14:20 That's not Roy's neutral special, that's his neutral air! You silly goose. You misspoke, and now you've been corrected. This is what you deserve.
I think the gyro disappearing might be based on the amount of wall or ground bounces with upsmashes it only hits the roof and might not count as a bounce and side smash makes it bounce everywhere, you can also see when it bounces for the final time it bounces up a little despite having downwards momentum (this might be caused by the wind but it still looks weird)
14:04 Mythra’s neutral special used to have the weight-ignoring property too, potentially as a reference to the attack it’s based on in Xenoblade 2 ignoring defense. They removed that in the patch after Pythra came out though, so it might have just been an oversight
Fun fact the gyro damage as to do with its rotation speed not so much the damage done to it. For example you can have a gyro spin next to a hydrant and it will fly like crazy doing insane damage to whatever it hits. This is why the 500 up smashes from Kazuya did almost the same, the speed you send it was almost consistent and minimum compared for exemple when you foward smash it around or hit roy's neutral b. If you want more information abou this, Beefy Smash Doods have an episode in smash review where they tested this.
Another tournament viable example is against sephiroth. His octaslash (up b) has absurdly high knockback on the connecting hits. If you shoot gyro at him, the multihits will accelerate gyro into him at Mach 5, killing him unreasonably early.
@bucketfullabiscuits7865 You're right. I completely forgot about sephiroth up b. The fisrt hit of the octoslash pulls characters in with insane knockback. I have seen that kill at the ledge while sephiroth is recovering, it killed the player ledgetraping at around 50%
Gyro is especially useful against K. Rool's blunderbuss, specifically if they try to suck 'n' cuck you off stage Octaslash of course also kills easily, but one that most don't see much is an extension of hydrant, where if a Pacman drops the apple and it happens to connect with the gyro and THAT then gets pushed by the hydrant water, it instakills Pacman at 0
the gyro despawned when testing with ganondorf because it hit the walls too many times, as opposed to when you tested with kazuya where it stood perfectly upright in the air, there's a bump limit sorta thing involved though I don't know the specifics, it also works with other similar items
I had noticed how much better your clips fit into the short video format, but I didn't realize it was because you were re-dubbing them! Thanks for always going the extra mile for us.
Kazuya’s reflector is so high probably because it’s an advancing move tied to a button input that, unless buffered, forces you into a dash toward the projectile, making it by default harder to pull off, risking a hit. Min Min’s up smash can be charged and done in place easier, and a lot of other reflectors are tied to special moves that can be done on the ground and the air, making them all safer options.
Hey PKBeats, I randomly found out that jumping from the edge of a stage or platform has different physics than a regular jump. I’m not sure if this had to do with the teeter animation, but with 3 jump spirits Luigi’s jump off the lower Battlefield platform barely got him over the highest platform, while a regular short hop took him to the blast zone. Would love to see you cover this!
Thats because a regular jump stops your momentum after a certain amount of time while shorthops dont, you can see this in regular smash. Pretty sure its been covered but maybe you want an explanation
The jumps you're referring to are usually called "coyote jumps". The game lets you jump for a short window after leaving a platform/edge, without consuming your double jump, plus skipping jumpsquat. For whatever reason, these jumps ignore stat changes from spirits. Their basic physics are close but not identical to a fullhop or an IDJ
@@ascaredmilipede7971 they mention a jump off the platform which only took them to the highest platform. All the jumps they talk about seem to be performed with jump spirits, with both “regular” forms of jumping sending them to the blast zone
i love that you take the time to do these things, and i hope the devs watch your videos and adjust the game accordingly for the sequel (if there is one being worked on)
@@velvetbutterfly The reflector limits are based on how much damage the projectile currently does, so I don't think you could get around them by using more characters.
Happy to hear the channel is crushing it! I always look forward to your videos, they have just the right amount of smash content combined with humor. I used to watch your BotW vids, so if you do decide to move on I look forward to watching those too!
I don't know what is about this style of video, but it's so soothing to my brain. I feel like science videos shown in school should be made the same way
The missing link here is that the gyro’s damage and knockback is determined by *speed*. You can test this with sephiroth up b. His multihits do little damage, but have incredibly high knockback. If you edgeguard a sephiroth with gyro, they can octaslash it into themself and DIE, like comically early. Although I didn’t know about gyros “taking damage” and flying further, that’s really strange and pretty much can’t affect gameplay for how little time it exists.
15:08 Weight-independent knockback always treat the character as having 100 weight (i.e. Mario/"normal" weight.) Super Mushrooms and Metal status directly reduce knockback in addition to increasing weight which is why they still affect these moves; it has nothing to do with whether the weight is changing mid-match.
I don't know if you knew already, I haven't watched every video of this series afterall, but a random side fact I found is that the AI completely shuts off when you go into the pause menu in training mode, to the point that they just drop all the way down and die when they're over a gap while you open the pause menu.
Hi, a smash bros. fact that I discovered while playing custom smash is that by placing the fight mini and light and use a floaty spirit + two lightweight spirits Luigi's tornado will go upward. I tried different spirit combinations and that spirit combination seemed to be the most effective. It will go even higher if Luigi is even smaller. The height is not as high as smash 4, tough.
Characters KO'ing slightly earlier/later from the weight independent moves likely has to do with model size. Larger characters are far more likely to touch the blastzone earlier because their model clips the blastzone sooner, and the opposite goes for the smaller characters.
I just wanted to offer an idea for you since I know you wanted to do non-Smash content. You mentioned at the end of the video that you've had surprising success on shorts. I think if you put stuff from your 2 TotK videos about localization differences, it might do well. I'm not a successful TH-camr, so take this with a grain of salt, but it might be a good idea. And if you do try it, good luck!
You can actually a gyro to do around 80 in a competitive setting! You just need it to get pushed by both Pac-Man’s hydrant and water at the same time, iirc
I somehow survived a hit as rob at around 150 against a hero forward smash crit by something happening with gyro. I wish I saved a replay but I went absolutely nowhere after getting hit.
Now I'm curious if the moves that ignore weight can get early kills in the various spirit battles that increase the opponent's weight through size, metal, or just handicaps.
Question from a small creator unfamiliar with TH-cam - do you get "copyright claim"s on your videos for using Nintendo music? If I upload a video that uses background music from any game/etc, it gives me a "copyright claim" that claims it won't affect the video/my channel, and doesn't count as a strike, but is a copyright claim. Just wanted to hear if that's how it works for other channels too
