Bad Luck Causes Big Losses - Truck Camping in Colder Weather.

The black cloud continues to hang around. Even before my trip to Germany, bad luck has been my constant companion. Unfortunately, I don't make a lot of money, and I have found myself going deep into the hole the last few months. First, it was the ER visit in Germany that insurance won't cover. Then, finding out the truck needs the front-end rebuilt, and this week, I broke 1500 dollars in camera equipment. Sometimes, I just want to throw up my hands and walk away.
I'm still trying to recover from the 3-week vacation that TH-cam is punishing me for. After not posting consistently, I have been put in TH-cam jail. My views and impressions are tanking. In the last 3 weeks, my videos have consistently ranked 10 out of 10, and my numbers are comparable to a year ago.
The channel was never about making money. But the channel wasn't supposed to drain my bank account. Sorry for venting......See you next week.

Hey Kenny. My wife & I enjoy your videos. Love your commentary & positive attitude. The locations you visit are awesome! We are driving up to northern MN in 2 weeks for a van camping adventure. We bought a 2012 Chevy Express cargo van a few years ago & turned it into a tent on wheels. I just spent three weeks in Colorado Elk Hunting. I took my Palomino 1251. Owned it for two years and it's the first time it's been out of the garage. I found a spot to set up and across the dirt road from me moved in a huge hunting camp complete with barking dog (all day and nite) and a screaming infant that I guess the dog would wake up every night between 1-3AM. WHO goes to a hunting camp in the middle of nowhere with a unruly dog and an infant. Ohh yea AND they ran a generator every night - all night. You got lucky.

I stumbled onto your channel somehow a month or so ago and I've almost watched them all! I live in a truck camper full time, but don't get out too much, so it's nice to go with you on all these trips no matter where you end up. Always beautiful locations and super relaxing to watch. Here is a few to show some appreciation, I know what breaking stuff feels like.

I felt the same. I had satellite TV, Netflix, Hulu and Prime Video. I would also go to the moves a couple times a year. I paid a lot of money to support the Hollywierd community. Then about 6 years ago I decided to drop all of that. Now I just watch TH-cam. When I had the means, I belonged to a few Pateron Channels. My first subscription was to Taylor Dezman. I asked myself, why I am paying over 150 bucks a month to all the mainstream television providers when real people like Taylor were busting their butt to create content I could watch for free. So, since I was not paying for television anymore, I supported the small guys like Taylor.
Hi Kenny, good to see that despite any circumstance that come up your ways you always keep you spirit high and a good attitude. You weren't being negative when your neighbor dog came around. Now days people only care for them selves and are not considerate enough to show respect towards others privacy, the dog should have not made it to your camp site. I really enjoy watching your videos, I know one day I will be able to get out and do some of the stuff that you do but until then I will enjoy watching your videos along with a cup of coffee. We ended up missing out on that particular Camper BUT..... I was able to locate a Arctic Fox M-860. Ironically, It is the same model that Kenny happens to have, Just a little older. I left Maryland on a Friday night and was able to drive to Green Bay WI to go pick it up in a single weekend. We absolutely love it. We only wish that the bathroom was a tad bit bigger. Truck campers here on the east coast are pretty hard to find. We had our sights on only 3 different manufacturers. Either a Northern Lite, Bigfoot, or Arctic Fox. After a solid Year and a half..... We were finally able to find one.
We are NOT campgound people. We like our space and privacy. This is why both Kenny (Kenny of all trades) and Larry from (Work less enjoy life more). Both of them are prime examples of the style of camping that we would prefer. Good luck in the future with your health and the potential of joining the camping community. We ABSOLUTELY love it.

For what it's worth, I really like the footage up through the trees from the bike (while the drone was out of commission). Any time I hike, I end up with pictures like that. Going with the flow and observing the bad luck then still moving forward each time is a great example for us all. It's surprising how many people never learned that skill. Also, Thanks for not running the generator out of consideration for the tent folks. I'm going to speak for us all and say "We appreciate that consideration."
Gotta say... It felt kind of lonely. For me.... all the best times in my life were always with other like minded adventurers. Now it's like pulling teeth! Strong communities were always at the core of great times and great achievements! Maybe even find some Sasquatch friends? But BRING MORE FOOD! LOL

I'm really happy to hear you say that. My hope was that people would see I'm no different than them. I got crappy job, a mortgage, kids in the house( thankfully, they are older, 17 and 19), but I still find time to center myself on the weekends. If I can do this nearly every weekend for over two years I hope other recognize they can do it too. It's not just full-time TH-camrs that can live the outdoor adventure lifestyle.

