I've fixed up a couple places that after they were complete I believed it would have been less costly to knock them down and rebuild. I never took the time to pencil the alternatives out. In both instances it would have been difficult or impossible to get a permit to rebuild on the same footprint. Once because of side yard setbacks and once because the old cabin (fishing shack) was only 22 feet from the lake and regulations now require a 75' setback from the lake.

I had family members who raised their 2 girls on a large farm in a small 2 bedroom old house. Finally! So excited to see the continuation of this 'disaster'. Really love how the whole family is going to be involved! (Belle can bring coffee service to the woods?!) Looking forward to the progress.
This is gonna be one heck of a series to follow! My dad bought a cabin in this condition back in 1999 and spent eight years restoring it. It was so bad that you couldn't step on the floors in certain parts of it and one of the walls just fell into the yard when he leaned on it. It was a helluva job, but worth it! If you ever get a Discord server running I'll share some photos with you!
Good evening Dave. Those aluminum panels could be an asset maybe! I removed similar aluminum from the roof of an outside patio, they act like rain gutter and as you said, thick heavy panels. With just the look I had from the video it appears as though your panels are attached with a cupped channel pointing towards the building. So each panel could look like a 3" to 4" pipe cut in half with a lip/flange at 90degrees out from pipe. So if panels are flipped over so the flange is up and each panel is connected to the next flange and so on along. You'd end up with a stout aluminum roof that catches rain and throws it off at the low end. If indeed this is the panel I'm thinking it is you have the equivalent of a lot of porch roofing or free standing patio space as an outdoor kitchen. Could be a bonus instead of trash! How ever it works or does not work, I always come for your original music, as was once sung "it soothes my soul"! And what ever project you're doing this day!!!! Carry on and sending my best regards for an exceptional Merry Christmas and A Blessed New Year
I am here for it....I've been waiting for this for some time now. My husband and I bought a small retirement project farmhouse that I thought was in bad shape but this takes the cake. At least yours is in a more perfect location. This one is on a little country road and I don't do roads. I don't want the 2 cars that go by a day to be able to see me...I haven't lived in sight of a road for so long I just can't do it. We will build on back side of the 30 acres and use the house as a garage/ barn. Good luck to ya...I feel your pain. Remember, it's just work. And it's so quiet!
I totally understand! When we were looking for land, the requisite was to hike to the middle of the property and stop and listen carefully. If there was any vehicle noise, that tract was off the table!
I like what you’re doing burning all the stuff instead of sending it to a landfill the smell will go away and look at all you kept out of the landfill great job. I look forward to seeing a whole video and how it comes out at the end. thanks for sharing. I’m 73. I couldn’t do that now, but it’s nice to see what other people can still dofor now merry Christmas
I bought my property for $50 back in 2013… it too was a disaster. But lot alone is worth it. I watched your cabin videos to get a feel for what I want to replace the old place with. I been lucky to get some extra money from metal. Thanks for all you do Dave.
Love the old bay mug! I’m a Maryland native born and I love old bay. Crabs, chicken, corn all with old bay. I’m enjoying the old cabin renovation. Keep up the great work
Dave, you have the best attitude. Down to earth and easy does it. Your humor while renovating this property is your signature trademark. I enjoy all your video content.
I was waiting for you to start this house….i am here for all of it. You are the uncle / cousin that everyone has all ways doing some project. Can’t wait for the finished project. Have a great day. 😊

😂
Carry on and sending my best regards for an exceptional Merry Christmas and A Blessed New Year
I cannot express enough how excited I am for this series.
Stupidly excited! I’ve been waiting for you to get onto this project all year.
You don't do roads but you're fine with exposing your opinions to nameless millions on the internet. I don't trust a word you're saying, lady.
Cabin in the Woods will not be creepy when you finish with it ! Awesome woods and your new stove ! Looking forward to the renovations .
Oooooh, I've been waiting for this!! So enjoyable. As always, I love your relaxed, whimsical, can-do attitude. Looking forward to the rest!
Nice to see Mick helping out🎉 This is gonna be FUN to watch 😮
This is gonna be one heck of a project, here for it! Cheers bud!
Keep up the great work
I admire your tenacity, or is it insanity? Love your video!
Dave, you have the best attitude. Down to earth and easy does it. Your humor while renovating this property is your signature trademark. I enjoy all your video content.
That's a really good way to avoid the wife man .. well done! :)
She probably feels the same way. 😂
I hope you can get the foundation leveled so that a restoration is even feasible. Another great video, Dave!
You inspire me and help solve problems with thinking and trying
Love your videos Dave! I’m late watching ! There were I know 4 commercials in 15 minutes 😢
Loved this video. I am very excited to follow this project.
Oh sweet jebus...... what a mess 😂 bet the owner was glad to sell that.
So looking forward to more. Good start!!!💚
Dave, I love the series you are doing on this cabin. Your videos are a great inspiration. I cannot wait to see how this property turns out.
