    I am the most technologically retarded human on the planet, but with the help of this man's kind and reassuring voice, I'm pretty sure I could have parked a 747 out of the sky and into my grandmother's back garden. So fixing my phone was as easy as pie. 11/10 my good sir. MANY THANK YOUS

      I had a broken Nexus 4 16GB for a year in a closet. I had a working 8GB and bought a refurbished 16GB. The refurbished one had a bad USB Flex and the old working phone had only 8GB.
      With this mans angelic patience and tenacity for detail, I pulled out the broken phone and with its parts I ended up with two working 16GB phones. This man can probably help you move a camel through the eye of a needle.

    One of the clearest and straight forward easy to follow video tutorials I've seen. The view is magnified so you can easily see what the parts look like and how and where they go. The second section putting the phone back together again is invaluable. This tutorial is far clearer than the parts provider tutorial which missed several important steps included here. I was also able to see where a repair shop had lost some parts which explained some problems I'd had with the phone since. Thank you!

    It might still have some moisture trapped in the backlight. Warm the phone to about 60ºC and put it in a vacuum chamber, this will remove any trace of water left behind. If you dont have access to a chamber then a new screen will probably cure the problem..

  • @LE55ONS

    you need to buy the glass that comes with the digitizer as its not possible to swap the digitizer over to a new glass, plus your existing digitizer is not working at the bottom

    Thank you for this excellent video. This made it possible for me to replace my destroyed screen, digitizer, and frame. The only detail I noticed that was missing was to show the small grey rubber piece near the top of the phone that needs transferred to the new frame (not the part that is near the proximity sensor). I simply pulled it out of the old and put it into the new. Again, thanks for this excellent, high-quality video. The 1080p image quality helped quite a bit as well. Thumbs up for sure on this one!

    Thank you for the great tutorial on how to disassemble and reassemble the Nexus 4. please keep up the good work!
    if anyone is having proximity issues after changing LCD/Screen, I took a very small piece of electrical tape, folded it up and placed it between the light/proximity sensor board and the black plastic cover with the 9 screws. This pushes the sensor against the glass which will correctly sense if the phone is in close (5cm) proximity of an object or not.

      @LE55ONS  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      try a good quality screwdriver and push hard. If that's no good you'll need to use a small drill to remove the head. When drilling keep a magnet nearby to catch all the metal filings

    An absolutely first-class description. I successfully replaced my broken front screen following these instructions.
    Sadly, although the operation was a success the patient died - as there is now no audio on the phone. There is some on the headphone jack but it's not good either. (It doesn't seem to vibrate with quite the vigour I would expect when I touch the screen.)
    I have re-opened the device and reseated all the connections but to no avail. Either I broke something when I fixed it, or something more was damaged when I dropped it initially.
    Any ideas?

    • @LE55ONS
      @LE55ONS  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a strange fault to have after fitting a new screen. Maybe the earpiece isn't making contact with the mainboard?

    • @BobMudford
      @BobMudford 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Thanks very much for coming back to me. It's very kind of you.
      Well, I did take it apart again and reseat all the connections including the earpiece one, so I think that I've got that covered. The fact the haptic feedback is also very weak suggests to me that there may be some other fault. Would it be worthwhile trying to replace some other components? (I bought another phone some time ago so I'm not in a great hurry.)

    • @LE55ONS
      @LE55ONS  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob Mudford Its certainly worth replacing the earpiece but that won't improve the headphone jack output. I can't think of any reason the haptic feedback would become weak after disassembly unless the motor has been removed and needs fresh double tape. Its a long shot but I've heard problems like this have gone away after reflashing the firmware...

    • @BobMudford
      @BobMudford 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Hi Again. The haptic feedback was a red herring and when I put good headphones on the device I can hear though them clearly. So it's just the external speakers. I'll have a go at re-flashing the firmware when I'm feeling brave!

      if you're running android 4.4.x and there is no audio in retrospect to the call, then it is most likely the Google Play Services causing the issue. Best solution is to install android 5.0

      Fabain Kroeger frist of all no its not normal. In my case it means that the batterie hasnt got enough charged yet to continue using it (f.ex if my phone has no battrie left an i plugg it in after a few mins it boots up, but if i use it right away my phone just shutsdown without warning and te red flashing light comes on. In my case you just have to wait another 5-10mins so the batterie has enough charge.(Sorry for the bad english. Its not my native language.)

