Forgotten Campsite Lost in Time - Truck Camper Life

- In this week's video I headed up to the North Shore. I stayed north of Tofte at an old Civilian Conservation Corps camp. I believe this was known as the Saw Bill F1-10 camp for Company 716. Back the 30's this land was hopping with activity. I have found pictures of the campsite. There was close to 100 men or more, with Mutiple buildings, a water tower, and train spur.
It was hot all weekend. Temperatures were in the mid 90's so I didn't feel like cooking. I explored on the e bike and found a few dispersed campsites for future videos. Soon the leaves will be changing, and fall will bring in cooler temperatures. I'm really looking forward to that.
The truck is holding up well and so is the Arctic Fox truck camper. I have a few power supply projects coming up. I may work on them while camping in a future video.

😊 Spent many days and nights finding places to get my little Mazda pickup into so I could either sleep in a tent or the back my truck. Along with my canoe and truck and being totally alone I was one happy camper. Also brought my mountain bike a few times and enjoyed exploring with that. Makes me miss the days of being young and single and exploring the areas on the outskirts of the boundary waters area. Thanks for the videos.

Nice to catch up with you again in the great outdoors! Tuesday’s just haven’t been the same while you were away. I’m with you, fall is the best season especially for camping. Bugs are done and people seem to be fewer and farther between. Campfires are way more enjoyable and the air is fresher! See you next week!

Ha i looked up company 716, they have a group photo thats really neat, on either side of the group they are playing with a black bear cub trying to get them in the photo. Thanks for the videos
I thought that was a cool picture too. I had a spot in the video showing all those photos while talking about the history. I had the sound of men talking and laughing softly playing in the background. It was during the segment sitting at the firering. I made the photos opaque so you could see the faint glow of the lanterns behind them. Unfortunately, the photos were copyrighted, so that part was left out.

When you say you've had enough of the heat, I can so relate. I love the change of seasons, always something to look forward to! By the end of summer I'm so ready for winter. By the end of winter I'm so ready for summer. Im looking forward to more fall then winter camping vids

The one you stayed at when it got dark you would have been able to hear Bigfoot sneaking up on you 100 yards away! Looks like a great fishing spot where the ladies who were tent camping were at. Thanks. Larry and I started our channels at the same time. I reached out to him when we were both struggling with 500 or fewer subscribers. Ever since then, we have been bouncing ideas off of each other. We both struggle to find our strides.

My grandfather worked the CCC during the 1930's. I don't think he was up your way, more to the east in Connecticut. He actually learned some trades! He ended up working the steel mills after the war.
Their workmanship was next level. We have a lot of buildings, stairs, and retaining walls all built by the CCC and still looking great today. I love watching documentarys about them.

That was a real gem of a place the forest ranger told you about. I live in Indiana and today was a doozy heat wise, but the next couple of weeks looks awesome, highs in the 70's.
That's what I'm looking forward to. It hit 90 today, but tomorrow, the high is 64.

Hi, Kenny! I've watched the channel for a while and love it! I live in Ely so I always perk up when you come this way. I drive a 2005 Dodge Caravan fitted out for camping so I can't always get to excellent boondoks with my low ground clearance. I always try to figure out where you are by landmarks and google maps but I am never successful! I don't blame you for keeping them hush, but I'll keep trying, lol

I was cutting trees this weekend at the cabin and it was stupid hot.
That was quite a covey of ruffed grouse. Probably a momma and her chicks from this spring.

I am a truck camper guy in Indiana. Working on carrying a boat on my camper so I can go fishing while camping, glad to hear that you are interested in a folding boat or kayak. I have a small 8' kayak carried on the back bumper of my big 11' camper. custom bumper mount and attaches to the ladder. like to send you a picture, you might have some other ideas to share. keep up the good work.

UPWELL 13'6”/11' Inflatable off of Amazon $399 for the 11 foot 449 for the 13’6”. Just a chinesium thing, but with a drop stitch floor it is a very good kayak for the price. The paddles it comes with are to short but a longer paddle can be picked up anywhere

For the kayak option, I would go with the inflatable model, does not take up space, and with a via air compressor, you will like it

FYI- I use a Yakama Exo system bike rack on the back of my truck with truck camper. The great thing about it is it pivots away from the truck so I can enter without having to unload it. Better than having to put it in the back seat also! E Trailer sells them.

I've never seen that many grouse in such a small area! We have a pretty good grouse season here in Michigan, but I have always heard Minnesota has the best grouse hunting.
E-scooter won’t be ideal for an off road adventure as the wheels are small. In my opinion, the e-bike what you have is the perfect choice. I would go with a foldable kayak. Keep filming more such wonderful adventures. Cheers!

There should be some history on the CCC camp, and railroad I would think. Pretty quiet and peaceful for a Labor Day weekend. Maybe some are to timid to go deep in the forest ! Will check out your friends video next.👍
You are right, I found a lot of information. There are some really cool pictures of all the buildings and workers. Unfortunately, everything had copyrights preventing me from uoloading the photos. Glad to see you all repaired and out on the road again! Counting the days now to my trip. Six days camping on the coast in Big Sur CA. HWY 1 still closed from the north due to a landslide from last winter. A 3 1/2 hour drive to get there from the south. Nearest real store is a one and a half hour drive to the south so I need to bring everything necessary to last six days.

Kenny I've gone back and started to watch your pervasive videos. I'm new in the last few months. Wow you really have me wanting a truck camper. We currently have a travel trailer and it's all getting to be so much work. I love how easy your set up & break down is. My only problem is it's always on your truck. I know you can remove them but then it's a lot of work to do as well. We have some thinking to do. Thanks for all the great trips you share. I love watching your travels!

I think I know that spot. When I was up a couple weeks ago, the forest was dead. I'm happy to see that the number of people in the forest is below pre covid numbers. Lots of people trashing it during covid.

Good evening from Godley Texas, just got back from camping about an hour from Austin. The only other person there was the camp host. Great video. If your bike doesn’t have front or rear suspension, bigger tires will help soften the ride but another TH-camr who reviews bikes swears by the seats with suspension you can buy separately.
