@@Lance37a Totally. I hear that. Especially on the ride cymbal bits, its really straight on, no swing. I read on Reddit (who knows if its true) but that they didn't really rehearse it, had a quick sound check and that was it. Danny knew it by memory and just went for it.

Neil with his ability to write lyrics as one of our lifetime greatest drummers. Geddy with his beautiful voice, who could drop a key or two to make his voice still relevent, and of course Alex, with his fat fingers showing us all that its not the size of the fingers, its what they can do. Seen Rush 13 times and I miss them so much.,
@@gc8972bChad is one of my favorite musicians of all time but I think John is more legendary. Probably a top 10-20 guitarist of all time. The reason why the chili peppers are so popular
Danny almost nailed the YYZ intro , that intro bit is tuff to nail and playing it live with RUSH makes it a little harder I would imagine and the fact he is playing on a drum kit that he may not use on the regular makes it even harder. Good stuff Danny! Legend
Danny Carey really, really grew into YYZ each and every second. Half way through it was like they'd been jamming forever together, what a magical tribute to all the artists and thank you.
What an absolute honour it must have been for Grohl, Smith and Carey to play with the two remaining legends of the greatest rock trio in history! RIP Neil Peart RIP Taylor Hawkins
Heartwarming to see how Rush was not forgotten after they were forced to call it quits - Their legacy has only grown bigger ever since Neil's final exit.
But remember, Neil isn't the original drummer on this tune. I think this is one of the only Rush songs that a drummer can play and not worry so much about trying to duplicate it. I've heard so many Rush covers where it kind of gets "lost in translation". So in that respect, I think Chad to a marvelous job. I think he was the best of them all in both tribute concerts, and I think all of them are top notch drummers.
The F**K did he!!! Danny is a fine player but Neil is an impossible act to follow. Dave came the closest and played the hardest song of the set anyway and he wasn't perfect either.
We heard three fantastic drummers. And it highlighted even more how special a musician Neil Peart was. The way he played, no one can replace him. Rush's music was complete with him.
You got to hand it to Dave, he did an excellent job! those are some huge shoes to fill and he tried and gave hiss all. And oh my God at their age to play and sound like that is nothing short of beyond amazing Geddy singing at the age of 70 like that Holy balls!!!!! Seeing them play again has the hairs on my entire body standing straight up and that girl screaming for them even adds more the excitement. I'll say it that Rush is the Mount Rushmore of all bands. Their dedication and surgical precision to everything is for all to follow and learn from Total Legends forever.
What a fitting tribute to Taylor...Getting a band he absolutely adored to play for him ...Thanks Dave for bringing all of them together..This was epic and Danny Carey (the closest to Neil in terms of the technical excellence ) absolutely killed it ..
The guitar solo in "Working Man" was so masterfully written and complex. Even the author himself cannot replicate it and he really does not try. Alex is one of the greatest!
One time he left the stage during a concert cause a fan screamed "Will Ferrell". And he had asked people to stop saying it. It was right after they had the drum off on Conan or Jimmy Fallon
As great of a drummer as Daney Carey is, he didn't impress me with his YYZ performance. He messed up on the end of the intro, and also didn't do Neil Peart's signature ride cymbal pattern. As a Rush fan, I find that inexcusable. And I am a big Tool fan, as well.
I have the utmost respect for Danny and Dave and what they have done for music. They are both phenomenal musicians in their own right. With that said, no one can play these songs with true proficiency and feel other than the Professor himself. Nothing but love for Dave and Danny. This entire concert had me in tears on multiple occasions. RIP to two of the greatest drummers of our lifetime. Neil and Taylor...we love you.
I wouldn’t mind betting Danny was near perfect on that… I feel with Neil’s passing he stands head and shoulders above the crowd… just like Neil did. In fact I would go as far as to say Tool stand in the same special category as Rush… a massive and dedicated following despite the lack of mainstream attention, exceptionally talented, deeply philosophical and spiritual to listen to.
Dave Grohl was amazing. I can’t believe how incredible his timing was. 2112 is so hard to play that tightly and in a a one-off performance to boot. Just phenomenal
The punk versions of Rush tunes with cranked raw guitars, Geddy Lee singing like the album vocals with most of his high range back (that long rest certainly did his voice good), with Drums pushing the beat (rushing at times), youthful energy, loved it, I loved it and so did the crowd !!! They roared as though they just saw the Beatles. Long live Rush, get back out there boys !!!!
Rush are my literal heroes. I was devastated when Neil passed. I love the outpouring of love from musicians and fans alike. It's also heartwarming when you see elite musicians being fans as well. Edit to add: That screaming lady is my spirit animal 14:48 😭
This was not just a tribute to Taylor but to Neil too. To see Danny sit in Neil’s place was more than a tribute, I’m sure it was an honor for Danny. Neil was a hero for him. Danny and Neil played together years ago. Just to watch that video of them together, I knew that the torch had been passed from “the professor” to the student. I give props to Dave and Chad and Taylor as they are true drummers, through and through. But as for Neil and Danny, they are percussionists and are tops in their craft and very very few like them. Use of different instruments and time signatures are like no other. RIP Taylor and The Professor
Not only that, but to fill in for one of his biggest influences live for the first time since his death… that hits way different and is a testament to Danny’s talent and mastery.
So wonderful to hear Ged and Alex playing these songs live once more and see the joy it still brings them. And l think that Neil would be glad that they were too! Rest in peace Professor.
Holy crap Rush's back! Never thought I'd see this!! Obviously no one can replace Neal Piert but Dave Grohl, Chad Smith and Dany killed it here! Neil was so good it takes several drummers to actually complete a full concert!
Definitely lost some of tye kick to his voice but the long rest done wonders, I bet if they put the octave down a step it'd be just like an old rush concert
@@Shakermakerrri mean it’d be odd if he hadn’t lost an octave or two, he’s 70 and you could already tell the deterioration by 1984 (going off of Spirit of Radio from the GUP live)but it was very small back then and only really got more pronounced at like r30 (probably due to him not singing much during the hiatus) but he definitely was nailing it during this concert.