I was happy to see that it wasn't part of the main pcb, since my usb just "burnt" while charging... =/ oh well. everything else on board functions, besides the usb (thus no charging/data transferring). luckily nexus 4 is compatible with Qi wireless charging, bought one, and back in action, while i wait for the replacement part :D

    Thank you LE55ON5, for a wonderfully clear and patient video. With your help I was able to replace the faulty touch screen on my Nexus 4 - now works wonderfully. I had some trouble with the GPS afterwards, but found a solution, which might help others too.
    I'd bought a new Digitizer+LCD+Frame assembly, which was much easier than ungluing and regluing the original frame!. After reassembly, the touch screen was fine, only the GPS didn't work ('no signal'). I read that the digitiser chip needs some foil around it to reduce interference, so I tried kitchen aluminium foil, but that stopped the touch screen working too - presumably it short-circuited something. Eventually I got it working by carefully peeling the aluminium foil cover off the old digitiser, and using it to cover the new digitiser. Turns out that that original aluminium foil cover has actually got plastic insulating stuff on the side that touches the digitiser, and thickish aluminium on the other (top) side, plus a sticky bit that wraps around underneath the digitiser (where you pull the blue plastic protective tape off the new digitiser) to hold everything in place.
    Anyway, it's all working now, so I'm hoping to get another good year or two out of my Nexus 4. Thanks a heap LE55ON5 :-)
    Mark

    The phone systems work normally (as i can grab screenshots when linked to my computer showing a fully functional screen, and the touchscreen feel responsive) but my phone display just comes up a cloudy white and then fades into black. Best Nexus 4 disassembly video I found, by very far. Besides the detailed and easy to follow explanations, with clear voice and close images, the video/audio quality rocks! The end-to-end anottations and "Next" button are a plus. Contratulations!

    Excellent video - guided by this man's soothing voice and thorough instructions I managed to replace the LCD on my Nexus 4. The hardest part was releasing the clips to get the back cover off. The guitar pick was absolutely essential - thumbnails and plastic knives were not up to the task.

    Absolutely perfect. Had a broken digitizer (as well as some wear and tear on a 2 1/2 year old screen) -- $50 for a replacement screen/frame plus this video and my phone is back. I can't imagine a more informative or useful video -- thanks so much!

    Hello, Excellent video. Straight out of book description and representation.
    I had a question though. A horizontal section of the touch screen was unresponsive in my nexus 4. Do you think unpluggin and plugging the display and digitiser connections would solve the issue? I just wanted to take your suggestion before I take it down :)

    Can't say enough how thankful I am for this video. Calmly, logically explained, clear video and audio (not a given for many disassembly videos, sadly!), and the soothing voice helps too. Worked like a charm for my phone. Thank you very much

    Incredibly clear and precise video. If you are attempting to replace a cracked or broken screen, this is the only video you need to watch. Take note, if you can buy the new screen and digitizer with the metal bezel and frame, do so. I did not and removing the screen from the bezel/frame is no fun. LE55ONS does have another video showing you how to do this but avoid it if you can. Thank you for putting this out there!!

    Many thanks for this video; excellent recording [in procedure, clear speech, audio & video]. It is saving me £40+ by not having to use LG's 'service-centre'.

    Thanks, Nexus 4 that would go dead in 4 days when turned off now holds a full charge indefinitely. NOTE: The Nexus 4 is a backup as I now have a 1+1. Oh I love the 1+1.

    Amazing detail! Thank you sooooo much for this video! I don't see anyone else pointing out all the particular components and repairing every single one. I'm not gay, but I can't help but have a bit of a man crush on you! Sorry if that makes you uncomfortable! Subbed for sure!

    Without doubt the clearest, easiest to follow strip down video I have ever seen, great video, clear, well paced commentary with good tips and hints. Wish I had watched this first, I salute you sir. And yes I am still using an old Nexus 4. Grrreeeaaattt phone with no unwanted extras or bloatware, it's a phone and I want to make phone calls. Simples...........

