    We upgraded our boring builder-grade 90's flat panel interior doors using plywood and paint. This is a really simple and budget friendly way to give your doors texture and the look of molding without the cost.

    Much easier (and probably more cost effective) than using a trim piece method. Thx.

    Thank you for making this video. We are preparing to remodel our mother-in-law's house, and the interior doors are flat and boring. I've priced new doors, and they are NOT $24. More like $40. And we have 9 doors to do. So I really like this option. I think it made your doors look fantastic and gave them a custom look. Love it!

    do not use caulk for patching, use wood putty, caulk has its uses but patching isn't one of them.

    • @CharlestonCrafted
      @CharlestonCrafted  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the tip! That is something we have learned since this project - wood filler on sandable seams and caulk on the edges!

    I think, If you change the outdated trims and change the hardware into black, everything will look in sync and more modern without touching the doors (other than painting).

    If you would have build up the plywood in a shaker door style it would have made them look way better, but this is still pretty neat

      Great idea but then she woould have to make new holes for door knobs :(

    • @whitehh15
      @whitehh15 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nooramadani Yes, just 1 more step. You would need to use a hole saw (cheap drill attachment) to drill a hole in the plywood that matches your door hole. It's a 2 minute job.

    • @whitehh15
      @whitehh15 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nooramadani The actual pain of doing it this way (if you're up to the challenge / care enough about the final result) is blending the plywood edge, and the door edge. I used wood filler all the way around the visible side of the door to ensure the plywood to door transition is seamless. It took quite some time, but every door in my house is modern / stylish, and I probably spent a couple hundred dollars on paint / plywood.

      1/4” plywood, sold in 4’x8’ sheets. Usually around $50 nowadays but price will vary in your area

  • @tinan1103
    @tinan1103 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Weren't the 4" plywood strips rough on the edges? It didn't look like you sanded them smooth. So I'm wondering how the edges were?

    • @CharlestonCrafted
      @CharlestonCrafted  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Edges were smooth. Did sand them, but didn't show it on here.

    • @mybestideas1

      It showed as a sloppy work in the video. Also they somehow do not add dimension - but this could be just how you filmed it.

    I want to do that also. You think I could glue them because I don’t have a nail gun. Can you send me the name of the mailer. Also can you share the color of your walls

    • @CharlestonCrafted
      @CharlestonCrafted  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could glue them, but it would be difficult to keep them in place while the glue dried. You'd need to use some solid tape. The nailer is the Ryobi AirStrike- amzn.to/319yiW3. The wall color is "Online" by Sherwin Williams.

    Yikes, that's a dangerous cross cut on the table saw. This video explains why: th-cam.com/video/F0jbg9LuDsc/w-d-xo.html

    • @Gabriellariz
      @Gabriellariz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      First thing I noticed too, best if used a stop block on fence, or better yet use a miter saw. Good job on the rest though.

    • @Ricciuto1980
      @Ricciuto1980 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gabriel Lariz I did something similarly silly before, not with the miter gauge, but cutting a small piece that was slightly wider than long against the fence with a push stick. When it kicked back, I knew instantly that I had done something stupid, but not before the piece of wood flew back, hit my finger and broke it!

    • @TheJsaffle
      @TheJsaffle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw that very thing, holding that wood between that blade and that fence. Could have very easily moved his fence over another half inch slammed the board against the stop block that way he's got no pressure between the blade and the fence. Bball severely underestimate the "awesomeness" of a sled for table saw.

    How did you nail into a hollow core door?

    • @CharlestonCrafted
      @CharlestonCrafted  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We used an 18 gauge brad nailer with one inch nails. Worked perfectly and they are very secure.

      use liquid nails instead and couple of nails to hold it while dries

    Purchase a new door $24 instead of making your existing door more ugly

    • @CharlestonCrafted
      @CharlestonCrafted  5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      You could purchase new doors, but that's not always an easy option. As we mentioned, we had 8 doors and they were 5 different sizes. Custom doors are not $24, so this was easy and absolutely enhanced the look.

    Decent idea, very bad execution…. You had to prime the wood. It looks like didn’t sand down the joints and sides. Also the size and the placement is odd… 🤷🏼‍♀️ just my opinion 🤷🏼‍♀️
