      You know what? I was thinking, when watching this and other Guess Who performances by Burton? He looks like he's GRUNGE before grunge?
      Grunge was returning to the simpleness of a great band and songwriting.
      No over reliance on electtrics. Almost MTV Unplugged a good 20 years before it existed?
      "The Guess Who" is one of those bands that demonstrate how SUPERB music, writing and performance can be when it's focused and experienced.

      I met Burton as well, back in 2000 in Toronto at the Family Farm Benefit. He was a bit of a douche. Was more concerned with finding a place to have a smoke in a non smoking facility. I had a wonderful chat with Donnie McDougall. He was magnificent.

    • @martinbrenner6664
      @martinbrenner6664 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@chasbodaniels1744 Not really, you just took it out of context. They just aren’t talked about enough. Despite their success, they are underrated. They don’t get enough credit or airplay, in my opinion. I think that very few people will put them on their top ten list. But I think I could get them on mine. How about you? Where would you rank them? I’d say in the top three, if you were just ranking Canadian bands.

    Heard "Albert Flasher" on the radio for the first time in about 50 years the other day, and thought what a great song ... Just being a kid I didn't know it was by the Guess Who, and just now watching this, that the vocalist was Burton Cummings ... who also played the piano driving the song ... and that he played the flute! 😮 Wtf! What a gun! This is what I love so much about music: the discoveries ✌️

    Not long after this, Kurt Winter and Donnie McDougall were relieved of their duties for being drunks. I saw them that fall pared down to a quartet again with the late Domenic Troiano on guitar. Troiano so impressed me that I named my new son Domenic in his honor. But Burton grew frustrated with this version of the band and pulled the plug on the GW in 1976. It's disgraceful that Garry Peterson trots out a fake GW to this day to make money off of Cummings and Bachman's songs.

      Bassist Jim Kale got the rights to the band name in the late 70s and had enough of a friendship with Peterson to allow him to do tours. Only way Burton and Randy could tour as the GW is when they had to pay Kale. Burton got his revenge by basically refusing allow the songs he wrote to be played live because Burton felt the current like (a.k.a. "Kale's Clones") was misleading fans by using the original tunes in promotional material and making them think that Burton was with the group. The current GW has had to cancel shows because of it.

      @@garyrasberryjr.552 good,. I hope they cancel everything. They have a right to perform, but not while stealing Randy and Burt's songs.

    I’m not exactly familiar with The Guess Who. But the piano player reminds me a bit of Jerry Lee Lewis, is I believe the guy. Sadly though, I think this gentleman didn’t get along nearly as well with his cousins. Something about a rift in the family I believe.

      That's Burton Cummings on piano and vocals, one of the great voices of classic rock. And I'm sure he'd be highly complimented with your mention of Jerry Lee. His playing draws deeply from those early pioneers.

    The Guess Who isn’t the Guess Who without Randy Bachman, and while it’s distinctively Burton Cummings taking on the vocals and the keys and flute as usual, he looks kinda weird in this 70s setting with the beard and cropped haircut there.

      Google the band name, a former lesser member who weaseled the copyright to the name has a different group of musicians out there billed as the Guess Who. Just this week Burton said he eschewed his royalties to the music to make them stop the misrepresentation. Hopefully it works out for the best.

      Kurt Winter, on stage here, co-wrote many, many songs after Randy left. Sour Suite, Rain Dance, Running Back to Saskatoon, Clap for the Wolfman, Albert Flasher, Heartbroken Bopper,

      I'm a big, big fan of Randy but there were some really excellent songs -- and hits! -- from the Kurt Winter era, too.
