I love the take on the creative process here... I wrote this sometime ago as an observation in my martial arts journey “Repetitive and deliberate practice such as mantras, kata, suburi or drills are like scaffolding to an architect or pencil sketches to an artist. When you have built the structure or found the lines they can be removed and the building/art can stand on its own. It is at this point one can see the finer details and work on polishing / honing in the final form to fit your own vision. They are a way of learning to access true expression. True expression comes from within and cannot be forced.”

Great interview Rick! Always enjoy the new gems on your channel. I appreciate the thoughtful and careful questions you ask your guests. Tool is amazing live and I was able to see them in Los Angeles a few times over the years. :)
Maynard's work ethic is remarkable. I've always really admired that about him. Always moving, never complacent. And for as great of a singer as he is, I don't know if he gets enough credit purely as a songwriter. Some of his writing is so poetic. My favorite Maynard lyric: "Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to life an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here." (Tool- Right in Two) Never stop, Maynard!
I’ve gotten that feeling from him for a few years listening to him talk about tool in interviews. He doesn’t seem to enjoy tool, more like just a job he likes. He always seems to kind of roll his eyes talking about the process of tool and making their music.
Always great seeing Maynard being interviewed. Not the easiest person to interview either. Love his answers and how straightforward he is. Mr. Beato, as always you’ve done an awesome job 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Truly amazing interview, Maynard is down to earth and understands the human experience in a profound way. I find myself nodding in agreement throughout the interview.
A few years back I visited Maynard's pasta restaurant in Cottonwood and tasted some of the wines from grapes he grew in Arizona. And it was his playlist in the background. Well worth it.
Maynard has been my inspiration for many years. I love that he mentions Minor Threat, and compliments them. 😁 They are one of the few punk bands I still listen to! Maynard never ceases to amaze me!

Most interviews with MJK he is just waiting to stab the interviewer in the eye with a spoon because they have asked the same question for the 50th time or they ask him what his favorite color is. With Rick he looks at Rick like, that is a great question. I need to give a great answer.
It brings me nothing but joy to know a new Puscifer album is coming out in 25. As far as I’m concerned Maynard is a musical genius. Modern artists pale in comparison. If there’s a new album coming hopefully that also means there’ll be a tour and with even more hope, they’ll be coming to London, England - not the 🇨🇦London. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼to infinity. I wish I had the same talent as what Maynard has in his pinky toe coupled with Danny’s percussion chops. Both are one in a trillion each. ✌🏼
Very much agree with the discovery portion. Some of the most fun I remember is going to Best Buy or CD Warehouse and just buying a cd because the artwork was cool or the album/band name sounded cool
Yeah I try to type me lyrics now too, I have books and books of written lyrics but most of what I write never ends up lyrics in a song! So good to hear Even Maynard James Keenan does that too! Great interview Rick!