I doubt that they'd want to but they could tour with that line up and pull it off. Danny is one of the few guys around who could learn every Peart drum part note for note and do it perfectly.
No doubt he's a great drummer but that swing that Neil had is missing.
Check out Mike portnoy. His tributes are insane.
@@calebeecher8451 if Rush ever do anything more than appearances like this… it has to be Portnoy.
@@JedNadin most definitely. he truly becomes the artist he is portraying. And pays attention to every detail
@@Lance37a Totally. I hear that. Especially on the ride cymbal bits, its really straight on, no swing. I read on Reddit (who knows if its true) but that they didn't really rehearse it, had a quick sound check and that was it. Danny knew it by memory and just went for it.
Shit I’m 61 years old &Rush was one of my favorites! Geddy & Alex still kick ass after all these years. This was really enjoyable for me to listen to & watch .. That’s some big shoes to step into Dave! Here’s to Dave Grohl for putting this together. Rest In Peace Neil & Taylor
Same 61 and can't believe that I made it this far to witness this!
Neil with his ability to write lyrics as one of our lifetime greatest drummers. Geddy with his beautiful voice, who could drop a key or two to make his voice still relevent, and of course Alex, with his fat fingers showing us all that its not the size of the fingers, its what they can do. No pressure, just filling in on drums for the GOAT.
Best comment here.
I can’t think of anyone better to do Neil Peart than Danny Carey.
@@DoiInthanon1897 Mike Portnoy could do that too.

