- WATCH IN 720P.
This is the seventh episode of my walkthrough tutorial for earning the FOXHOUND Rank in MGS3. In this video, we review food strategies in the forest before moving up to the mountain. In higher altitudes, we'll look at the different timing and responses that guards have when stunned versus when put to sleep. We'll check out a scale model of Groznyj Grad and then head into the mountain where we fight this video's concluding boss, The Fury.
There are exactly five mistakes and two social awkwardnesses in this video. Catch them all to receive a FOXHOUND Rank video walkthrough FLORXHOUND Rank!
Thanks to Brady Hartel for helping with the video production on this one! Also thanks to Cuba, Kilroy, and Parker of Selectbutton.net for advice on the additional round in Snake's magazine.

The sound effect used during the accelerated time to measure guard KO duration is the elevator sound from Impossible Mission on the C64. - เกม
It's so adorable that the guards will actually say "munchies" sometimes.
Whereas in a modern game you'd be looked down on for not "doing your research" and making them say "scoff" or "scran."
The fireproof box is even funnier when you consider you CAN lose them to fire quite easily in the previous game.
These videos are criminally underviewed. By far the best instructional video series on any topic I've ever seen. You would be an absolutely brilliant teacher.
Even if you don't complete this series, what you've already put up is worthy of much more recognition than you've gotten. Bravo, sir!!!
We need more guys like him in our lives.
So, I ran out of suppressors? And this walkthrough helped me get through here with CQC and no alerts or kills. You're awesome, dude.
I think the moss camo can be justified because it's not just normal moss, it's Big Moss.
...I'm so sorry.
No, you have to live with that one. Lean into the punch.
The reason Snake gets an extra round in his gun is cause he knows how to manually put a round in through the ejection port(loading gate?) if you remember it's a technique that Ocelot tried before he switched to a revolver but he was a bit rubbish at it, in codec calls it's revealed that Snake knows a lot about this technique so it isn't unreasonable that he uses it himself
If you keep first person view when canceling the nagant iirc you can still have your crosshairs in the same place, making it possible to chain 3 nagant shots in a row without moving on an elevated level.
These videos are so incredibly informative and enjoyable to watch. I absolutely hope that there will be an eighth episode just because of how factual and sometimes funny these Foxhound videos are (my personal favorite moment probably being "I'm Alexander the Great!")
Yep he should finish it as well do you agree
Zesharn Khan Absolutely.
Colin Love cool
This series changed how I play Metal Gear. Even though I got my FOXHOUND rank ages ago I still check in for these because they're so good.
I always love these videos because, even if I'm nowhere near good enough to play on EE, I can pick up a trick or two for normal play. For instance, I never knew you could blow up food sheds, so I got to try that in Graniny Gorki a few days ago. A bit later, when picking up the Fly uniform in the bathroom, I punched out the poisonous spider on the wall. As I'm exciting the area, I hear a guard suffering food poisoning. In other words, the guard ate the poisonous spider. Brilliant guard AI there.
This is by far the best MGS3 tutorial that I've ever seen. Not only do you show different ways of taking on the areas and boss battles effectively but you also explain them in great detail and give reasons for using the various strategies rather than just leaving us viewers guessing by just watching you play. Thus I think this walkthrough is invaluable for everyone who wants to beat this game on basically every difficulty. Thank you very much for your dedication and ambition.
That part at about 19:55 or so it's beautiful ... I'll never take another ladder in MGS for granted again thank you! LOL great videos I'm actually learning things about MGS 3 and I've beaten in SO MANY TIMES I wasn't aware of there being much more for me to learn about it.
The ladder part brought tears of historic and figurative joy to my MGS battle hardened eyes, thank you Sir, kudos awarded liberally.
You can keep the scope of the Mosin Nagant steady during tactical reload by holding R1 (first person view button) throughout your shot and reload. This allows you to unload 3 rifle rounds in quick succession and knock The Fury over without having to adjust the aim.
Holy crap, I have never heard or seen such a guide that goes into the mechanics of a game. The different strategies and the CQC tutorials helped a lot and this video helped me with the mountain and the Fury. Good job man.
This is the most profoundly detailed walkthrough I have ever seen. Well done!
