    Had this problem earlier this week, I was sure it was the starter solenoid or the starter. Was doing some TH-cam mechanicing and saw your video and thought “yeah LHT usually knows what he’s talking about” and sure enough I found those little pieces in my floorboard! Bridged the connector with a wire and it started right up! Once again you’ve saved me and my s2000!

    I woke up this morning to find the forbidden candy in pieces on my floormat. Thankfully i purchased a 4 pack of these in silicone to replace my cruise control stopper a couple months ago. This one was a royal PITA though. Took a flathead and taped the new stopper to a long flathead, assumed the proper 69 position. Using a light on the floor, i was able to illuminate the hole just enough and press the clutch and flathead into place. It got have way in so i flipped over and pumped the clutch to fully seat the stopper. Showed up to work 2 hours late but im good for another 20 years.

    [98 Civic] Had this issue today. Years ago I replaced the cruise control rubber and another rubber plug which triggered the brake light when you press the brake. This time though, I saw the hard plastic rubber on the carpet & I knew what that meant so I looked underneath & couldn't find where it broke off from. I had no idea there was another switch on the clutch pedal hiding in the back until this video 👍👍. Thankful I am 1 of those people who was able to fit my finger up there and temporary put something to hold the spot until I buy a new set of rubber plugs.

    Man this was a pain in the ass. Just getting the stopper back in the hole for the neutral safety switch was hell then slipping back the safety pin safely was hell again. Got it done but it was so cramped. I almost fainted from heat exhaustion. Thx tho you saved my ass. I had to get something that sits flat against the stopper then hammer it in.

    Without removing the pedal assembly an 8” screw driver with the plug taped to the very end works. Block the clutch with a small
    Wood chunk to hold the pedal where you can see the hole. This method took me 90 seconds to fix my 99 civic

    As a way to solve the clutch safety switch problem demonstrated here without removing the clutch to access the hole for the stop pad or bumper, you could refer to the following link (video and description). This method uses a putty to create a stop pad/bumper on which the clutch sensor/safety switch lands and is then pushed in.

    Instead of taking out the clutch assembly,
    I removed the driver seat 💺 ( 4 bolts ) laid flat with a hiking flashlight 🔦 pointing at the area where the rubber piece goes when u press the clutch. Used a 8 inch to 9 inch long hemostats to grip clip it, lines up the nose of the rubber piece with the hole 🕳 and pressed the clutch down, holding it in its place (removes hemostats) to grab 8 inch flat head screw driver to push the rubber fitting the rest of the way. Done ✅. Now just replace the seat 💺 and that’s a wrap.

    Yesterday I meet a guy on track that couldn't start his ep3 anymore. Engine was turning but didn't started. I guess something like that was happening from giving some shocks to the pedals . No check engine light .

    so this happened to me yesterday afternoon. I got in my car tried to start and nothing. Noticed the little rubber piece sitting on my floorboard. grabbed one from Oreilys, took the pedal out and stuck the piece in and still no start. I will admit that i probably opened(pushed?)the clutch pedal in and out while the pedal was REMVOED from the car and didn't realize the shock that it would create when pulled. Is it possible that i damaged the inhibitor button on the pedal? How would i test that if that's the case? mine is a 2000 ap1 so it does have a little more age to it

  • @colinolmstead12255
    @colinolmstead12255 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is a terrible design, they could have made the pedal solid without a hole for a plug and it would never fail… I ended up buying the doorman kit - part #74015. I double sided some duck tape and attached the plug to my finger, reached up and pushed it in. Extremely hard to get to especially if you don’t take out the seat, It was a pain in the ***. If you don’t get the plug you can also superglue a penny over the hole and it will fix it.

    • @LHTPerformance
      @LHTPerformance  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, there’s a reason they are designed this way. The main reason is to reduce the shock on the switch eventually breaking it. Second, it gives the pedals a quiet cushioned feel and sound going from limit to limit during the pedal travel. I’ve replaced them with double tape and screw drivers etc. it’s 10 times easy to remove the pedal assemble.

    ughhh those evil plastic stoppers/plugs/whatever, hate those things! My GSR also has 3 of them for each pedal switch under the dash, and all 3 of mine have broken apart. One time I noticed my car's brake lights wouldn't turn off, with the car just sitting in the parking lot at work. And most recently I couldn't start the car unless I reached under the dash and pushed the clutch interlock switch manually. I also happened to be having a distributor issue at the same time, so the car would die on a hill and then I couldn't get it started again. In my case I think I unbolted the clutch pedal arm from the bracket that holds the switches. And I used a small bolt for each one so I wouldn't have to wait on a parts order.
    Also great comments on why Matt sells what he sells.

    It's a designed failure point. A flat metal pedal would still work, but then you'd be replacing the more expensive switch rather than a cheap rubber button, and you'd likely have to replace it more often due to harsher impact every time you use the clutch. I saw a similar design in the headlight motors on the pop-up headlights on my Trans Am. Plastic gears would disintegrate over time. People complained about the cheap design, but dropping in a replacement gear is so much cheaper than replacing the entire motor.

      @@LHTPerformance The clutch doesn't cancel cruise control on my car. The brake does, but not the clutch - unless you mean disengage the cruise control temporarily while the clutch pedal is depressed. It resumes again when the pedal is released. So, for example, you can switch gears and maintain cruise control without having to set cruise control again. My Hyundai didn't work that way. With the Hyundai, pressing the clutch canceled cruise control. It had to be set again if you wanted to resume. Took a while to get used to the difference.

      @@Brillig2 On a Honda S2000, ( as per the one in the video) the brake and clutch have the ability to disengage the cruise control. The cruise will be not be re engaged until the set button is pressed. The reason I know, is I work on them pretty exclusively.

      @@LHTPerformance OK - for some reasons I had it in my mind it was a Honda Civic, probably because that's what I'm looking for. Sorry to throw in a curve ball. I'm just trying to figure out how to access the top clutch switch. All the videos I find don't have the interior fuse box blocking the way like it is in my car. The simple repair is made difficult simply because I can't reach my hand around to unplug the switch.

    Or better still... Delete it and not run the risk of ruining your crank thrust faces by pressing a clutch pedal in on a stone cold engine where there is no oil on thrust faces.

    Is this the same on all S2000s, AP1 and AP2 cars?

    • @Patrick94GSR
      @Patrick94GSR 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's probably the same on just about all Hondas. My GSR has the same plastic plugs, 2 on the clutch and one on the brake pedal for the brake light/cruise switch.

    What if you changed the pedal stop and its still not starting?

    • @LHTPerformance
      @LHTPerformance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Son Goku Start with the battery, make sure it’s fully charged and the terminals are tight. If you can, test you’re getting a solid 12v on the starter terminal post (Thicker wire) all the time. Then check when you start to start it, your getting 12v on the starter signal wire, (thin wire)

      Nice haha that's epic. This would be the second grommet failure on my AP2. First was the brake roughly a year ago and now the clutch. The pieces were all over the carpet so I knew right off the bat what was wrong. Thanks for uploading this video, super helpful 👍

    My car is cranking but it wont start. My cruise control stopped working a few weeks before the car stopped working too. Could this still be the reason?

    • @LHTPerformance
      @LHTPerformance  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely, it’s the lower button on the clutch pedal. Upper button is safety start.
