Fantastic video. 10000 days has always been my favorite tool album. Everything about it feels so profound. 10000 days in the fire is long enough, youre going home... hits me so hard every time
10,000 days is my 2nd favorite Tool album (behind Lateralus). so many great vocal moments in this album: jambi's "might as well be gone", 10k days "give me my wings", rosetta stoned "overwhelmed as one would be", right in two "lift an eye to heaven conscious of fleeting time" and so many more. I absolutely love this album, lyrically great, guitar is great, etc.
This album grew and grew on me. First I was like.. okay it has 2 or 3 great songs. But then Wings for marie sunk in, Rosetta Stoned, Right in Two… now it’s my favorite album, front to back it’s a masterpiece.
Rosetta Stoned is like tripping so hard that you cannot verbalize the epiphanies you have. The "rosetta stone" is the psychedelic that opens up new perceptions, and to be "rosetta stoned" is to fet to that point.
Wings 1 and 2 and Vigente Tres are played together to make one song. Suprised this wasn't mentioned. Great video. Amaazing album. Rosetta Stoned is my favorite too (well, maybe....Wings 2 is SOOOOOO good).
Your explanation is beautiful. Chefs kiss. For over 16 years I have only listened to Jambi, Lost Keys and Rosetta Stoned. Now 16 years, I am actually listening to the fully album all because of your explanation. Cheers buddy! Keep up the good work!
Easily my favorite TOOL album. I almost stopped watching when you had the audacity to call it the Bronze Medalist. A genuine masterpiece from start to finish, thank you for making this video nevertheless.
6:12 I take those lines as this: The dire tone of the guitar and bass when MJK says "what have I done" is the feeling you get when the realization sets in that someone is gone. He follows with "to be a son to an angel" because he realizes that it was a gift to have come from her.
I reckon the most beautiful line in TOOL's discography is both 'repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of its fleeting time here', tied with 'cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers/brothers' in schism. I looked down on 10,000 Days initially thinking it's only good track was The Pot, as did my dad but then i decided that TOOL wouldn't release a shitty album, ever. Gave this album a once-over, twice-over, thrice-over... holy crap this is one of the best. I actually rank this one above Ænima, just because it has slightly less filler (15 songs?! wait nono it's more like 9 or 10 real songs)... and nothing that isn't on lateralus compares to some of these tracks, with the exception of 46&2, jimmy and pushit. amazing video bro, you deserve more than 1.31K subscribers. (can you please do ...And Justice For All next please?) Onya!
I like how you concluded your analysis with "I don't know." To me that is the foremost character of a wise man - the ability to admit he does not know everything.
Rosetta stoned also describes a character more so than it does sing about something. The character is someone who takes drugs and believes they have ascended to being superior to other mere mortals, even tho they cant explain why. We experience the ego death when taking psychadelics and it is profound yet for some, when the ego comes back after sobering the interpretation is made by the ego instead of a more introspective part of ourselves. The ego thinks they must have experienced something more profound than usual. We’ve all met someone who took acid for the first time and now just acts as if “they know what you cannot” it’s very relatable. But some people take it too far. And they are usually goobers like the one maynard writes about.
Except the subject of Rosetta (Bill Manspeaker) is a good friend of Maynard’s and the rest of the band. That was an actual story told to them and Maynard turned it into lyrics because he thought it was funny. I don’t think it’s really a criticism of anything.
@@aELLimA im friends with bill on fb. I get that’s where the inspiration came from but i still think maynard put an underlying theme to it, afterall what tool song doesnt have an underlying theme?
@@Magnumscrotus Bill is rad. I got to play around on stage with Green Jello a few months back when he practically pushed me up the stage stairs. Such a good time. I think what you said is true of most Tool songs, but Adam even said in that Q&A he did years ago that sometimes it’s a simple as hearing a story and writing a song about it, referring specifically to Rosetta Stoned at the time. I do think they are clearly capable of just fucking around sometimes and not having an underlying message to every single thing. If anything, they knew Tool fans would attach a deeper meaning to it anyway. That’s kind of what we are known for. 😆
@@aELLimA very true, and that is also the beauty of music especially the kind tool makes is what meanings people will apply to it. I guess this interpretation made alot of sense to me. At the end of the day i get that the song is really what it says it is at face value but the conversation you have after it and about it is the magical part, and that’s where the conversation leads me.
