FWIW, I like comparisons like this and think it is fine to compare devices that are at different price points. I think we all know that the Go vs XPS is not a direct comparison. It is very easy to get sucked into spending the extra money for more performance or nicer screens etc so sometimes it is good to have level set and be reminded of how much you can do with less expensive devices and how similar they can be in real world usage.

Mark, great catch! I don't know what happened as I don't remember changing anything in the browser settings when I set them up but you are correct, you'd lose a little more screen info on the Go 2 with the browser favorites showing. Thankfully, it's still pretty impressive for a screen that's technically around an inch smaller 😱!

Hello, what do you yhink aboutSurface Laptop Studio and XPS 13 Plus i7 3,5K ? I need a laptop for photography but just for worklow and sometimes for little corrections. Many thanks for all job you make.
Hey there! I'm actually working on a comparison of the SL5 and XPS 13 which will drop in a few days (!) So watch out for that. On the plus, you'll get the P series processor which IS a little more powerful, but I found the keyboard and trackpack a little different in use and didn't like it too much. I also really like the build quality of the surface over the dell. I have a video on the plus from a few months ago that might help too so check it out.
Hello Mike! I will be going to college this fall to get a computer engineering degree and the university has recommended us to get a device with Window OS. I found your channel (btw love your vibe and what you've created! I like how you target the realistic day to day usage concerns) while I was researching for a good laptop where I can run CAD softwares and simulations, do some programming, light and portable with good built quality and wouldn't fail me for the next 5 years of college. This is the first time I am making a tech purchase and uncle Mikey these murky waters are hard to navigate. I've been rewatching your Dell XPS 13, surface reviews and their comparisons because I haven't been able to decide what to get. I was also considering 2 in 1 product like surface pro 8 because I am planning on going digital with my notes and annotations but my fear is I won't be able to run demanding softwares on it given that the lines are quite blur if it is a good PC or a good tablet also, they ain't cheap. What would you recommend to someone like me? How should I navigate this confusing sea of specs and choices?
Dude… welcome to the channel! Thanks for watching & subscribing. Appreciate the ❤️. Now, onto laptops… for CAD I think you’ll find the XPS 13 a little small from a screen perspective. I’d probably be looking at something like the Asus 14X I just reviewed yesterday (12th gen i7, 16gb and 512gb with OLED screen for $1399) or Surface Laptop Studio (11th gen, 16gb, 512gb) which would give you the pen input option as it lays the screen down. They’re both in the 14” range and seem to have solid build quality so should be a good place to start!
When I was in university ( about 8 yrs ago for Computer Engineering ) , there was no required classes which called for CAD software. Most students used the lab computers to use whatever licensed software we needed. Having a laptop was nice to work on writing papers or coding ( c++ / java / python) assignments which usually did not require a lot of computing. I was quite sad having spent decent money on a laptop for university just to find out how little I ended up using it; same can be said for "required" textbooks.
9:45 screen size comparison . this is why i check out this channel for laptops rather than other youtubers . cuz ma uncle cares about user experiences not just cpu and benchmarks !! a big fan from Korea!
I love my Surface Laptop 4 i7! Amazing premium, fast, clean, and always up to date machine. The graphics are very good for every day office tasks. I can even play rise of tomb rider at 40/50 fps with 1620 x 1080p resolution.
Ah, I wish I had the larger one but I don’t. It isn’t that much bigger in real life, but that little bit makes a big difference when you’re using it and also when you’re carrying it 😁
I'm so torn....my company worked off of XPS a few years ago then rolled out the Surface. I had a way better experience with XPS than the surface, which was ALWAYS crashing. BUT now it seems the XPSs quality is declining and Surface is well loved.
I dont typically leave comments, but I have been watching hours of reviews on the 2022 Dell XPS 13 and Surface Laptop 4 and your review is by far the best. I have been debating between these two and I finally found a video of them being compared side by side. Can you please do another video like this but comparing the Surface Laptop 5 vs 2022 Dell XPS 13? I know the SL5 is really new but im debating between the SL5 and 2022 Dell XPS 13 and would love to see you compare them. A review of the SL5 would also be highly appreciated. 🙏 Keep up the great work! You got a new subscriber.
Well hey Tiffany! What a nice surprise to see on a Sunday morning. Thanks so much for watching and throwing a little ❤️ my way. I’ve been working hard on the channel for almost 2 years to bring a different voice to the review space. I have a SL5 being delivered on launch day so will be reviewing that for sure, along with the Pro 9. I’ll also be working on some comparisons so stay tuned and maybe hit the notification bell on your subscription so you see them as they drop. It’ll take a couple weeks to get everything out but we’ll drop them one by one as fast as we can! Thanks again Tiffany and enjoy your Sunday!
