      It is actually possible to get the Surface Laptop Go with 8gb or 16gb ram. But the bad screen resolution and slow SSD cannot be replaced or upgraded - this is the real big issues with the laptop in my opinion.

    The i5 model with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD (upgradable) is now $550. The touchscreen is also a nice touch (no pun intended). In fact, I'm typing on one right now and my chief complaint is the lack of a back-lit keyboard since I do a lot of work at night when my family goes to bed. Wtf 😂 macbooks gpus suck and the xps cooling is way WAY better than the macbook's cooling, wich translates into way better performance at sustained loads like for example exporting video, plus the GPUs cuda cores help a lot in video and photo applications, ray tracing cores is just the cherry on top. The screen on the xps is also better than the macbook's screen without a doubt. Also in fairness the xps doesn't die if your ssd and ram have problems, you know you can upgrade them unlike macbooks. As they use words like Share Contacts, etc....That is the agreement you sign to use their Product. All that before you install one application like Google Store. Facebook. TH-cam..etc...As they run while those application are closed or the Account is deleted.

    Formatting doesn't reduce storage capacity. Windows displays storage in GiB, so 64GB (64000000000 Bytes) will display as 59.6GiB (64000000000 Bytes, or 59.6 * 1024 * 1024 * 1024). This is not formatting losses, you get the exact same storage as a 64GB Mac, which displays in the decimal GB the same as the storage vendors use. Yes, the notation GB is used incorrectly, but that's another issue entirely

    It's a shame that Microsoft handicapped the base model so much. The laptop itself looks really good. It'll just leave a bad impression on people who buy the base config. I'm personally convinced that Apple would eventually create a sub $700 Macbook with an iPhone chip or something in a couple of years. That'll be the true killer laptop at this price range.

    Sir as per my IT experience, there are still people out there who can live with 4GB of ram and 64GB of storage. These groups of people don't mind waiting for programs to open. So, this giant manufacturer is right about selling this machine with lower specs.

  • @tipoomaster
    @tipoomaster 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If the base spec didn't exist, and the middle and high end skus were moved down that peg, THEN it would be a good value. But as it is it's a value trap, the entry level looks cheap, but with 4GB backed by slow eMMC storage, is a poor experience, then when you get to an SSD and 8GB, you're already up at the price of higher end competition.

    I was so close to spending cash on a M2 MBA to dailydrive but I wanted to do more research as the asking price is too high for my budget. Lukily I came across the Surface Laptop Go 2 with 11th Gen i5, 8GB and 128GB for £549. I went for this option in Platinum color. I've always preferred Windows over Mac OS but missed having the sexiness of Mac hardware. The design or Surface Laptop Go 2 is the same as Surface Laptop Go, and is flawless, as per your review. I'd have preferred a backlit keyboard but can live without it and I usually don't look at the keyboard when typing unless I'm hunting for a special character. On the other hand, the touch screen is amazing to have in a laptop when casually browing youtube on bed. I can also use the on screen keyobard as a tablet when working in the dark.

    The upgraded model is worth it! If you buy a Surface Pro convertible tablet or laptop from the Microsoft store, buy the mid tier model. It compares well to Apple in terms of build quality and its designed to run well with Windows 10. Microsoft is now a legitimate hardware as well as software company these days and the integration is right up with the Apple Mac OSX.

    I have a 2012 15” And it is still running strong. Unfortunately Buying a used MacBook is a mine field. They have had issues with things like the butterfly keyboard. Louis Rossman has an excellent video detailing all the potential issues with the various years and models. While you can fix them an average consumer could very well be buying someone else’s problem. Apple also continues to remove features. In example USB ports, headphone jacks, SD card slots. You should have bought a mid-level model for a true comparison.

    Here at Apple, we provide the best build quality products. Our Macbooks have defective keyboards, display that have issues, soldered SSDs (motherboard dead = goodbye data) and overheating glued batteries.😊. All this and more are included in every purchase of a Macbook and also included are free frequent visits to the Apple Store for repairs. (Notice: repairs aren't free, we are not charity)🙃.

    I’m still on a early 2015 13in macbook pro, the keyboard and trackpad died a year ago or so and have been using it as my desktop since and it still doesn’t slog on me down. I get surprised when using 9th gen wintel machines at work and they just dragging to a stop on basic webapp stuff or absolutely dying on cad softwares while somehow my 5 year crippled laptop just runs everything faster. I’m now on an iPad Pro as my main computer and really only go back to that mac for the 2 programs i need for work that don’t run on ipad os.
    after 15 years or so on mac os, i don’t think i can ever go back to windows machines, no matter the cost efficiency and shit.
