- After a variety of technical travails, we're back. Twice as long for twice the wait!
This is the third episode of my walkthrough tutorial for earning the FOXHOUND Rank in MGS3. In this video, we observe strategies for making it through Chyornyj Prud, Bolshaya Past South, Bolshaya Past Base, and the figure versus Young Ocelot.
We will also look at the mechanics of dogs and hold ups. - เกม
I swear the realism in this game is insane, I've been playing this for 15 years already and it seems like the ammount of mechanics is infinite, you can always learn new ways to approach situations, is just incredible
Thank you! I am considering doing something like this for Sons of Liberty, though that would be a ways off. Thanks for letting me know that there's interest out there for it.
You should do it for MG, MG2SS, MGS, MGS2, MGS4, MGSPO, MGSPW, MGSVGZ and MGSVTPP.
You probably don't read this anymore, but damn good playlist. It's like watching a surgeon explain an operation.
I do keep up with it, in fact! Thank you for your kind words. I'm really happy that this super nerdy dive into a 16 year old game still has relevance for people.
@@ShockleyHaynes Wow, yeah, this is a gem of a game which I need to Foxhound one day.
you sound like "miller" in mgs1 doing a riddler impression
+bjbseperd subbed
Who in their right mind would "dislike" this tutorial? It was funny as Hell.
9 years later this is still a fantastic resource for me trying to improve at the game, nice Godhand reference
really informative videos. I appreciate that you spend the time teaching everyone the AI systems and the game mechanics so we know what to do when we improvise.
I love your attention to detail. i especially loved that little rant you had about the cure codec animations.
mgs3 is my favorite game so its nice to see this guide.
Most amazing thing I saw Metal Gear related on the whole world wide web. And it's funny too!
This is Rodney and please don’t stop doing these videos because they are really helpful and thank you very much and have a wonderful blessed day
Thank you for the dog mechanics man! I never understood everything about them until now! Keep up the good work!
man these must have been so much work really appreciate the effort dude!
This is honestly one of the best and most comprehensive guides for MGS 3. Helped me beat the game on my first run just from all the options he gives for each scenario.
cheers mate, this is exactly the stage i'm at, and i'm about to freely admit that after around 100 playthroughs on the PS2 and about my 10th on the HD collection i never realized that the L1 button can be used for lock on hahaha, this explaines no end of past failures of mine ;p
Ahaha, the Godhand music fits perfectly, but...
"You're not Alexander!"
This wasn't how to get pass the dogs part but more like how to train your dog... Anyway, this was brilliant as an idea and really interesting! I didn't know so much details about this particular part... Actually, i had never thought of that because this never really bothered me... The whole strategy and advice thing was impressive! Excellent job!
James Howell, you have done it again. Interesting video all the wsy throug. Very informative. A lot of time invested and effort. Thank your uploading these incredible videos. I have a lot admiration for you for letting us know how we can take advantage of different things here and there. This is very enjoyable. Congratulations!
8 years after and your videos still helping people :3
You, Sir, are a treasure trove of knowledge.
Wow, you're really good at this game.
I learned quite a bit watching these videos, how to get empty magazines, distracting the dogs with food, punching guys in the kidneys, all stuff I didn't know about. And I played through this game about four times.
Props to you.
Lol like the dam Benny Hill show in Snake style when he went on rampage after holding up every1 xD
These videos are truly amazing. I will probably never attempt any kind of speed run but these facts can be used on any kind of playthrough. And very good video editing, sir. You obviously put a lot of time into these videos and if these were made when MGS3 was still a recent title, you would be hailed as a Snake Eater Guru. No doubt.
41:00 this posture can also be found in the cave level right before the pain boss fight in the area when you grab the m37 shotgun right before the opening when you get to crawl to get the snow camo
Your voice is perfect for videos like these.
seems like this guy have dissected this game to no end, very nice, especially since ive been doing the same learning how far enemies can see you and such
This guy is the chuck noris of mgs 3
Fucking love it!!
You are a legend among those who live on the battlefield
At 40:50, there is actually a 2nd area where you can do that. When you enter the second cave area before The Pain fight, take the right path that goes to the Snow Uniform, in the big open room, run up against the crawling space entrance. He'll do the bending and you can constantly run while he bends.