Looking at getting either the Dell or Go 2 for work. I use CAD and Microsoft Documents would the Go 2 handle CAD fine? I like the laptop due to the size more
Hey buddy, thanks for watching and joining the chat! I'm not super familiar with CAD programs from personal experience but my understanding is that those files can get big and need some horsepower to really work. Both of these are U series processors which means they're lightweights so I'm not sure they'll do what you need. The Dell will give you move options for higher configurations so that may be safer but you may want to look at something with the P series 12th gen chip!
Awesome review. Anyone can read a spec sheet, I go to reviews to hear about the user experience. I know you said it's not fair to compare these, but how would the Surface Laptop 4 15 in compare to the XPS 13 Plus? I'm torn between the two because while I like the Surface, I can't deny that the 13 Plus has a great, far more modern look, which I do care about for something so expensive. Also do you think it's worth waiting for the Surface Laptop 15 or not?
Hey buddy! Thanks for watching and appreciate the question. They’re pretty different devices and the surface is quite a lot bigger due to the different screen ratio. But, I do like surface devices and if it were me, I’d wait a few weeks for the updated models and then compare. They might not be as futuristic looking but things like high refresh rate screens, superb pen input etc. sure are tempting.
@@mikedropstech Thanks for the reply! I'll see if I can find any leaks about what's coming because the Surface Studio is on a great sale right now so it's very tempting. My laptop may need to hold out for a while if I wait but it might be worth it.
Hi Uncle Mike i just pulled the trigger on hp envy 15 i5 12th gen variant and i just wanted to ask if i did the right thing? Its light and is a 2 in 1 and also has a 15 in screen which i love. I have some remorse that I didn't go for spectre 14 but it was way more expensive has less ports for essentially the same laptop. Hopefully it puts up with me through med school
Hey Ali, don't overthink it buddy. I haven't spent much time with the envy range but they seem to be well made machines and you're right, the pricing is crazy good!
Hey Mark! I’m pleased you found my channel too 😱😁! Glad you’re enjoying the Surface range. Can’t wait to see Surface Laptop 5. I hear we’re in for some big updates!
Because of the off axis viewing angles on the LG2, you don’t do it any favors by shooting from the side (even accounting for the lower brightness). Was the DELL using an ad blocker ? If so that makes a diff in load times. Love your production value
Yeah we realized a little too late the sideways shot wasn't working. We don't do that in newer videos now 😱. On the adblocker, I try to use the defaults of everything whenever possible just to keep things consistent so however it came out of the box should be how I tested. Thanks for watching and going some feedback?
Hi. Glad to come to your video.. 1 question : which 1 should I buy AMD 7 or i7 for surface laptop 4? Which 1 performs better overall , lesser heating/fan usage and better battery??????
The AMD version seems to have better battery life and heat than the intel chips on this generation. Just remember Surface Laptop 5 will be out in 2 months!
Hey Uncle Mike, I’ve really been enjoying the content so far as I look for a new laptop going into high school. This video was perfect since it was comparing the main 3 windows machines I was looking at. I personally love the look of the Go 2 and I was wondering which you would recommend for a freshman?
Hey buddy, thanks for watching and the sub! For me, especially right now as Amazon have the SL5 for $699, I can’t see any reason to choose the Go 2. It’s cute for sure, but the weaker battery life and chip really aren’t worth it given how crazy the prices are on the regular surface range. I’d shoot for a bargain SL4 or 5 if you can swing it.
Get the XPS you can afford that comes with 32GB and 2TB. You won't notice any difference between CPU gens in the real world. Only thing to watch out for 16:9 vs 16:10. If you watch a lot of videos, you'll likely be happier with the older 16:9 models. I have both the 9370 and the 9310 and they are both great laptops. Keyboard actually feels a bit better on the older 9370. Only reason I brought the 9310 was because I really needed the 16:10 screen.
Yep. We realized after shooting how distorted it looked. We’ve done it before with 2 devices and it worked pretty well but 3 was a little too long! Thanks fully you do get some great shots of the different screens in the b-roll we overlayed so that helps.
Use both the 11th Gen Intel XPS 13 and bought my wife the Surface Pro 4 (Intel). My XPS 13 cost $1,699 with 16GB/512SSD and BestBuy had the SP4 for $959. I hate to say it, but the SP4 is a better experience. The keyboard, trackpad, battery, and webcam are better on the Microsoft laptop and the alcantara is underated for comfort. Don't get me wrong, the XPS 13 is great but if I had to do it over again, I would go with the Surface Laptop. Where the XPS wins is with Thunderbolt ports.