ABSOLUTELY! I'm not built for heat either, although I was born in the South and lived there for 30 years. When I got off the plane in Minnesota in January weather I was FREE AT LAST!! You can't even IMAGINE how happy I was... and still am... about living in Minnesota (for almost 30 years now). It's a great State with great weather... except for August when it gets a bit hot. Camping (in any state) is hit or miss if you camp in regular camping spots. You may have neighbors there that you tried to get rid of by camping. That's why I always boondock (dispersed camping). I can always be ALONE that way.
Hey Kenny! I'm a big fan. Because of people like you my truck camper experience here in Alaska is much better. I am sporting a 2008 GMC with 290,000 miles - I have re-done essentially the entire front steering/suspension including the steering gear, idler, pitman, tie rods - wheel bearings - etc. etc. etc..... I found a seemingly too good to be true deal on steering parts on Amazon. They worked - so far. Nice and tight - saved BIG bucks. I enjoy making youtube content myself, and I am in struck by people like you that do such a nice job. I know how hard it is to film, keep batteries up, maintain devices, and then hours of trying to load content to the computer and edit. Working full time at my regular job and squeezing this in is a labor of love. I don't think I'll ever get paid for my TH-cam work - but it is fun when it all works out. And...NOT a ladies jacket! That's a man's mans jacket!

Just discovered you, That's a great video and a very beautiful place to camp. But I have a suggestion. Our words are powerful and we frame our life by the words that we speak, it's true, So I wanna suggest you quit saying that About bad luck because it looks like to me you're doing pretty good. And getting to camp all over minnesota sounds like an amazing thing to me. I live in Oregon. That's what I'm doing here right now. In my Astro Van conversion that my son got me. Thank you very much Tim. I appreciate the support for the channel. I use two different Drones. The DJI Mini 2 has been my go to Drone for 1.5 years. I've used it in 90% of the videos.
More recently, I purchased the DJI Mini 3 pro. It has a few intelligent features the Mini 2 does not have.
The back shelf was custom built from a grill rack I bought at Walmart. I used a piano hinge and ubolts to attach it to the ladder. I showed the build in a video a few years back. I'll link it for you. Skip to 17 minutes and 20 seconds in the video to see how I built the shelf.

Your recipe for ham & beans is so similar to what I make. I enjoy making beef or chicken vegetable soup. With fall fast approaching I love soups. When it rains sometimes it pours. Remember when you said it could be worst. lol well let me tell you my drone story. I have wanted a drone forever so I begin saving every way I could. I finally saved up enough to get one but was to scared to fly it because my reflexes aren't what they once was. I finally got the nerve up to fly it and was doing good and then suddenly it got a mind of it's own and took off and flew right into a tree and crushed it into a million little pieces. I think I will stick to filming at ground level.
I hear ya! I love those shots that get super close to branches and look like im going to crash into a tree. I don't actually love crashing though. This one was weird. I was flying just fine. I was about 50 feet above the lake flying at normal speed. All the sudden it said "Motor Overloaded return to home" I was around 300 feet away. Then the screen shifted as the drone tilted sideways. It wasn't a maneuver that the drone could actually do. Then the drone dropped out of the sky. It wasn't a controlled landing. It was a stright drop into 20 feet of water.

When I'm camping without my husband I totally camp near someone else. Just feels safer to me. When my husband is with we like to be isolated.

I was thinking about that too. I really like that I could have in in the back seat and still carry the bike and all my other equipment. People have mentioned strapping a kayak to the roof. I go through trees and think I'd tear it off the roof. I think the Oru would fit my needs.

While I am a total lover of cast iron Dutch ovens - my John-pressure cooker prepper system would love to take on that ham and bean medley and give you a run for its money - both in slow and low-cooking prepping the beans first - then deal with all the rest of the medley and slow cook on the campfire. Time to bring "dog" along - so that both of you can enjoy the ham and beans.

I grew up on this lake. My family camped there every summer for at least a month. I was only about 4 or 5 when we first started growing there and my wife and children celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary on that very peninsula.

You said that your body was built for Minnesota, not for heat. I'm 6'-2" and 270. I don't like our Texas heat, but I do like our winter weather compared to Minnesota! Wife and I love your videos and while you were gone, we watched several of your original videos. BTW, even without the drone, we're fans!

The zipper thing happened to me years ago. I almost pitched a good coat when a sales lady told me they had been doing that for years. As for the Kayak get a real one. Slide it in the back door. We got a rear entry RV just for that reason. Years ago, We were North bound, crossing the Big Mac, headed into the U.P. We had a full size Chevy. It weighed close to your truck. We had a boat on the roof. No problem. No wind. Coming back I was afraid we were going over the edge. We would not have been the first ones. If that had happened North bound, one of my cousins, would have gotten a free boat. I have not put anything on the roof since.

That's good info! I concerned because I'm always scraping branches on my roof. I bring the camper down super tight roads. I would hate to get a branch stuck under the roof mounted kayak and rip the roof.

Oh man that bean soup looks so amazing! So unfortunate to hear about the drone. When mine broke, I completely lost interest in making videos anymore. So weird that a relatively cheap piece of equipment would do that to me but oh well.
Also, wow. Your shots are just spectacular. Really hit it outta the park on this one. Only bout halfway done and I have to go run some errands (pizza and beer). Looking forward to seeing the rest.