I believe with my whole heart that Wings Pt. 2 and Right in Two are the two best TOOL songs. The build to "that riff" in Right in Two is unbelievable, always gets me headbanging.
vicarious had the most electrifying and energetic part ive ever heard in any song around the 3:24 mark. oh my fucking god i just wanna destroy everything ITS SO GOOD
did indeed cry on the 10,000 days explanation. Also I would note that Intension starts (in my opinion) far before the stone age, when we were pure forms of life that moved by will alone, not requiring flesh or mundane desires to move us. Then it progresses to stone age, then rapidly to further development of civilization, etc. Right in two is probably also referencing the tendency for people to not only divide things (land, people, feelings, resources, etc) but also to divide ideas, hence dualistic thinking that constantly keeps people from even having the chance to think in a unified manner.
Theres something, a minor detail I think you missed. Vicarious has a specific line, “Credulous at best your desire to believe in Angels in the hearts of men…”, and you do acknowledge that he goes back on that statement and belief but only at Intension. He goes back on it wayyy earlier with 10,000 Days, his mother is that Angel that he believed in, that truly pure soul that he saw, just after one other song. I’ve read the first 4 songs as going together to show their overall growth and evolution in the way they think throughout the years. Vicarious is so good, but very overly edgy at times, almost like it’s written by a 14 year old who’s angry at god. Then it moves to Jambi, where he’s slowly realizing that there truly is good in this world, that he doesn’t have to express only through hate and negativity, then Wings where his mother dies and he realizes that he’s exactly what he was criticizing but embraces it. Though, Vicarious does still have that overtone that’s about how we all feed on negativity on the news, and even the negativity of his own life, which he then tells in the next songs. Instead of a mother holding her dying child crying “why oh why”, it’s the child holding the mother crying. As with a lot of their songs, there’s like 15 layers and tons of ways to read into all of this shit. I like yours and others’ interpretations, this one is just my own
exactly as to what you said at the end there are many layers and its all down to how ever you want to interpret it as, thats what TOOL is. a tool for the listener
You can view Intension as 4th part of the series, if lipan conjuring is the ritual, lost keys is the come up, rosetta stoned is the peak/ trip , and intention is the after glow.
About the Rosetta stoned you might think it's lyrically weaker than others but it's not, if you use psychedelic a bunch of times it's pretty relatable. On psychedelics, something you feel epiphany like you understand some great things, you feel like the chosen one and you actually feel like you found something profound that no one else knows about or understand it, and an hour or two later you don't remember a god damn thing, no matter how much you try to remember it's all gone. This song beautifully represents that strange state of mind and it captures those relatable feelings amazingly .

Wings and 10,000 is a beautiful song that my mother and I can relate to. Vicarious is just an awesome banger too. EVERYONE FORGETS INTENSION
These tracks hit home so hard for me... My mother suffered from cerebral hemmorhages throughout her life, which made her slowly become more and more disabled.... One of them was during my birth, which almost killed her.... 4 1/2 years ago, she got hit by the worst one. She lost her memory at points, only temporarely, but she started to become weaker. She lost her ability to speak after a few months, and at the same time, she became wheelchair-bound... We lost more and more of her over the years, and I saw her 5 days ago, and she was so tired.... she passed 2 days later, 3 days ago.... and I've just finished writing her eulogy.... Last time I listened to Wings was last year, and it ruined me.... The lyrics are just so beautiful...
10,000 days is my fav tool album. I love it. It speaks to my personal journey of grief and loss, 10,000 days the song is just beautiful and my favorite on the album.
I love this album because it SOUNDS phenomenal. It is mixed so well the guitar sounds brilliant on every track. Awesome listen through a great pair of headphones
Everyone else on the planet : Jambi = Jom-bee The narrator: Jambi = Jam-bye But seriously, this video was incredibly researched and put together. I think his analysis is spot-on.
Great video! Though you missed one thing. Why is the first song vicarious? It’s Maynard’s commentary on the band using his mother’s suffering/story throughout their discography.
I consider them the holy trinity. Three amazing albums made over 10 years. Not that one is better than the other but all 3 are awesome for different reasons. I love the proggy journey of Jambi then the ballsy punk of Hooker with a pee pee then the trippy introspection of Reflection. I could go on. All 3 different, but still great in their way.