Microsoft nailed it with the surface devices which is why they consistently rank as some of my favorite windows laptops. The level of polish is up there with Apple and for many people, that’s more important than the sum of parts inside.
Hey Melanie! Thanks for watching and subscribing, and thanks for throwing a little ❤️ my way!!! I know it's tough choosing between devices which is why I love making comparison videos. Glad this one helped.
This review helped me to decide between the SL4 Ryzen and the XPS and I've decided to pay 100 euro less (500 vs 600 euro) for the SL4. I love the review for it not looking at benchmarks (like I would for my gaming pc) but on what is important for a laptop I take with me to school!
Much better mix of more videos of the machines, but there's still a much higher percentage of the video that is of you, I would like if you played the broll during some of the times you are talking about it
Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😁. The go is a great idea, but it seems a little tough to execute at the price point. Kind of reminds me of the old netbook phase we had a few years back. But nicer.
My Surface Laptop 5 arrives today so we’ll be doing a bunch of reviews to help. Let me see what I can do with the Go 2 as it’s not really in the same class of device.
Heyy, i am a mass communication student, i need to edit videos, photos, make magazines, ppts, newspapers Can you please tell me which laptop would be better for me?? I likr the surface 4 a lot, but confused between surface 4 or macbook air or new vaio or asus series? Can u please recommend
Hey Ridzi! Great question and happy to help but much of this depends on the software you want to use. If you need Final Cut for example, then Apple is your only choice. If you’re using Premiere Pro then either could work. Budget is gonna affect things also but for now, I’d leave surface out because they’re releasing new ones next week (!). Depending on how those look and the specs they might be interesting, but if $1200 is the budget (I’m guessing by your MacBook Air comment) then I don’t think you’ll find something that can outperform an Air at that price point!
@@mikedropstechhey, mike Thanks a lot for replying, that too so soon Would it be a good idea to wait for surface 5? (Coz m not much inclined to mac bcoz of the paid softwares)
Yep, surface laptop 5 and surface pro 5 both get released this month so if you can wait, then it may be worth it. Also, remember on a Mac that iMovie is included and is very capable so that could sway things. Windows doesn’t have a good alternative for free 😳
I really like your review/video of the Spectre x360 - the best one so far in my opinion. I worry about the performance compared to the XPS 15", but a I really like the idea of a convertible. I just can't make up my mind of which one to purchase.
Hey John, thanks again for some solid feedback. It’s tough because the XPS is definitely the powerhouse of the 2 but you’re right, balancing the trade offs with the convertible form factor and other features makes it harder. I can tell you a 16” convertible is BIG so keep that in mind!
You gain height-wise because on the Dell Laptop you have the bookmarks active. These things really make me question your judgement on technology in general...
Hey buddy! Thanks for watching and joining the convo. MacBook Air or 14/16 Pro with Final Cut would be the easiest, or if Premiere Pro is your jam, you could throw in an XPS 13 Plus or 15, Asus 14x etc. but you’ll deal with heat and terrible battery life for sure. You’ll be surprised just what an $1199 MacBook Air can handle 😱
Laptop Go 2 : 1536 x 1024 (148 PPI) 15.6" Laptop : 1920 x 1200 (145 PPI) The density of the pixels is measured in pixels per inch. PPI determines the physical size of each pixel. If both Laptop Go 2 and a 15.6" Laptop both roughly have 145 pixels per inch, does that mean if these two screens were to compared side by side, the FONT would be the same size on both displays? This is important for people who read lots of text and do word processing. Can you do a video to demonstrate this?
Basically, yes. If the PPI are the same and since one screen is smaller, just imagine you cut the larger screen to be the size of the smaller screen. Even if they didn't have the same PPI, you can change font scaling to whatever percentage you want, so that's not really an issue.

Love the channel but please please just pronounce words with ‘t’s in them in your normal accent. It’s odd having it 95% English, 5% american-ish. You actual do this at 4:42 and it was so, so much better! No offence intended.

Hey Melanie! Thanks for watching and subscribing, and thanks for throwing a little ❤️ my way!!! I know it's tough choosing between devices which is why I love making comparison videos. Glad this one helped.
Thank you for this comparison
My pleasure!
