THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO STUCK AROUND TO THE END! I was genuinely surprised by how many "thinsulate" comments the video got. I was also cracking up reading em all 🤣. A winner has been picked! We'll do this again in a future video for sure!
Helped my friend do this on his S2000. The biggest change we noticed was actually how well it kept sound inside the car (music) and a reduction in rattling. Doors also felt significantly more solid.
Nice job on the install. Love that you did the doors and the trunk. Inspires me to do the same . "Thinsulate" Im getting older and appreciate less of the junk noise and more of engine and exhaust sound
I did a similar thing to my Integra Type R. I l limited my sound deadening to 10kg of weight as I didn't want to add too much weight. Was much nicer in the cabin even with such little sound deadening added. I don't drive my S2K a whole bunch and accept it as a loud car anyway being a convertible but nice to know you can quiet these cars down too.
Just stumbled upon your channel while doing research for s2000 parts. While I'm a bit late for the "thinsulate" giveaway as a late comer to your channel just want to say amazing build so far. I'm doing research as I'm collecting a back log of parts for an s2000 I dont have yet but hope to buy soon. Your approach is how I've always modified my cars, the modern OEM+ look and feel. Keep up the great work and I'll be looking forward to following your journey
Nice. I've done my driver door, but havent had a chance to do anything further yet. I didnt use "thinsulate" but thats a cool touch to add a bit more. Door shutting sounds way better at this point. Nice thud sound
Before and after of door opening/closing sound would’ve been awesome. Like you said in the video, thinsulate made a big difference on the door/door cards
man, you're right! I did film it but forgot to put it in. I think the older your car, the bigger the difference will be. in my low-ish mileage ap2 the doors closing sounded better but not by a whole lot. more of solid thud for sure. I imagine if you have an early year ap1 you'll notice a bigger difference. thanks for sticking around til the end.
Always super excited to watch your progress with the car. This is a daunting task to take apart everything but sounds like its worth it. Can't wait to see the GT3 vibes soon. THINSULATE FOR THE WIN!😂
Thinsulate!! Haha love your videos man and your S. Some good quality s2000 videos are the best keep it up your inspiring me to do things to mine with some quality parts 🤘
Awesome video! Thinking about doing something similar on my fully stock ap2. Mostly want to cut down on the noise sitting at highway speeds. Maybe “thinsulate” is just want I need to use ;)
Do closed cell PE foam so it decouples the actual sound waves and reduce actual rattles, butyl was purely just used to reduce resonance but also slightly reduce road noise as a first layer.
Nice work! Not sure if I'm more impressed by the clean install or the fact that you managed all of this in 3-4 days with a kid to look after as well. This is on my to-do list for sure, "thinsulate" and all 👍
After rewatching the video, I'm committing to it so I'm gonna run it and get my car padded up, its something I've always wanted to do so It'll be interesting to see the difference
By replacing my soft top to an OEM hardtop. I noticed a huuuge decrease in sound. I thought my suspension was horrible turns out my soft top just made a munch of all annoying sounds through rough roads. Hardtop definitely is a plus and so much lighter then softtop
Great video. How many pounds of weight do you think you added to the car? I hear the kilomat has some weight to it. I was on the verge of trying this before I noticed my rear wheel bearings were making noise and fixing that helped my case a lot. I still may try it. The thinsulate is a nice touch as well. Does the stereo sound better with the doors changes you made?
i added no more than 18lbs. hard to tell if the stereo sounds better, i guess i didnt really compare yet. I will say that now other little rattles that i didnt notice before are starting to bug me lol. thanks for sticking around til the end.
thinsulate! jk haha I wish I brought my car last weekend so we could compare back to back to see the real difference in insulation but next time 🤙🏼 I think I'm probably gonna do something similar in my car
Nice video sir! You happen to know where to find "how to" video / or pics about removing the floor mats.. and Im meaning the large ones that you took out in the first part of the video. 😊
hey whats up, man - sorry took a minute to get back to you lol. Its pretty easy to identify the carpet mounting points. if you follow along one by one youll get em all. i also referenced this video before i started th-cam.com/video/VAxaug7sE_c/w-d-xo.html
I’ve been wanting to do this to my car. But how many pieces of thinsulate did you use on the S. Watching your other videos with the fully asm build. Do you know what route he ended up going with ?
im not sure if Jihan (krazykorean) used thinsulate but he did mentioned he went almost full coverage with the sound deadening mats. im not sure how much i used either but it wasnt that much. thanks for sticking around til the end!
one of my fears for sure... my car its always in my garage and never driven in the rain. otherwise i may avoid some of the spots that tend to get water like the deep section of the trunk.
So it is called thinsalite? Plan to make this video I am definitely going to do that also. I really don't like how loud they are, Unless i'm out raising hell.
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO STUCK AROUND TO THE END! I was genuinely surprised by how many "thinsulate" comments the video got. I was also cracking up reading em all 🤣. A winner has been picked! We'll do this again in a future video for sure!
How much do you order of the Thinsulate?
Helped my friend do this on his S2000. The biggest change we noticed was actually how well it kept sound inside the car (music) and a reduction in rattling. Doors also felt significantly more solid.
Great video. Another Dad here watching from Scotland. Need to get this done on my s2k. Cute kid!
the funny thing is the kid in the video is not mine 🤣but i do have two kids myself. cheers from one s2k loving dad to another
Nice job on the install. Love that you did the doors and the trunk. Inspires me to do the same . "Thinsulate"

