Thanks! I used your video to replace my screen! :) I like that you go slowly... I was actually able to keep up on the reassembly and didn't have to pause too much on the dissassembly. I also like that you describe as you go what each part is. Thanks alot!

I've watched a couple of different Nexus 5 teardown videos, and this one is by far the most professional and complete. I found it especially interesting to hear what the different parts and contacts are for, even though it's not really necessary for something like a screen replacement. Just interesting geek stuff.
Thanks for making and publishing this video.

Just thought I'd update, I followed this guide and successful got out the stuck sim simply by carefully pushing it from the small gap in the bottom of the holder until it came out. That sim is beat up now so I've ordered another, hopefully I haven't done damage to the board/holder.
Another thing I've learnt is not to over tighten screws, which I've done and slightly threaded a couple of the screws so I might have to deal with that should something go wrong again.
Lastly, my Nexus 5's (I think it's the revision as it's from Jan 2014) back cover didn't come off as easily as I've seen other peoples, has anyone else had this problem? There was two stubborn clips in the middle on one side which took a lot more force to get out, although, I found by lifting the case 90 degrees got the last one out quickly. But now there's a noticeable small gap on the one side in the middle from where I was trying too aggressively to get the clips out of haha.
Anyway, thank you for this video.

Hey nice video! I just wanted to know if it was possible to take the SanDisk memory card from this motherboard and put it on another one? My nexus 5 is stuck on the boot animation and the only possible way is to factory reset the whole thing, but I have some very important data in my phone for which I haven't taken a backup

If you find NFC to not be working after this push down firmly on the outer case after the phone's been reassembled just above the S in nexus, if you hear a click sound that's the nfc antenna snapping back into place

I don't know why your video does not come up top of the list - took me a little while to find it again - it's so good. I think I've used it about eight times now to change screens and batteries. I quite like the Nexus 5 and I've probably had 8 of them - I buy two old ones for £25 each and make one good one using your video - which explains absolutely everything. Thanks. Love the pace you go at, love the way you point out what every item is. Sound is clear and you are so close - it really is quite rare to come across a 'how to' video this good. Thanks again.

This is a terrific video, it gave me the confidence to replace my cracked screen. The digitizer on the new screen isn't working or isn't recognised - some web pages suggest that Android 6 may not talk to a non-original digitizer. The screen display is perfect. I wonder how I could tell

Hey...Sorry for dumb question...i couldnt find a way to google this but please answer...This is a bit funny/dumb/sad thing just happened...i got my nexus 5 not even 5 days ago and i was cleaning the back with an alcohol pad because one of the letters were dirty, so i thought i could just take the letters off clean them, then superglue them back on....That wasn't good because some got on the case and got dirtier...Google said Nail polish remover could remove super glue but that ENDED UP TAKING THE RUBBERCOATING OFF AND MAKING THE PAINT DEGRADE AND TURN BLEACHED/WHITE....SO MY MAIN QUESTON IS...I HAVE THE BLACK NEXUS 5...if i replace it with a Red or White BATTERY COVER...would it still work ...basically taking the black one off and putting a different battery cover on. THANKS...sorry for such long story thought you should know what happened.

    Hi again!
Sorry to ask for your advice once again!
The phone is all working (new screen etc.) except for the 4G problem that I still have :-(
I have been in touch with about 6 companies and either spoken to, or Emailed them to see if anyone makes (or can make one up) an antenna cable that I need. I have read quite a bit and what I think that I need is:
RF cable is 1mm dia coaxial 90mm in length
2mm micro coaxial connector at one end (what it came with as standard)
2mm mini RF test connector at the other (a.k.a u.fl pigtail?)
Do you know of anywhere that might have these in stock, or anyone that could make one up for a reasonable sum?
Many thanks once again for your advice and reply :-)
    Steve.

Hi, I just packed my Nexus 5 and I , on the advice , added thermal paste , Noctua NT - H1 ( pocchissima with a cotton swab ) , the CPU to dissipate heat better, but to my surprise I realized there ' he was put precendentemente no thermal paste . Fording other videos I noticed that almost no CPU had put suppetta pasta. I was wrong to put it and it is better that remove or leave everything as it is ?
P.S. Also in the assembly I damaged the white antenna cable and await a new cable . Tips .
    Thank you.

One thing I just learned about screen replacement for the Nexus 5: When replacing the rear housing (back cover/plate), there's a clip in the middle, about two-thirds of the way up that needs to be attached, otherwise wireless charging will not work. To fix, once the cover is attached, simply apply pressure in the middle of the back, about 2/3 of the way up until you hear a snap. Done.

Excellent. my 5 WiFi had gone a while back then Bluetooth failing...hitting the phone worked but then it started going into loop shut down. I read about the OVEN treatment for the motherboard but never liked this idea so once apart the heatgun was about 400c ran it all over the board (tested on solder first to see how long before it melted) and first assembly...everything is working as it should. Fingers crossed and CHEERS!

I changed the whole display unit a few weeks ago, now it works fine again. It includes frame, display, glass and digitizer. This is awesome video. I had to replace my broken glass completely, I bought the screen by ~$100 and went through this video and everything fall into place. Just he could actually mention the battery needs to be handled carefully otherwise it might cause damage and sparks. Those who does not have the heating machine (shown) for removing the glass, you can use any kind of heating source (I used my burner's flame from little height) to loose the adhesive, and it worked ...