Although not my favorite Tool album it is however the best sounding. For me I don't mind the direction Tool went with Lateralus but I prefer their more direct to your face approach from their debut to Lateralus. Besides Maynard's voice unfortunately couldn't hold up doing these songs and would eventually skip doing several parts of songs that he can't scream anymore. So the more musically focused approach was not only necessary but turned out to be a wise decision as they have won several awards and praises for their new musical style with Maynard taking a back seat and the other 3 members to shine more. Danny Carey has always been the true Rockstar of Tool for me and what gave me the enthusiasm to listen to more of their material. Saw them live in 2002 and that cemented their legacy for me ✌🏽♥️
I remember I bought the 10,000 days CD last Halloween, when I got home I put it in the CD player, Turned off all the light's and put on a good pair of headphones. It was the first time I truly listened to it without any distractions, it changed my life. When the title track ended I was left there thinking "holy shit that was beautiful", it is easily Tool's most beautiful track and my favourite ever since.
I see every tool album at the same quality level (except for undertow being lower). Every album is a different and mysterious book to enjoy. it´s hard to pick a favourite, love them all
to be honest, this album was my favorite of them all. i don't particularly care (personally) for fictional themes. music as therapy for dealing with or analyzing real life (whether emotional, political, or philosophical) has always been more meaningful to me.
I truly enjoyed this piece. Tool is one band that I listen to. That no matter what mood or state of mind I’m in. When I hear them, they reach in and grab a hold of my soul. They don’t let go ever. They heal me , all of me! The last time I saw them. I was sitting on the upper level. Everyone was sitting down. Not me, and I have NO F&$ks who it bothered. First off it’s TOOL. Show some respect. Secondly I paid $130 for an upper level seat! Unfortunately that’s the norm now. Still that $ adds up when you’re buying multiple tickets. When I go to shows I’m not there for theatrics or entertainment. I am there to listen and feel the music take over me. I try to go to the highest level I can attain! Enjoy every second you have of this life. Tool definitely helps make it great.
The story of the mothers coming before Solomon is about duality and free will. About truth and love versus greed. It suggests we all harbor evil in our hearts but wisdom and God’s light (in the form of an innocent child) calls us to be that higher part of ourselves. Anyway, great video. I really don’t hold this album in the same regard as the rest of Tool’s catalog, this coming from a 30 year fan. I’ve always wondered what it is about the songs that falls short for me and you have made me think it’s the music and production rather than the lyrics. Thanks
I thought the meaning behind rossetta stoned being named that is because the song is about him trying to get the other people to understand him just like how the rosetta stone helped transcribe egyptian hyroglyphics... very aptly named
Rosetta stoned is the patient telling the doctor and the nurse what happened to him. But the whole song is sarcastic and calling out UFO nutters and psychadelic trippers who are too into that life.
i really like how Maynards understanding of Christianity in wings for Marie is very naïve but only through the through the suffering of someone he loves that truly believes in god does he start to understand that Christianity isn't about tolerance, or peace "Suffering for salvation" but love, mercy and forgiveness. The world is evil, but god is good.
Rosetta stoned was really maynard singing about William Charles Manspeaker of Green Jello and his old Roomate's experience in the desert. i've met Bill in person recently and he stands by that it did in fact happen. really awesome Guy and a big part of why we have tool as he had introduced maynard to Adam and Danny as well as Allowing tool to play their first show in his Loft in LA which lead to them getting Signed due to Green Jello having recently got signed as well. good Bit of music history behind it all really and William is a lovely Soul in person got a big old hug from him as well
I used to agree that Lateralus, Aenima then 10,000 days, but over the years 10,000 days has really grown on me. Its a tie between that and Lateralus and maybe some days 10,000 gets ahead. Its more refined yet broad in its style. Aenima was very 'bland' and similar. Lateralus was a step up but only barely. 10,000 days was truly a masterpiece of diverse creation.
sad times we live in, when we need euphemisms to talk about ancient teachings that not only could save our lives, but our souls. Tool is a hard band to enjoy; It goes way too deep very quick, regardless if you´re prepared or not. The payback, nonetheless, is beyond our imagination, Like Shrooms of any other natural psychodelic, you´ll probably puke your intestines out, but if you let them, it could change you for the better. Artistically i think they´re among the likes of Radiohead, or Deep Purple. Experimentation, trial & error. Beautiful and worth it
i think The Grudge is the best opener other than Vicarious but the album was definitely about how Maynard needed to let go of his burden of knowing everything in a total of 10000 days
I dunno why but this is funny to me. I like tool because of thier musicality and instrumentations, so as you describe these very depressing and thoughtful songs, I know that I’ve jammed out to these with a simile on my face. Rosetta stoned lyrics suck, the instrumentations is 10/10 tho

Great video! Though you missed one thing. Why is the first song vicarious? It’s Maynard’s commentary on the band using his mother’s suffering/story throughout their discography.