The amount of minute detail in this game is amazing.
I was going to watch this anyway due to how informative it is, but the God Hand music? that wins you a sub for being awesome.
You know man, I never even knew you could knock on walls and shit...... 11/10
That's been in the games since at least mgs1.
Hat Man oh sir that's been in the game since Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake you punched walls to attract guards.
You also punched elevator buttons to open them which attracted guards also. FUN FACTS
whoops
These videos are AWESOME!
Why did I never think to use food on dogs? It is so obvious, but I never thought to do it. Man, Gronyj Grad would have been so much easier to escape from if I hadn't been so dumb.
Great videos mate!!! This may sound really weird but you sound like christian bale in American Psycho! If you haven't seen it you should, the likeliness is uncanny!
Also there is a op trick in the 3ds version where if you use the Photo Camo and take a picture of water you can get camo in water up to 85% while swimming and 100% while just staying still
I know it's been a while for you, but I can't get my ps2 to work and your videos are really scratching that metal gear itch, hope you do more some day
simply beautiful! I love your video :)
34:10 Ahh that music. You must also be a fan of God Hand! :D
Great video as always. In a future video, would you consider going over in more detail how CQC works? Granted I may just be a complete idiot, but I remember never being able to make heads or tails of the in-game explanations, and any attempt at using CQC resulting in little more than accidental alerts, frustration and tears.
Loving these.
38:26
"Patrol here, we're under enemy fire, enemy's position is unknown!"
ARGHAHHGHAHGHAGHHGH-
AHGHGHGHHGHGH-
I shared your nightmares, but when I was much younger. Some of the scariest nightmares I had as a young child were falling in a swamp filled with crocodiles. D:
You should have grabbed the Splitter Camo to show how it can make things easier in Groznyj Grad.
I hope one day you'll once more make videos like this one
I was too much pissed about this mission so i just let all of them sleep
I am pretty sure that: 1 knock AND 2 knocks mean a guard will walk slow, 3 knocks and he comes running. If you shoot/tranquilize a dog and guard hears it, it counts as one "knock".
I used to love holding up a single man and shooting his radio hahaha, his reaction when he realises its broken is priceless
There's so much more to the ocelot fight. Shooting the hornet's nest on his side, shooting the goat on his side and shooting his beret will each distract him. Also, if you go on new game+ and get the revolver, when the quick draw duel occurs, spin the revolver by turning around the right analogue stick. He'll commend you and do the same thing. Another opportunity to shoot him
Damn these videos are informative.
Love it
Genius.
Thanks.
The dogs going into deep sleep after having meat is just precious.
Very great job. I liked so much your videos. Can you please make some videos like these of sons of liberty and peace walker
The crocs have the most brutal kill in this game
If I recall correctly, guards which you leave standing won't react to you leaving if you they don't hear your footsteps.
40:45 curiously also Snake does the same pose in the cave where you find the M63, so there are only 2 locations in the game where he has that posture
The Best
It's funny how I'm not even planning to finish MGS3 in FOXHOUND rank yet but yet I still watch this. Must be because this is extremely well made and it also includes comical relief every now and then. My only complaint about this is that you've made so many ways to proceed in the game and most of them are pretty much rendered useless in a FOXHOUND run. Just show us the most efficient way with alternatives when you think it's necessary. Don't get me wrong though, I still appreciate the effort.
Your voice for whatever reason reminds me of the narrator from the show "How its Made." XD
Hi! At minutes: 40:00 you said that Snake under the elicopter go on a strange posture, thats right, but is not only there! Before you fight with The Pain, in the tunnel into the right, there is theat point where you find the shotgun...there is a low roof...so snake use the same posture! check it out! And thanks for the video is very amazing! :)
I forgot to get the leeches off.now im screwed.
If u beat the game with leeches in you, the reward is a leech ranking!
Found it, thanks
Mechanics for holding up guards laying down is pretty much the same in MGSV.
Those Indian gavials gave me nightmares just by looking at them.
Is that why you gave what appears to be a yellow croc avatar? ;^)
James, another quick question, I hope you don't mind. Can you use bug juice to keep the leeches off? Will it negate the Foxhound Rank? Also, I can't find it online, I assume you would be the one to know, but is there a limit on meals eaten/animals killed that would negate Foxhound Rank?
