I have never been able to listen to this song without crying. Not since 1974 when it was released (and I was 25 yrs old) - to now, 2024, and I am 75. The lyrics are so simple - yet so eloquent . . . and the melody and chord progression supports the lyric so delicately. This 2nd-Cousin of Kenny Loggins was such a fine songwriter and singer . . .
I was just a kid when this was out. It moves me so. He's feeling those lyrics. There's nothing like 70's mello tunes. So lucky to have grown up in it. Rest In Peace Dave Loggins. You left behind something so beautiful.
I've always loved this song, but it wouldn't be until decades later I'd really appreciate the core of its lyrical content. Simply put: a skillfully constructed song.
I was 11 when it was released and I’m 61 now. This song is as good as it was when it was released, even though I’m not😉Glad to still be in the game. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 everyone. Count your blessings 😊
Beautiful! 🌹 Brings back a lot of memories. Happy Thanksgiving! 🧡🦃💛 Be happy, be humble, be kind, and just be thankful! Happy Thursday... thank you for sharing! 💖
What a beautiful and romantic song, I remember it well and can definitely relate to the moving into the mountains part. That’s where I find “myself” every summer. It’s my place of refuge, peace and solitude with nature, my 1st love… 🏔️❣️
Ran into him in a gay bar. He asked if me and another woman wanted to get together, said who he was, as if that made a difference. He sang the song and it was him. We declined.
Great song and (given it's Thanksgiving here in the US) one I'm definitely grateful for TMS serving up today. Anyone know who "the man" is, as in "I'm the number one fan of the man from Tennessee"? Elvis maybe (I know he was born in Tupelo, but Graceland is in Memphis)? I've always wondered.
In the song "Please Come to Boston" by Dave Loggins, the man from Tennessee is **the singer himself**. The song is written from his perspective as he reflects on his journey and the places he's lived, trying to convince his love interest to join him. Each verse represents a different stage of his life in a different city: Boston, Denver, and finally returning to Tennessee. Yes, Dave Loggins is indeed from Tennessee. He was born in Mountain City, Tennessee, and spent part of his early life in Bristol, Tennessee. He moved to Nashville to pursue his music career, which became a significant part of his professional life. His connection to Tennessee is well-known, especially highlighted in his song "Please Come to Boston," where he refers to himself as "the man from Tennessee."
@@BrentPhillips Thank you! So his love interest is saying, since she is his #1 fan and those locations (Boston, Denver, LA) aren't good for him, he should come to her for his benefit. That makes sense.

2nd cousin, huh? I think I see a resemblance.
This song could ONLY have been written in the 70's. It is a real time piece of perfection.
Agreed.
Yes
This song is priceless! This is writing at its best!
Midnight special was what we had in the 70s, like a trusted friend, as a teenager babysitting, back in the day when TV ended at 2 am. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Rest easy Dave, thanks for the memories
Like coming home... Comfort music at its best!

I'm 61 next week. And I'm from Boston!
Beautiful song..Haven't heard it in quite some time.. it still pops into my head from time to time..
I thought it sounded too good to be live, but clearly it is live and an outstanding performance.
Those were the days!!!🎉
The seventies were much better than today imho!
@@truthtriumphantno question, absolutely 🎉❤
Yes
Yes, they were!
Always loved this song ❤
One of the best songs of all time.
Bravo! Thanks for sharing. 👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊😊
True talent from a better time…
Great song and performance! 👏💗
Actual live music on TV, no lip sync, no Autotune. Imagine that!
Classic 70's AM Radio
Even though he only had the one hit he did write Pieces Of April, one of my fave Three Dog Night tunes.
Dave Loggins truely is "the man from Tennessee." Born in Mountain City, TN (1947). Died in Nashville, TN (2024).
Beautiful! 🌹
Brings back a lot of memories.
Happy Thanksgiving! 🧡🦃💛

Great song!!! Rest in Peace, Dave🕊️.
i love this song.
Such a beautiful song sung beautifully.
Classic
He also wrote "Augusta". CBS has used the instrumental version of the song for its Masters coverage since 1982
how come no one writes and performs songs like this any longer? I think it's a talent issue.
I did not know that Dave was Kenny Loggins 2nd cousin.
👍👍

Thank you! I’m a huge Joan Baez fan 💖
he died 4 months ago.
Another great gone too soon. ❤
I love the song but never understood why she wasn't with him. I'd travel to the end of the world for my husband. I don't get it.