10k days is no. 1 imo... ive spent hundreds of hours listening to this album and yet, its still a fresh listen... pure mastery!
The thumbnail really pulled me in dude! Good stuff
10,000 Days is in my opinion the best album ever made.
perhaps objectively worse then lateralus but by far my favorite listening experience. I agree
Rosetta Stoned is awesome… but Intension/Right in Two is unbeatable for me
Behind Laterauls this is my favorite album. Right in two and wings 1 and 2 are amazing songs.
Beautiful video, Please continue to post things like this.
I'm in total agreement on that line from Right In Two being the most prolific.
I love how Rene Laloux's "The Snails" is just COMPLETELY Synonymous with The Pot although the video has nothing with lyrics lmao
Saw them live in 2002 and that cemented their legacy for me ✌🏽♥️
I like your interpretation. Keep it up.
Thank you for this clip. It passed like 2 mins
where did you get these trippy visuals? they don’t seem like ai but im not sure
yeah its ai. fan made video for invincible

@@mysto_fps ahh i see. i made my own invincible video and none of it is ai. all of it is tool’s own video they put on the screens behind them at shows
@@mysto_fps shame I can't subscribe now
@@Oltiemal oh no!
@@mysto_fpsI mean at least you gave credit. Props to you
10,000 Days but you have an AENIMA image for the thumbnail.
10,000 days is still my favorite. When people say it's their worst I stop taking that person seriously lol.
Jambi helped me through some dark days in my addiction. Also, I think opiate and undertow are better than the three you put on those pedal stool.
Back in days, i started listening Tool with Vicarious. Now Wings/10,000 Days dilogy is one of my fav.
To be honest, this is the first, and Tool album I've listened to all of, and thought it was fuckin awesome. Mind melting shit.
Rosetta stoned is the patient telling the doctor and the nurse what happened to him.
But the whole song is sarcastic and calling out UFO nutters and psychadelic trippers who are too into that life.
The subject of that song is a good friend of theirs, so not calling out so much as just laughing at the scenario.
OH YEA A MYSTO VIDEO
i really like how Maynards understanding of Christianity in wings for Marie is very naïve but only through the through the suffering of someone he loves that truly believes in god does he start to understand that Christianity isn't about tolerance, or peace "Suffering for salvation" but love, mercy and forgiveness.
Beautiful and worth it
10,000 days takes gold for me imo
This is one of the best music analysis videos I've seen on youtube. Keep doing great bro
10,000 Days is my favorite album of all time.
Tool is a phenomenon. They HAPPEN when they are most needed.
10,000 days is a timeless masterpiece.
I have always felt Jambi is about his son Devon.
Guys, I didn't even graduate fuckin highschool
Sick visuals. I need your plug
I thought Jambi is about his son. Didn't know it was about his mom.
Dr. Watson was Justin
No shit? Had no idea. That’s cool.
It's not. It's a guy named Pete Riedling.
Correct! Riedling is their manager.
At least they got the British part right. People always claim he’s Australian.
0:53 what are these visuals from
i think The Grudge is the best opener other than Vicarious but the album was definitely about how Maynard needed to let go of his burden of knowing everything in a total of 10000 days
Funny i was recommended this video 10 days after it was uploaded
I’ve never not considered 10k days to be on par with Lateralus. Although they are equal in mastery, I prefer 10k.
Listened to the album on acid, no visuals until the pot bass line and my room twisted upside down. No other album did anything close to that
I don’t find this album dark. Beautiful., honest and gut wrenching, yes! Definitely not dark. ☮️
The Salomon Story is about cutting a baby in half as far as i remember.
This is correct!
@@mysto_fps cool video anyway.❤
goated pfp
Am Solomon. Can confirm.