    Brilliant, helped replace my screen on nexus 4! I must admit that I did not manage to perform such a proffesional job. I broke two micro chips whilst lifting the flex cable of the main display! Nevertheless, the phone is working fine without any issues so far ;)

    Thanks for the very clear video. I need to replace my USB flex but can only find what I guess are non-oem versions on ebay (UK) - are they usually OK, particularly mic quality?

    just replaced that freakin bezel, thanks to your videos! Even though my back cover cracked in two places(volume and power button places). But it's not that much of a problem, since it is just matte black plastic and not the shiny dark chrome.

    Great description of the teardown!
    I replaced my lcd screen - unfortunately i have an gps issue now.
    Can't get any gps fix. I tried to lift up the gps antenna to better connect to the backcase, tried to shield the digitizer with aluminium foil and even tried to expand the gps antenna with two copper wires.
    Unfortunately i had no luck at all. I was just able to get the gps fix with thicker wires that don't fit into the case :(
    You or anybody might have any other suggestion for me what i can try?

    Worked great thanks :) The new frame I got with the LCD doesn't clip together nicely though despite what order I put it together. Small gap between the metal frame and the plastic backing on the top and bottom (Sides are ok) Anyone else had this?

    Hello,
    I need some help.
    My digitizer was dead and warranty replaced the screen with the new one. As you know original Nexus 4 screen does have a LED notification light on the bottom center and it is covered with black. I mean, it is not visible and that area is pure black. However, my new replacement has this area "transparent" and it can be directly seen.
    When I asked to them that why is the new screen replacement looks this way and they said LG provided these replacements in last a month or so. Do you know anything about this if it is true or not? I doubt that they replaced my screen with cheap and not LG branded sreen.

    This video is just more than perfection. I replaced my broken screen my self and I loved all the instruction that are perfectly timed. Without the precautions mention one can screw the phone's internal circuits at hundred different places. The love of my life, Google Nexus 4 is back with me :D

    Hey, the tutorial is great, so thank you so much for putting the time and effort in. It's greatly appreciated.
    However, I have one annoying problem... I took everything apart, as you showed, and I put everything back together, as demonstrated. But... I cannot close the case on the battery side. It closes without the battery, but the battery seems thicker than the rest of the phone, so when the battery is in, the case will not click closed in that corner.
    Any ideas/suggestions anyone?
    Thanks

    I must have watched this video 100 times ever since I first repaired my nexus 4. Very thorough presentation and although you've already opened it when you disassemble it the glued down flex cables are easy enough to detach. Thanks a lot for this!

    Thank you for the excellent video! I have watched some others, and none of them explain really how to lift the cover by releasing the clips... the just make you think that you should use leverage - which unfortunately further broke the back of my nexus 4 that was already cracked.

    Nice video. I replaced my screen fairly easy. Although now it won't turn on. Maybe the problem is that it's not charged, because when I connected displays the battery image, but when I press the power button it doesn't turn on. Could it be possible that the problem is the button?

    Great tutorial thanks!
    But I have a problem.
    After replacing the battery with a new original LG battery - everything is fine except that the phone shuts itself off when pressure is applied to the mid section of the phone.
    That is, when pinching the phone hard over the approximate area of the battery connection, the phone dies and has to be restarted.
    I am guessing something shorts or there's a bad connection to the battery but I cannot figure out what I have done wrong. Is it possible to attach the battery in a bad way?
    Or have I damaged the phone while doing the battery exchange?
    Or is it a faulty battery?
    Is it possible to prevent a possible short with tape somehow?
    Please advice - I am not getting any further and the phone is pretty much unuseable.
    (it shuts itself off when carried in a tight pocket or layed down to hard on a table for example )

    I just broke my Nexus 4 screen by dropping it on the floor. With the cracked screen I can't seem to unlock the phone to access files etc. When I connect the phone to the laptop, the laptop doesn't recognise the phone - so there's no real way to retrieve my files. I have a spare Nexus 4. If I go through this procedure will I be able to retrieve those files which are on the broken Nexus 4? Thank you

    This was a brilliant tutorial! I was able to replace my usb port following this. You just saved me $70! The most difficult part was taking the case off. It was a piece of cake afterwards.