On the mountainside, on Hard, there is definitely a guard at that first switchback who walks down the path shortly after Snake enters. Can't think of another instance in which a guard is *removed* from an area on Extreme. I always felt this area was a clear reward for getting the Nagant - the nook with the cobra to the left of the mountainside entrance has a perfect perch to eliminate all the guards on that side of the map, far enough away so the report isn't heard. Then, the guard on the topmost path gives Nagant ammo on his first shakedown.
AMAZING as always buddy!
These are amazing. I greatly appreciate that you not only cover a good route for the emblem, but you cover multiple routes that are all valid instead of just focusing on the optimum playstyle.
That on top of going over game mechanics and AI priority has taught me so much compared to when I played this game last in 2007.
I can't wait to go through this guide again and compare it to Delta.
The ladder section was phenomenal
This is amazingly thorough for a playthrough. I've browsed a few MGS3 foxhound rank walkthroughs and playthroughs but they all fall short to yours - either the players who do them brag silently about their skills in the game or their explanations are so poor that you abandon their playthroughs halfway.
Yours contains explanations, glitches and general knowledge that make a daunting task such as obtaining the foxhound rank very enjoyable. Thank you.
Your voice is so soothing, i love it!
ikr
The ladder segment with the editing was very funny! Your dry, intelligent sense of humor is excellent!
Absolutely amazing videos. I also highly enjoy your eloquent commentary that's so well worded to the point that it becomes an elegant piece of prose. Thx for the great work.
lmao the ladder montage is a work of art. you have such a good sense of humor, it works really well with your dry, educational tone.
If you destroy the food sheds, then the guards will be hungry. This lowers their starting stamina, so you can knock them out just by rolling into them. This also makes them go after rotten food items that you throw so that they'll get stomach cramps.
I cant believe that the grass animation in MGS3 is still better than many games in PS4 and other last gen consoles. Nice walkthrough!
This is great man! I normally don't bother watching these nor leave comments, especially when videos are longer then 10 minutes. I love your sense of humour! ='D
James, you have made us followers, addicted to your videos. From my humble position, I want to thank you 4 these videos and how much information you give, besides the funny commentaries that, in such a professional description of the video, are so hilarious. Im in the desperate position of expecting more videos, though I know with more New games, it's less probable for MGS to get another, but I still have hope!
Fantastic addition to a fantastic walkthrough.
Also, I highly approve of the usage of Katamari Damacy music.
I see you're a fellow man of depression with that punpun avi.
Random but I wanted to state that.
James, your walkthrough is the best one i've ever seen (and i seen, and made few of them...), but still incomplete - please do the rest of the game in this style!!:)
cant wait for the next episode James - thanks for the effort that went into these vids.
Thank you very much! The next episode is in production right now. :)
Thank you so much from these instructional videos! They've helped me alot in crafting of different techniques and discovering tactics I havent thought before. Keep doing more of these :). Ps: these kind of profound instructional walk-through videos are pretty rare. Most of them just show video footage of a walk-through without a proper explanation of the game itself.
This is such a nice thing to say. Thank you!
37:00 The guard points the RPG, prepares to shoot, then thinks about what would happen if he shot snake with a rocket launcher that close to himself and decides to take out his knife instead hahahaha
Great video! Your work is greatly appreciated!
You are brilliant. Do you have a straight playthrough with your favorite method/style? I'd love to see that!
That's was really helpful. Thanks, mate. I've been through this fight on EE and it was impossible for me to find a good strategy, understand mechanics of IA and the tips (like the box) for this battle. 🙇
Watching the ladder with different music was surreal
This is the best MGS3 walkthrought.
Awesome work, thanks for making this
Very interesting videos, thanks for making these
The greatness of the metal gear cardboard box. 👌🏽
Snare trap interlude music was therapeutic
Love your videos. And Snake is definitely a wizard.
You're doing such a great job... i couldn't help but subscribe.
Also, you should make a youtube playlist for this guide.
Lol. You explain the GRU soldiers so well that you make THEM sound hard.
That random staircase fall at the end of the ladder segment. XD
I think it would be very helpful if you made a video about tactical reload, including a sub-window like in your CQC video. I tend to bungle tactical reloads. Great videos by the way! I'm not playing on extreme mode yet but these tips make normal mode very easy :)
I'm so glad I found your channel
Hell, found myself cracking my balls at 5am. Excellent writing, kept me wake all night.
9:09 hahaha, god tier commentary
thank you James!!!!!!!
Thank you so helpful
Awesome Fury strats. I prefer no scoping with Nagant though.