    Hello!!!!
Incredible video. I would like to ask u few questions. I had my nexus 5 repaired last month and about 2 days ago the screen went black and I went back to the repair shop today to get the screen replaced for the second time. After the repair I asked what could be causing problems with the screen and they said that the heat may damage the screen, so I asked what could cause this extreme heat and he said the hardware if damaged may do it. After 30 min I start to noticed how the start button was almost even with the edge of the cover and I could hardly feel it and the screen showed a light ( like a small globe in the low right corner of the screen) also the phone wasn't vibrating anymore. I had to go back for the second time explain what the problems were and after 1h they gave me the phone back with the same problem on the starting button saying the rubber was getting worn and after replacing the screen 2 times they couldn't do better. ( not done yet =P ) Came back home and the volume button ( - ) stuck.
What I would like to ask is: Is it true that the plastic button on the main board can get worn? Are they just bullshitting me?
I don't mind paying to fix my phone as long as the work is well done. I have the feeling these guys are just trying to make up excuses and I don't really like it.
    Thanks in advance.

Hello, i have an 3G issue. My phone is blocked in airplane mode. When i want to go back in normal mode, my phone can't reach 3G (or even EDGE or GSM btw) signal. I suspect the 3G antenna is down... Can you tell me which part i need to change ? Because i saw that there is a multiband antenna..

My battery cover/Rear housing doesn't snap shut anymore, it's only where the USB cable touches the battery. The battery and the USB cable makes it bulge out so it won't snap in. The location in your video 31:32 . Please help! I'm scared if water leaks in or if my phone drops then something will break

Hi! I watched this video when replacing my nexus 5 screen. Everything worked fine, but a few months after replacing my screen, it started to show some vertical stripes and then it stopped showing any images at all. Would the replacement of the yellow flex cable solve my problem? Thanks!

I have an issue with my Nexus 5 . The ringer or audio on my mobile works only for about 10secs n stops. If I plug in the headphone jack then it works fine. What could be the issue can you help?

Thanks so much. Used this video to replace my screen. Really appreciate how you described everything in depth. Including how screw lengths are the same ("Don't worry") and how to pry up on double-side taped components without damaging.

Great video, I just successfully replaced my screen and I have absolutely no experience with this kind of work.
Just one thing that might help others: I bought my screen + frame from AliExpress, and at least mine did not come with the little frame where the earpiece is placed (see it at 20:15). So I also had to remove it from the old phone frame (using a screwdriver, really easy) and put in the new one (at first I didn't do it, and hence the earpiece did not work).
Congratulations on the great video, and thank you a lot!

Nice video. I need help: which is the chip you touch at 2:53 (I'd like just to know its name and functionality), because I noticed that it is a bit prominent in the back cover when I see my Nexus backlight... Is this a normal thing?
Thanks, hoping anyone will answer soon!

Superb Videos. I must really thank you. The demonstration was perfect and I enjoyed the descriptions you added of the components.
Your soothing voice also helped to calm during the occasional stresses.
I have subscribed and will certainly try your other videos.

I would like to replace the GPS in my Nexus 5. Which part should I replace, it's not stated here AFAIK. My GPS has issues with Fix and it's not software issue. Can You help me?

I just replaced my screen. The video I used wasn't done as well as this one, and I wish I had found this one first.
Now that I've replaced my screen, the issue that I've run into is that the digitizer is not working properly. I press one area on the screen, but it registers somewhere above or below where I've pressed. I believe this is just a faulty screen (and not a bad install), however, is there something I may have messed up with this? Thanks in advance.

Thanks sir, recently bought a Nexus 5 used, and couldn't get reception at all. Tried everything, software fixes, different sims, etc. I was ready to return it to the seller. Watched this vid, and decided to give it a shot to see if the antenna at all damaged/disconnected. Low and behold one of the antennas was disconnected. Reconnected it, and the phone works now like a champ. Thanks to you I got it working =)

Question: I have successfully installed my new screen on the nexus 5. Everything works perfectly except when in my case now speakerphone echoes for the person on the other end. The same exact case never did this b4, and it doesn't do this out of the case. I've opened the phone back up and nothing near the mic = \ suggestions?

I'd love to see you do a video on wi-fi hardware and replacement of same. Preferably on an LG V10 but any high end phone would be appreciated. There seem to be many problems across all manufacturers with wi-fi. Thanks for your video.

A great big thank you. Best Nexus 5 teardown I found on the web, and next to my laptop lies a restored specimen!!
But you must have a magic screwdriver and plastic knife, seeing how easy things come apart in your video.

If the phone stops accepting calls, connecting to LTE, WiFi and all other signals after a fall what do you suppose is the problem? Do u think it could be the antennas? Would the issue be fixed by changing the back cover? Pls someone respond if you can help.

Cheers for a great video. I just have an issue, after replacing my screen it appears that the brand-new screen (which is OEM) is running at a low resolution. I'll try crack it open again and reseat the cables, but could anything else be causing the problem?

I bought a used Nexus 5 which suffered water damage as I later found out. The seller told me, that he used the phone until I bought it. Now when I want to use the phone with my sim, which is a new one, I have a very weak signal. I lose it most of the time. When I use the phone with a sim from another carrier (the same like the seller used) it's working fine. The phone also works with a third carrier but not with the one I want to use. There is also another phenomenon: when I take of the back cover, the signal becomes much stronger, still not good but much better. The sim is ok, because I use it now with my old phone and have no problems with the connection. Has anyone an idea where the problem could be? I’m thankful for any help.

Just finished using this to replace my wife's shattered screen after she dropped her phone - was wonderful and very helpful step by step. Worked perfectly! Hopefully the new screen lasts longer (also see the accompanying video on the screen replacement after breakdown).