Great video as always, I wouldn't have made it this far without your help.
I haven't read anything about bug juice, so I assume it will not negate the rank.
Thank you, I appreciate the responses
So Boss!
Instead of checking for the leeches, you can put on your repellent.
I used to knock the guards out and putting them against electrified fences😂
ty
I never knew you could shoot underwater.....
This guy is a fucking genius
I didn't quite catch this detail, but where exactly is the first save after the Ocelot unit fight? Before Young Ocelot I presume?
kikujiroChan=MGS2 god.
So wait.... Do we save before the Ocelot fight? I died in middle of the fight and had to re-do everything from the ocelot unit fight... Kinda annoying if you ask me...
I would love that too. huehue
BrainSeepsOut You can use them in the new one, and in MGS4 to an extent.
May I please ask what the name of the song was that played during your hold-up rampage?
3:35 where can I see these videos in the 3DS version?
idk If you covered this already, but what is the importance of 1 knock vs 2 knocks?
I didn't know guards don't stand up when on the ground hold up, that's kinda overpowered
this is overly informative, thank you
I decided to go back into my library and play the old MGS games and try for top ranking. I seem to be stuck on my foxhound run. How do you hit Ocelot when firing from the hip. It seems to be random that Snake will actually aim at a target in front of him, even if he's facing exactly in their direction and they're in the middle of the screen unless I use first person, which has lead to a series of me dying and needing to start the entire section all over. Any advice or tips on how to get the hip fire to not just random shots in the general direction that Snake is facing?
I think my favorite happening is when a hold up fails because the enemy soldier is standing about where the end of the barrel would be, he centered in the screen, and when I hit the button to bring up the weapon Snake, instead of aiming at the person right in front of his face, aims just to the side of them and they turn around and alert. Though I guarantee my distance is correct, I've gotten very good and judging distance, just not at getting Snake to actually aim at targets without using first person every singe time I want to aim at or even hit a specific target.
Yeah! Run into the open and hold L1. This will auto aim Snake's gun, and Ocelot is the only target. Ocelot is hard to hit as a moving target, so wait until he's in one spot before firing.
Thanks for the tip! That fight was getting so annoying. I thought L1 just locked the camera in the direction Snake was facing, didn't remember/realize it also aimed. Great videos BTW!
Excellent! And thank you very much!
i took him on in 1st person view haha didnt know about the lock on euro extrm sucked
if you kill the dogs can you still get foxhound
interrobang skater Yeah. Foxhound rank only checks the human people. So you can kill dogs and other animals.
Yep, so does cutscene time.
have you tried speedrunning this game ?
in the ps2 version the soldiers never seem to go after the food, you throw it and it makes a pop sound they check it out, they look left and right and go "nothing here" i even through one right at the guy! all he did was detect me!
Blow up a food storehouse, leave the area and return and they're guaranteed to see food from a mile away
it wasn't put in the 3DS version.
as you enter that area you have to swim keeping to the left of the map, about halfway across the water you swim under a log to reach the side where you climb the tree, this is all before you reach the electric fence stage and there are only 2 ways past this swamp map so it shouldn't have been hard to find.
Wheres episode 6
So why cigar instead of bug juice? For the hornets I mean.
Tim Peters Style!
James Howell ah I see.
in the 3ds version you can beat ocelot with the m1911a1 and not kill him
I know you will not get the camo but it won't count as a kill in the data
why equp the cigar ?
leonardo alcantara Because it looks cool. That's all there is to it. Apart from it draining your health, which if you're aiming to speedrun it can be handy in the Sorrow's bossbattle.
it's to keep the horrnets away
Holy crap! I'd've never thunk....
He is kind of a nerd but he is cool
Peace Walker is so easy that there's no need for a guide really.
not a stupid question, and nope. the only thing that counts is human kills
Hmm... he slaughters snakes without a second thought at the start of video, but when it comes to dogs, his conscience won't let him kill them. Double standards in our current culture are ever present. I admit, I feel more attached to a dog then most other carnivorous animals, but I try to weigh their lives equally. Nonetheless, great work man!
wouldn't fish be better they rot faster? jw
