An incredible performance, right here. Burton Cummings is one of our top Canadian vocalists and musicians. I saw Burton Cummings 4 times live, and met him.The Guess Who are an awesome band. May Kurt Winter rest in peace. Cheers! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️🇨🇦
You know what? I was thinking, when watching this and other Guess Who performances by Burton? He looks like he's GRUNGE before grunge? Grunge was returning to the simpleness of a great band and songwriting. No over reliance on electtrics. Almost MTV Unplugged a good 20 years before it existed? "The Guess Who" is one of those bands that demonstrate how SUPERB music, writing and performance can be when it's focused and experienced. David
I met Burton as well, back in 2000 in Toronto at the Family Farm Benefit. He was a bit of a douche. Was more concerned with finding a place to have a smoke in a non smoking facility. I had a wonderful chat with Donnie McDougall. He was magnificent.
Delivered pizza in Encino in 1978 and there were gold records near the entrance. It was Burton's pizza! Told him that I really liked his Canadian band!
Exactly how are they underrated? The GW sold multi-millions of records, got endless airplay around the world, and played sold-out concerts for years. (Lazy and meaningless cliche comment, dude.)
@@chasbodaniels1744 Not really, you just took it out of context. They just aren’t talked about enough. Despite their success, they are underrated. They don’t get enough credit or airplay, in my opinion. I think that very few people will put them on their top ten list. But I think I could get them on mine. How about you? Where would you rank them? I’d say in the top three, if you were just ranking Canadian bands.
It’s true as a 63 year old Montrealer I used too think they’re so so I was into the Stones Humble Pie and Mott the Hoople and Bowie. But now I know a lot more about music and they were incredible not only Burton but Randy’s guitar rock and jazzy. Too good really. Cheers from Montreal
Back in the day, it was about good vocals, actual musical talent and top songwriting, instead of how hard you can shake your ass. Miss the good music days!
Well now with technology musicians don't need to hassle with band members since they have a machine that can play the other parts. no one forms bands anymore. People like Jimmy Page, Brian May, Freddie Mercury would just do solo careers now days.
Check out Fleet Foxes and tell me there’s no good music being made today. I can name 100 more bands that are making amazing music. Open your eyes & ears!!!
@@richieboy6825 Fleet Foxes are fine. But on a notch lower than bands like Guess Who or even a similar sounding bands. Burton Cummings is a Tier 1 singer/songwriter. So maybe are John Legend or Bruno Mars (although he has drifted) although lower tier 1.
@@mdarrenu I’m glad you at least know who they are. I just tire of this whole attitude, which is based on unwillingness to even look for something new, that nothing made lately can have any merit. It seems to be human nature. I’m 55 and I go to live shows often. Usually in small venues where I see musicians in their 20’s & 30’s playing their hearts out. Great original compositions. It makes me feel so alive I just want other older people to experience it too!
What a GREAT band!! Burtons VOICE!! Always loved these 🇨🇦 Canadian guys 🍁. There’s a fantastic vid on YT with Burton Cummings singing with Ringo Starr’s All Starr Band; along with Joe Walsh, Todd Rundgren & Timothy B. Schmit among others.
Truly a great band, and so under-rated nowadays (maybe not up there in Canada, but certainly down here in the good ol' USA). And lest we forget another of Burton C's many many talents -- excellent flute player; won't make me forget Ian Anderson, but good enough in his own right.
Awesome to find this video. I just love anything with Kurt in it. He was the forgotten member, who did so much great work after Randy. I dedicated my 90's Guess Who website to him, and still think he is the greatest.
Heard "Albert Flasher" on the radio for the first time in about 50 years the other day, and thought what a great song ... Just being a kid I didn't know it was by the Guess Who, and just now watching this, that the vocalist was Burton Cummings ... who also played the piano driving the song ... and that he played the flute! 😮 Wtf! What a gun! This is what I love so much about music: the discoveries ✌️ P.S. Star Baby's great, and I can't get "Tell Mama" by Savoy Brown out of my head - thx TMS 😅
Saw them a year later in 1974 and they had no lead guitar...yet there was lead guitar being played?! It was kind of strange but they were still good. The band that opened for them got 3 encores though! Called themselves The Marshall Tucker Band😊
@@plantfeeder6677They had two guitar players before June of 1974: Kurt Winter and Donnie Mcdougall. After they both left, Domenic Troiano from James Gang replaced them.
"Albert Flasher" and "Life in the Bloodstream" are two of my favourite Guess Who songs that reflect Burton's love of '50s rock 'n' roll and really let him showcase his great vocal style...
On this show, they also did "Straighten Out," from the not-yet released Road Food LP, but I've yet to see that performance surface. At the time, that song actually caught my attention moreso than "Star Baby."
Plant apparently thought Cummings was a great singer, so there is that. I don't think Cummings is underrated, but some people simply don't have ears to hear.
“What do you do?” “I’m a singer for ‘The Guess Who.’” “Um, I don’t know. The Rolling Stones?” “No, the Guess Who.” “I already guessed! I don’t know! The Scorpions?!” “No! The Guess Who! What’s wrong with you?!”
What a voice!
What a TH-cam treat! Burton Cummings voice still blows me away. It doesn’t get better than this. Thank you Midnight Special!
The pride of Winnipeg. What a great voice on Burton.
I love The Guess Who❤❤❤❤❤