Maynard's work ethic is remarkable. I've always really admired that about him. Always moving, never complacent. And for as great of a singer as he is, I don't know if he gets enough credit purely as a songwriter. Some of his writing is so poetic.
My favorite Maynard lyric:
"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to life an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here."
(Tool- Right in Two)
Never stop, Maynard!
Beautiful- 'cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion' is an amazing line as well
I know tool isn’t his favorite project for many reasons but when he says anything positive about them it makes me happy
Same!!
I’ve gotten that feeling from him for a few years listening to him talk about tool in interviews. He doesn’t seem to enjoy tool, more like just a job he likes. He always seems to kind of roll his eyes talking about the process of tool and making their music.
Now if only you can get Adam Jones and Justin Chancellor..
oh yes please
Hell yeah
Thats what i am saying..... Get em Rick .... ASAP
Always great seeing Maynard being interviewed. Not the easiest person to interview either. Love his answers and how straightforward he is. Mr. Beato, as always you’ve done an awesome job 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Tool are coming to BRAZIL!!!!! So anxious to see them this april, finally, will be the best day of my life.
Congrats! It was so amazing in 2024 in Paris - it was so fucking great so I immediately purchased tickets to the 2nd concert in Firenze and enjoyed it again in a week. And it was not enough! God knows, I need more Tool concerts
They never disappoint.I saw them on the Lateralus tour. You will be blown away.
@@NataliaShibaeva they will play on a festival (Lollapalooza), same day as Sepultura and Justin Timberlake, hahaha. Should I be worried about it? Will the mixed audience and festive structure be detrimental for the experience?
This channel has been a big discovery method for me for music. I listen on spotify but i dont really listen to anything suggested. Instead i just have a big spreadsheet of artists and have been listening to all their music one by one at my choosing.
You are so lucky Rick, awesome interview man.
Truly amazing interview, Maynard is down to earth and understands the human experience in a profound way. I find myself nodding in agreement throughout the interview.
Just started getting into Tool just this month so seeing this pop up today is such an amazing and welcome surprise
enjoy the ride! I have been on it since 93 and it just keeps on going.
Tool is a band that needs to be experienced, Maynard's other two bands are also great!
Welcome to the Tool Army.
Life changing experience forthcoming for you!
So envious that you’re right at the beginning!
New Puscifer!!! That just made my year! Haven’t stopped listening to the last one since it came out. Everything IS gonna be all right!
I love that his mind stays sharp, uncynical and sublime. Maynard's a valid voice in the vortex.
🙄
Voice in the "Churn"! "The Expanse"
Rick, you are an expert at letting guests draw back the curtains, relax, and feel at ease. Great interview as always
Maynard is the ultimate guest....congrats Rick.....let me get a beer and start listening to what this icon has to say!!!
Maynard is a dream guest to have anywhere, at anytime. ❤❤❤
Great idea!
Wow, absolutely Wow!. An interview for the ages! Rick, you absolutely crush it every time and you are a legend. Thank you Rick, and thank you Maynard.
There are few things as cathartic as watching passionate experts in a subject discuss it in detail. I hope you know that each of your contributions to the world are more influential than you will ever know.
Most interviews with MJK he is just waiting to stab the interviewer in the eye with a spoon because they have asked the same question for the 50th time or they ask him what his favorite color is. With Rick he looks at Rick like, that is a great question. I need to give a great answer.
OMG, this day is definitely getting better. Thank you, Rick ❤
Maynard still uses compact discs as his main musical input… Thank you sir, for making me not feel alone anymore!! 🙏🔥
i do as well and vinyl
Thank you for releasing this on my birthday! I couldn't think of a better birthday present
Happy Birthday 🎂
Thank you Rick, for part 2 ✌🏼😊
One of the best MJK interviews I've seen, better than #1. Great job Rick!
funniest bits for me
23:50 taylor swift
28:43 a tool thing
51:01 danny
54:19 who?
1:00:06 vinyl
1:09:30 nighty night Rik
It brings me nothing but joy to know a new Puscifer album is coming out in 25. As far as I’m concerned Maynard is a musical genius. Modern artists pale in comparison. If there’s a new album coming hopefully that also means there’ll be a tour and with even more hope, they’ll be coming to London, England - not the 🇨🇦London. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼to infinity. I wish I had the same talent as what Maynard has in his pinky toe coupled with Danny’s percussion chops. Both are one in a trillion each. ✌🏼
Great conversation as always. I have a bunch of those Blue Headphones he mentions 33:50. I'm happy to send a couple over to Maynard.
No doubt, you can send them to his winery in Arizona.
@@justincase8239 or their new cafe Queen bee!
Great interview Rick! Maynard was comfortable with you. I wonder, what are the odds of interviewing Adam? 🙏
Could we please have a reaction video where Maynard James Keenan hears ‘Sober’ by Tool (live) for the first time?
Having him un-box something would also be pretty good.
Thrilled to watch this. Thank you for this interview!
3:07 "Infinite Possibilities" all I could think of was that line in Lateralus.
Yes...plus at 14:40 “Drawing way outside the lines”. There are no coincidences!
I dont think I've ever seen anyone get Maynard to relax and open up and seem to be enjoying the interview process as much as he does with Rick. Kudos, dude has a talent and presence thats genuine and puts people at ease.
Immediately clicked and liked. Thanks Rick!
What I love about about Maynard, aside from his rarefied personality, is how he lets others freely express their artistry. In return the same respect is paid to him in kind and to me, that is why every project that he works on has this seamless cohesion, an unburdened magic to it. Consummate team player.
Rick, please reach out to Adam and interview him
I’ve had the pleasure of recording at the studio with Rick and GL. One of the greatest musical endeavors in a studio that we have ever had. Rick is a genius. I am so happy that Rick is interviewing all of these amazing artists.
Maynard doesn't look 60 at all... my god, it is not the 90s any longer.
