Steam Power looks great. I always loved RotW and AoS but having something of that ilk but a bit lighter and plays in an hour sounds awesome!
Yeah I'm very interested in it for those reasons
I think one significant warning sign about the Ninjas Unleashed game might be their
estimated delivery in August of 2024 - that's about 6 months after the campaign.
There's also Geoff Engelstein's old The Ares Project in the realm of efforts to make an RTS board-game.
(And I don't know much about Mech Command RTS, but it does have RTS in the name.)
Good calls
36:12 It was "Dominate & Delegate" (I saw someone asking about it in the Knee Deep forum on BGG).
No support for Dice Tomes since creator was heavily involved in failed Village Attacks: Grim Dynasty campaign. Now other creator has purchased the license for that to provide pnp for backers and potentially coming back to KS to finish the project.
Amen to that statement! Adam, who was a major contributor and part of the Village Attacks series and the GG company, is taking no blame for his part in the train wreck! Now he has another company and expects people to buy his stuff....no thanks. He says he still wants to be part of the gaming industry but I think he needs to do something else for a living.....like Mythic Games, sometimes you just burn too many folks to not taint your reputation permanently.
I neglected to add another major culprit to the bad gaming companies.....Peterson Games, I recommend everyone stay clear of his crowdfunding projects....he is doing exactly what Mythic Games was doing....raising money from new projects to pay for prior projects that are LONG overdue.
The choose your own adventure Martin Wallace game is Fighting Fantasy - late pledge is still available and I'm tempted by that and Steam Power based on how well Bloodstones turned out.
I've been watching this channel for a while. And it didn't hit me until now that Alex's speed talking is because of... Too Much Coffee!
You mean not enough coffee
@@BoardGameCo - How is Coffee Roaster not in your Top 10 Games of All Time?
I tried Knee Deep in Hexes at Essen Spiel and the gameplay is really amazing! Worth checking it out!
You had me at the end, that's a great one! 😂
Luckily not too much temptation from this batch, will likely just be backing Ludos
I love Studio Agate and so the Tainted Grail RPG was an instant back for me at the deluxe level (plus the character add-on). They produce amazing work and are head and shoulders above the rest of the creators in the RPG space from my purview.
Looking into Steam Power as hopefully easier game entry for those non-game people. Age of Steam (as much as I like it) has a curve that my casual friends and family just found too complex to learn. And Diceomatic? Looks just too cool not to get. Who doesn't want to roll up (pun intended) to a table with that fun mechanism? My only concern is how long before the mechanics start to wear, collect dust in the mechanism, etc. and the same results start appearing? It is bound to happen with anything that has gears. Great job as always with the insight in your videos.
31:17 It also had a completely different vibe to it - being a fantasy game, while this is a train game.
Cannot decide with steam power if i want the premium version or not. its such an ugh moment!
I have always found that in the end, I wanted the Deluxe version of a game even if more than I wanted to spend. The components are just too nice in Age of Steam, and even in Trailblazer The John Muir Trail. In the aftermarket, that's what people will look for if you decide to get rid of it.
I agree with @michaelorona. I'll also add that it is generally better to wait for retail if you decide not to invest in the deluxe tier. You will save money, avoid any risk with your investment, and have an opportunity to see reviews of the finished product before making your purchase decision.
When I see "multi, team, solo & coop" I think this is going to be an arena battle type game, or something like warhammer. It's a game where you set up a skirmish, you have a goal, and you can do it co-operatively or competitively and make up the teams however you want. I think there's def a lot of games that hit this target, most people probably don't think of them that way...
Love this series. Conservas is the top one for me. May be cheaper later, but I’m ok with the cost given it likely comes quicker and I’m good with supporter these folks.
2 boards, 285 wooden pieces, 133 track and city tiles, plus cards and currency
tokens... Do you think the retail price for Steam Power could land below $40?
39:02 Like the Tidal Blades universe!
Another good instance of this
Would you be able to cover Forks 2nd edition next week?
Any chance we might see some more content from you regarding Cyberpunk 2077: Gans of Night City? (Looks nice in the background)
Regarding the question of the week, I believe most Backers go on these platforms for something that fits their game group. Something that does everything probably gets overlooked for other options with more focus on the right direction for the backer
28:13 It's A LOT lighter... NOT A LITTLE lighter...
Potato potato
Absolutely agree on the "if they are selling multiple modes, chances are none of them are good'. Even just marketing a game as having both cooperative and competitive modes is a huge turnoff for me.
I passed on this big game (Ascendancy? ) cause they were selling it as the end all, be all. It does make me think you won't be able to do anything well, or some things will be good and others will stink
11:24 I don't see why having hired an artist is an indication of competence.