Not just Canada, Burton is one of the best rock vocalists of all time...anywhere. Absolutely inimitable.
One of the top vocalists of all times

He is one of the vocalists anywhere. ❤
How this band isn’t in the RROF is beyond me?
Undun. What a song. It never ages. Like Whiter Shade of Pale and Reflections. Every time you hear them, they're "new."
He not only has a beautiful voice, he knows how to use it.
When 3 of 5 band members are wearing hockey jerseys, you know they're Canadian.
Yeah one is Drydens 29. Go Habs Go.
Yep ! I love hockey !
Those Canucks really love that game.
Hockey "sweaters" as my Canadian friends like to call them.
Ahh
Burton voice a staple of 70's music for me. I could listen to 'No time' everyday.
How about the late 60s too?
I saw him and Randy a few years back and this guy has never lost a step. A true icon
TMS is spoiling me today. 2 Guess Who songs at the same time. Too much awesome at one time 😎.
One of the things I like about these broadcasts, no lip synch, least not with this video.
Lip synching back then was never a band's choice. TV shiws often required it.
Awesome! Always worth the watch! The Guess Who have been in my life since childhood. Love them, and Burton is amazing!🤩💜
This is 💯 times better than I was expecting. Fantastic singer.
That's some sweet piano playing 🎹
Happy Friday 🥳 Thank you for sharing! 💖
What a Band!!!
One of the most Underrated Bands of their time.
Burton Cummings had rocked the grunge outfits 18 years prior to Nirvana's emergence.
This comment right here! Neil Young too... that Canadian grunge!
WTF are you talking about ? Burton is a serious melody driven songwiter. He's as far awy from grunge as Billy Joel is.
@@derhandtrommler He said "grunge outfits." He's commenting about Burton's attire, not his music.
El vocalista de esta banda era multifacético.
I was a teen back then, these guys had some great songs that played on the radio back in the day.
And he’s still got it! Saw him perform NYE 2022 for his birthday at The Burt :)
Delivered pizza in Encino in 1978 and there were gold records near the entrance.
It was Burton's pizza!
Told him that I really liked his Canadian band!
Nice!
Lot of great music in the 60's and 70's. These guys played some of the best.
Wow. What a performance. And how did I not know that Burton Cummings played the flute?
How I love this band! Thanks for sharing ans cheers from Brazil.
Never realized how good Burton Cummings is! Talented band here.

Wow, amazing tight performance by this great band. Underrated for sure.
Balls to the wall incredible !!!
These guys were just one of the best, no doubt.. and "Undun" is one of my all time favorites.
Back when musicians were known for putting on a GREAT show!! Burt was one of the best.
Albert Flasher is one of my top fav songs of this decade, maybe longer. But this performance of Undun is primo👏👏👏💯💯💯
Think this use to be on AM radio 📻 best music from the 60/70s
Multi instrumentalist, great frontman Burton Cummings! 70s drumming, cracks me up! Got enough mutes on the drum kit boys? Lol! Bring on the beanbags!
Sounds as amazing today as it did then, just incredible.
Thank you Burt!
🤗🙏🍺cheers
As always thank you for this and there is far too little quality footage of the Guess Who live in the 70's so keep it going!!!

Great performance by the chameleonic Mr. Cummings. He sported MANY different looks, but the iconic voice was, and still is, always there!
The best! ❤
This is cooking!
Still top notch, after all these years.
Burton Cummings a very underrated singer
And a Good flute player too, such talent in this band!!
Awesome flute work in Undun.
One of my favorite bands of all time!
Burt just belts it better than anyone else in the day.
The best Guess Who lineup. Burton should be in the HOF just for his skills as a flautist.
this should ne mandatory listening.
Great singer oh and great piano player
Burton looks very modern here, from the haircut, beard, jeans, and shirt.
Awesome ❤️
Smooooth!
TALENT period
Midnight Special you can tell it’s live because it’s slightly different then the record with ad libs and lyric adds....nice job Burton....
THE GUESS WHO ROCKS FOR SURE!!! M.O'B
unbelievably talented
He is a Canadian Icon and Randy as well ❤
Burton was really handsome ☺️
I always wondered what the lyrics to Albert Flasher meant. Fantastic band.

Undun is a great song!
The Guess Who - Live At The Paramount is a great live album.
My God he was HOT!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Apparently sometime after Albert Flasher was released the band learned that there was an actual person with that name and they met him and his family.
Burton Cummings one of the best rock voices of that generation
Burton Cummings with a proper haircut! Gee, imagine that! ;-)
Classic
The dude could write songs!

As good as any band in 1973…💥

burt Cummings looks different with short hair. undun my favourite song.
🤟😎👍
Gotta love their outfit choices, too! Couldn't get much more Canadian!
Their clothes are awful.
Two songs here that far exceed the best work of the lauded Taylor Shit!
“What do you do?”
“I’m a singer for ‘The Guess Who.’”
“Um, I don’t know. The Rolling Stones?”
“No, the Guess Who.”
“I already guessed! I don’t know! The Scorpions?!”
“No! The Guess Who! What’s wrong with you?!”

These days, it seems entertainment is more about looks than actual talent.