i took the weight into consideration as well and i added a similar amount of around 8 kg in total to my s2000. well worth it!
I’ve always enjoyed your videos, the thinsulate installation was clean.
i appreciate the feedback! thanks for sticking around til the end!
Awesome to see notable results! I’m beyond stoked to try Thinsulate on my S2000!!!
yeah, i def a little worried it would make no difference on the dB reader 😆. thanks for sticking around til the end.
I'm glad you made a video regarding sound deadening on your S2000. I think many of us would love to 3M Thinsulate our cars as well one day :)
i appreciate it! thanks for sticking around til the end!
Thinsulate ! hahaha anyways, really clean job on the install !
hahaha, thanks for sticking around til the end!
Nice job and vid! Pretty cool to see you use Thinsulate in addition to the other stuff. OK, I just wanted to say "thinsulate." lol

Great video. I may do this for my S2000. Gotta find some “thinsulate” and the time to do so!
this would be a nice project to do over a weekend. thanks for sticking around til the end!
Great job with the Thinsulate. I also have an S2K, and I need to do this.

Yo keep them coming. They are very helpful. You are building an exact plus build I’m doing…

The 3M Thinsulate seems to be one that's recommended the most. But here in Canada it's hard to find them at reasonable prices.
I picked mine up on Amazon. I know Amazon prices in Canada are usually a bit more expensive. thanks for sticking around til the end!

Haha I've got 2 now as well and I'm still trying to start my shifter rebuild since February 😂
The thinsulate is a good application to quite the cabin.
Been considering small additions to add to my s2000. Maybe thinsulate would be a good option

I think the Lexus version of the MK4 Supra was the SC300. Correct me if I’m wrong. I think you could even get the Lexus with a manual.
good point - lol totally forgot about the sc300..

This channel is amazing, you're incredible 😮
Nice video, I thought you would have seen more of a reduction than you did with all that Thinsulate and Kilomat. What thickness Kilomat did you use.

did you do the hard top with the thinsulate and the mat too? I feel like that would kill any wind noise at speed and make it a lot more civilized

So how much "thinsulate" do you recommend for this job? I've wondered about this and some type of active noise reduction audio system for the S.
Did you consider adding thinsulate to the OEM hardtop?
i didnt at first but i might try if i manage to get the courage to take off the headliner lol. thanks for sticking around til the end!

im not sure tbh, but its not much. thanks for sticking around til the end!

How much of the Kilmat did you have to buy in total to do the whole car?
i bought 2 packs of the 36 sqft but i really only used 1. you'll need two packs if you want to do more coverage than i did.
How much weight did you add to the car to achieve the 3 dB reduction?
No more than 18lbs