This review helped me to decide between the SL4 Ryzen and the XPS and I've decided to pay 100 euro less (500 vs 600 euro) for the SL4. I love the review for it not looking at benchmarks (like I would for my gaming pc) but on what is important for a laptop I take with me to school!
Hey buddy! Glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful 😀
Much better mix of more videos of the machines, but there's still a much higher percentage of the video that is of you, I would like if you played the broll during some of the times you are talking about it
Glad you enjoyed it. Will keep working on the balance but there’s only so much b-roll I can shoot! 😱
Recently bought a Surface Go 2 laptop and the thermals aren't the best. It heats up quite a bit. There are actually no fans with the Go 2.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😁. The go is a great idea, but it seems a little tough to execute at the price point. Kind of reminds me of the old netbook phase we had a few years back. But nicer.
Could you do a comparison between the laptop surface 5 and the laptop go 2 ? :)
My Surface Laptop 5 arrives today so we’ll be doing a bunch of reviews to help. Let me see what I can do with the Go 2 as it’s not really in the same class of device.
Heyy, i am a mass communication student, i need to edit videos, photos, make magazines, ppts, newspapers
Can you please tell me which laptop would be better for me??
@@mikedropstechhey, mike
Thanks a lot for replying, that too so soon
Would it be a good idea to wait for surface 5? (Coz m not much inclined to mac bcoz of the paid softwares)
Yep, surface laptop 5 and surface pro 5 both get released this month so if you can wait, then it may be worth it. Also, remember on a Mac that iMovie is included and is very capable so that could sway things. Windows doesn’t have a good alternative for free 😳
@@mikedropstech okay, then mac is better it seems😶
Is the Laptop Go's screen that warm? It's better for the eyes
It is warm but those were the default settings so you can tweak it a little and get it a little bluer!
@@mikedropstech If I have used a Macbook Pro 16" (and I was ok with that), will the form factor make it feel bigger and more cumbersome that that?
Nope. If you’re good with that size you’ll be fine with either of these. I found the MBP 16 too big for me also!
You gain height-wise because on the Dell Laptop you have the bookmarks active. These things really make me question your judgement on technology in general...
Hey Jan! Question away buddy. I question my sanity all the time 😱.
I enjoy watching your honest reviews.
Well hey Joe! You're my new best friend this sunny Monday morning 😱 and I appreciate the ❤️! I'll keep working on improving as the channel grows!!
Just want something to edit 4k videos on the go. ideas?
Laptop Go 2 : 1536 x 1024 (148 PPI)
15.6" Laptop : 1920 x 1200 (145 PPI)
The density of the pixels is measured in pixels per inch.
:)
Basically, yes. If the PPI are the same and since one screen is smaller, just imagine you cut the larger screen to be the size of the smaller screen. Even if they didn't have the same PPI, you can change font scaling to whatever percentage you want, so that's not really an issue.
Good video
Thanks!
Every one waiting for Surface 5 :)
Right! It’s looking to be a solid upgrade for sure 😁!
@@mikedropstech when do you think it’s coming out? Maybe I’ll wait on that one to buy
@@juliette889 usually October for Microsoft devices. This year, because they’re so far behind I’m betting on first week of October for the event / announcement and then another week to 10 days for deliveries.
@@mikedropstech thanks!!
I switched from my TV to my phone just to write this review. I found it very boring. The review is nice...but please make the videos more interesting. You speak slowly and there is very little video content for the products itself.
Hey buddy! Thanks for the feedback. We did a set of videos around these devices as there was so much to talk about so check this video out for more product shots! th-cam.com/video/4Qq8CYj6xZw/w-d-xo.html
@@mikedropstech the content you make...is really unique...just the videography needs improvement. We need content like these. Keep it up !
We’re working on it. The latest video for the new MacBook Air that dropped a few days ago was the most detailed timeline we’ve done test with over 2 days of editing time. Let me know if that one looks better!
he talks and talks forever, difficult to watch!
He has a lot to say and no one to tell it to.
Hey buddy, thanks for taking the time to watch. This was a little while ago and we’re still a young channel, I think you’ll find the newer videos have a better balance 😁
😱
Love the channel but please please just pronounce words with ‘t’s in them in your normal accent. It’s odd having it 95% English, 5% american-ish. You actual do this at 4:42 and it was so, so much better! No offence intended.
Erm… how I talk is kinda me! Grew up in the UK but almost 20 years in the US. Not sure I can change how I say things as an old dog 😱!
@@mikedropstech fair enough! Though you were trying to cater to an American audience in a weird way! Funny how your accent is otherwise still English. Crack on mate!
Less of your face, more of the product please.