I just saw Chad Smith with the Peppers in Dallas (best show I have ever witnessed) and HE KILLED IT. The unsung hero of that band for sure.
He's fairly well sung.
Tony and Flea are bored, John is in his own world and Chad is the best argument for the RHCP to keep playing live

@@ParsoJr Frusciante is the reason why the chili peppers are so iconic
Danny almost nailed the YYZ intro , that intro bit is tuff to nail and playing it live with RUSH makes it a little harder I would imagine and the fact he is playing on a drum kit that he may not use on the regular makes it even harder. Good stuff Danny! Legend
I've seen hundreds of people nail that. . . on air drums at Rush concerts.

If Danny Carey is messing up you know it’s tough
Didn't The Professor say the YYZ was tough for even him to play?
i dont know if he didnt pratice....but wow.....he screw it up
Chad Smith nailed this! And I'm a bigger Carey fan. Amazing!
Chad rules!
Danny Carey really, really grew into YYZ each and every second. Half way through it was like they'd been jamming forever together, what a magical tribute to all the artists and thank you.
Danny Carey is beyond amazing
What an absolute honour it must have been for Grohl, Smith and Carey to play with the two remaining legends of the greatest rock trio in history!
RIP Neil Peart
RIP Taylor Hawkins
wow the boys sound great! Chad ,Danny and Dave must be in awe of Alex and Geddy. They all played great! The professor is smiling down upon them.

The truly are THEE best of the best!!
Chad Smith nailed it. There's so much room in that song to make it your own. It's one of my favorite Rush tunes to play
It was great but nobody 'nails' a Rush song on drums. Come on, you should know that.
No one but neil. Rip.
It was my favorite out-of all them.
We heard three fantastic drummers. And it highlighted even more how special a musician Neil Peart was. The way he played, no one can replace him. Rush's music was complete with him.
This put the biggest smile on my face knowing how much of a fan Taylor was of Rush it just makes me warm and happy.
Chad killed it such a great drummer.
Love seeing Danny fill in for Neil!!! Bonzo, Danny & Neil are my 3 favorites ever!!!
You have magnificent taste...because it’s the same as mine😀
The 3 greatest! I’ve been dreaming of seeing Danny sit in for Neil since shortly after the professor passed.

What a fitting tribute to Taylor...Getting a band he absolutely adored to play for him ...Thanks Dave for bringing all of them together..This was epic and Danny Carey (the closest to Neil in terms of the technical excellence ) absolutely killed it ..
Chad energy and charisma is everything
I never really liked the Chilli Peppers, but I can watch Chad all day long! His stints with Drumeo are awesome.
Words cannot describe how amazing that was. Neil and Taylor would be proud.
Never thought we would hear those songs live again after The Professor. That was great!!
This is the longest period of time I've ever heard Danny play straight four...and he kills that, too.

Rhcp fans when they haven't made a Chad Smith joke in 12 seconds
One time he left the stage during a concert cause a fan screamed "Will Ferrell". And he had asked people to stop saying it. It was right after they had the drum off on Conan or Jimmy Fallon
Oh man! Danny Carey was amazing! That was excellent!
In fact I would go as far as to say Tool stand in the same special category as Rush… a massive and dedicated following despite the lack of mainstream attention, exceptionally talented, deeply philosophical and spiritual to listen to.
eil definitely passed the baton on to Danny on the way out. Even more touching that they were good friends
Dave Grohl was amazing. I can’t believe how incredible his timing was. 2112 is so hard to play that tightly and in a a one-off performance to boot.

I think this is the perfect format if Geddy and Alex wanted to tour under the Rush banner... having a bunch of drummers to homage Neil

That would be awesome im sure they had a good time playing
The punk versions of Rush tunes with cranked raw guitars, Geddy Lee singing like the album vocals with most of his high range back (that long rest certainly did his voice good), with Drums pushing the beat (rushing at times), youthful energy, loved it, I loved it and so did the crowd !!! They roared as though they just saw the Beatles. Long live Rush, get back out there boys !!!!

Geddy is in great voice here. He sounds incredible for 70. Alex ain’t too shabby either
Definitely lost some of tye kick to his voice but the long rest done wonders, I bet if they put the octave down a step it'd be just like an old rush concert
