Jon Hopkins. Just sublime.
I'm not able to be there more for my son.)
Brad Paisley - Whiskey Lullaby ft. Alison Krauss (First time I heard this song I was in the Army, in Iraq. My buddy died in combat and my girl back home broke up with via a dear john letter.)
Chris Cornell - "Nothing Compares 2 U" ( First time I heard this was after my buddy who I served with in The Army died. It was also after Chris Cornell had passed. My buddy and myself were big fans of Chris Cornell.)
The Lone Bellow - You Never Need Nobody (For all those relationships I couldn't have, cause she didn't feel the same or couldn't maintain for whatever reason)
Lauryn Hill - Ex-Factor ( I was in the eight grade so I was like 12 or 13 years young.
Then someone played it at my grandmothers' funeral, 9 months after my grandfathers', and my sister and I broke down
I absolutely adore that song with all my heart. But I cannot listen to it
The Story Of My Life by Michael Crawford. A beautiful song that we played at my nan's funeral.
A few others (but not all) that turn me into an emotional wreck:
Alibi - Thirty Seconds to Mars
Blackbird - Alter Bridge
God Went North - Nothing More
Hard to Say - The Used
Blue & Yellow - The Used
XIX - Slipknot
The Light Behind Your Eyes - My Chemical Romance
A Different Kind of Pain - Cold
Over & Over - Three Days Grace
Black - Pearl Jam
My Immortal - Evanescence
They don't all make me cry, but there's plenty others. I'm just an emotional wreck, heh.
The Lighthouse Song by Nickel Creek. It’s a beautiful song but I just cry so much every time
Mahalia Jackson "Troubles of the World" and track #4 from Sigur Ros () album are the first two songs that come to my mind.
The Light Behind Your Eyes by My Chemical Romance
Hear Without You by 3 Doors Down
2 songs I always put on when I need to let it all out.
Beautiful video guys. Much love
Third one is Keep on Loving You by REO Speedwagon as it reminds me of my first real love and a bad break up :(
Totally agree with Johnny Cash 'Hurt', but since that's been taken- Bon Jovi's ''(it's hard) letting you go'' always gets me emotional
Didn’t know the video was gonna’ make me cry! Love Simon.
Gone with the Wind- Architects gets me every single time
Two of them for me are Heartbreak Station by Cinderella. Who'd You Be Today by Kenny Chesney
I listened to Pavarotti - Nessun Dorma again today after not hearing it for a while. Not many songs can make both the hairs on your neck stand up and make you cry simultaneously 😭
When She Loved Me - Sarah McLachlan (Toy Story 2)