Waiting for this for like ever HELL YES
Rofl at the "thats why they call him THE BOSS".... over the nineth bullet of the Mrk 22. I hope you make the last videos for the final chapters of mgs3
you are awesome.. nice guide :)
When you said "In the Material realm" I started getting really hype because I thought the followup was gonna be "In the Spectral realm"
hanging snake looks like hes going to spit at the chest and hatch into a beautiful butterfly
Your voice sounds very...informative.
It has to do with how rotten the food actually is. In the items menu, if there's one fly on the icon it's only semi-rotten. Two flies means it's fully rotten and has the effects shown in the video.
Ohhhhhhhh that katami song, so beautiful. uwu
1:04:55 "you can actually Sni~pe them!" adolescence voice~ XD
Just curious; what is your opinion about using the Animal Camo through the mountain location? It gives exceptional camo index there, but would that be not be ideal for the strategies displayed?
I hate the fury
These videos should have appeared in the third disk of the Subsistence release.
Damn, if I knew that cardboard box doesn't catch on fire my first playthrough would have been so much easier
ALL HAIL THE BOX!
Did I miss something or didn't you say in a previous part you were going to show a run up the mountain where you blew up the helicopter at that first outpost, causing the choppers to be replaced by those flying crafts?
I did say that! But I forgot and then finished the project.
James Howell Well, it all worked out well in the end anyway, funny enough I'm actually watching pt9 right now to see how you handle the roller coaster of events that is the climax of the game, inception ftw!
Question, does going into the Survival Viewer and/or Radio freeze the playtime count or does it keep going?
I wish I had a cardboard box like this!
You are so amazing.
This is like Nat Geo Wild XD!
I like your voice James.
Please do more please I need more foxhound walkthrough videos
The playtime keeps rolling at all times.
Just coming back 8 years later, having achieved a Foxhound rank for the first time to say; Yeah, 5 hours combined with the amount of 25 save files is beyond the perfecrt amount of time & saves to make Foxhound no issue at all.
ADDED
waiting for ep 8 :)
I just happened to fight The Fury today (only on normal though, just getting Markhor rank for the trophy) and I pretty much locked him in place by delaying my shots with the Nagant, does his response to getting hit change in EE? Wondering if it'd work for when I attempt Foxhound rank :3
Well, now I'm on The Furi and I've had about 20 attempts to eventually defeat him non-lethally. I must say he's really RNG-based and the only way that seems to work well enough for me is to prone near the north red door so he's extremely unlikely to hit you. Even if he does, it doesn't matter that much to the point that you'll find a life-med in need. But on the Euro Ex difficulty, I don't know whether this works.
I like video
Metal Gear school
with Professor Howell
quick question. how many metal gear solid games have you beaten on extreme?
I'm having problems defeating the fury... I forgot to pick up the End's sniper so I'm stuck with the mk22... Tactical reload doesn't go well with first person view, and I end up having to take 1 or 2 shots at a time... Any suggestions?
Oh my God, the Fury is SO hard. I hate that boss battle. Which says a lot because I love fighting the End.
I guess I hated Vulcan Raven too, I guess. I just feel so helpless and psyched out during these fights, especially when they start following me,
Try running to to end where you exit and constantly patrol the ends of the hallways. The Fury should be a bit easier.
we need moar! so gud.
How did you knock them out with the rotten food? I have MGS3: S, and it just stunned them for a bit like here, but without the KO.
By the way James, when is more MGS3 videos coming?
Why doesn't this vid have as many views as the rest?
when are u making part 8 of this walkthrough?
IS THAT JIM BROWN!!!?
Is the fury anybody else's favorite boss
By the way, you forgot to mention that you can shoot the pipes to put out the lingering flames scattered about. Although it's not too helpful overall.
Did you make this strategies by yourself?
Can someone tell me how to keep my stamina from falling so low without eating? Thats my biggest problem for a foxhound run.
There are radio frequencies that will replenish half your stamina when you call them. Getting the moss camo from The End by holding him up is also a big help because standing in direct sunlight or artificial light replenishes your stamina slowly. On a quick play through you will need to call about three or four times before getting the camo. There are 8 total I believe.
Imagine MGS without EVA betray, only 1 game
He makes European extreme look So easy
Why are you focused on destroying food sheds ?
Is there any reason behind it ?
When is your next episode coming out?