(Getting AI to generate art that works for you might be some indication of
competence.) Also, I'd assume AI isn't handling the graphic design of the
components, so there may be room to see competence there (or the services
of a graphic designer may have been used). In any case, competence in one
field isn't necessarily a predictor of competence in another.
27:47 Steam Power is a lot lighter game than the others - there is no bidding, for one thing - and there is also no moving your trains. The game is basically about putting down routes and claiming the chokepoints, so that you make your opponents pay you to get there - but you can also just stay away from your opponent(s) and so your own thing (I watched Rahdo's [Kimberly's] playthrough, that's how I know).
I like Wallace's games, I like Euros, but it looks like 'just' a train game. Hard to justify the price.
28:49 You do know how many maps Age of Steam has, right?!
Lol yes
I dont play any RPGs or have any need for special dice but i just love dice. I think i will back the Dice Tomes because they look awesome. Also, i backed Ninjas Unleashed but cancelled my pledge. Like you said they are all over the place and i didnt have a good feeling for this campaign. I think funding goal was under 10k. Seems sketchy to me. Great content as always!
100% on the money alex! Very few if any games are best at more than 1 certain player count. Any game promoting they are good at everything i 100% have serious doubts at any player count
Yep, the combination of pledging to be the best at six different things while also using AI art, has me skeptical
Not To Back
More and more these days
42:58 As I said... Not only are they different games, they are COMPLETELY different games.
More people are interested in fantasy than trains. The theme is what draws more people in at first - as opposed to analyzing and seeing that game X and game Y have both have mechanisms A, B and C in common - and therefore are similar in these ways...
I am just saying.
Tell that to ticket to ride 🙂
@@BoardGameCoFor Ticket to Ride, it is different. They change up the settings/locations - and maybe add a few special rules - like The Heart of Africa, India, Switzerland, etc. maps do - but it is still pretty much the same game besides that (on a different map).
@@BoardGameCoI am just saying - that because things are different with regard to the themes, I would be careful trying to correlate based on the company’s past game…
I guess it's debatable if that joke worked, but I'll give it a pass :)
Nothing for me this week! Well, I am tempted by the new Trailblazers, but the only incentive (to me) to back is the dual-layer player boards for the deluxe version. But it's hard for me to justify the extra cost just for those player boards. Ah well.
I like the unique theme of Philharmonix, but I was turned off by the $1 VIP pre-order for the kickstarter.
Dante looks very cool, but I have such a huge backlog of campaign games, so I hopefully will show some restraint and not back it (I am one of the 20K people following the campaign).
See ya next time!
Multiple mode interest is dependent per game. Having a multi-player versus mode in a narrative game just doesn't interest me. But Arena the Contest pulled it off. Voidfall is one of my favorites, and it has competitive, co-op, solo, and does it incredibly well. But each mode stays true to the core game concepts.
Anachrony is an example that has a version that is easy to teach but has additional components that add to the complexity that are optional. In some cases, it is trying to appeal to 2 different audiences and does it well
Multiple mods doesn’t make me think none will be good. But I do think one might be good, and the others will be poor adaptations of the system.
There are exceptions but pretty hard to tell ahead of time
Nice I was thinking you will pick Dieson Crusoe... I will have a better look.
Next week... I will hide my wallet...
I can't collect Aeon's End after Astro Knights came out.
I get that, picking a lane makes sense
The joke who is not a joke :)
Darn. Didn’t pick my suggestion for the character name. Bummer. Too much Luna / Lunar / Moon naming. Seems on the nose. Oh well. I won’t vote so my bias isn’t involved. Good luck to those that offered suggestions
Sorry!
38:39 ...And Bloodstones is a COMPLETELY different game from Steam Power... So you have that - I can use that same argument against your hypothesis regarding Steam Power... I am just saying.
Oh I agree, but people do still have overlap with the same companies and same productions.
@@BoardGameCo There is overlap, but my point is that these are two (2) different situations. If I were to guess, I would hypothesize that Trailblazers will likely keep a greater percentage (%) of the backers from its prior campaign - the 1st Trailblazers game (same series - so the marketing, regardless of how similar/not similar the games actually are) - in comparison to the percentage (%) of people from the Bloodstones campaign (a fantasy wargame, which has been compared to Root) who are likely to come over to a train game (again, completely different genre from a fantasy wargame-ish type) - even if it is a game from the same publisher…
All I am saying is that these are two (2) quite different situations, so you are comparing apples 🍎 to oranges 🍊.
sneaky joke
Lol yep
... but they don't work ;)
Faster, please talk faster.
I'm trying!
