I followed this step by step and was able to replace my daughters phone, saving me hundreds of dollars. Thanks!
wonderful. I've watched several of these to prepare to replace my wife's D820 display and this was the best lit, camera positioned, and clearest spoken tutorial i found. well done and now i'm confident I can do this repair.
By far the best guide I've seen. Allowed me to successfully replace the screen housing and battery on my phone. Thank you!
Awesome tutorial. Just fixed my wife's phone. Everything worked out great.
Couple of comments:
There are slight differences in the models depending on when they were built. Mine for instance came off the very first batch and allows you to replace the headphone jack without taking off the circuit board cover. Your Dremel use may have been necessary because the replacement part matched a different lot.
It was very useful to see the use of a hot air gun (I used a hair dryer). That made all the difference in the world.
cheers mate, just spent 2 hours following this tutorial and my phone is working fine.
Just wanted to thank you for this video. Yesterday I changed screen for my nexus 5 myself guided by your video and saved myself at least 100 bucks. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for the video!! Bang on, clear instructions. Successfully replaced a Nexus 5's broken screen.
Thanks for the wonderful tutorial! I was able to replace my Nexus 5 screen today without a hitch. One thing I learned is to use slightly more heat than you think you'll need (using a regular hair-dryer). This helped tremendously with those parts with the sticky adhesive.
You are genius! Replaced successfully the screen. Your video is best because you provide small but crucial details that other similar replacement videos do not. Thanks a lot for this. Liked and subscribed
Great walk-through! Much appreciated, many thanks. It took me about an hour, going slow, to fix my broken screen.
I just fixed my nexus 5, screen works after an hour lol. It was pretty simple actually with the video's clear instructions. I just wanted to take my time and I made sure I followed every instruction. Thank you so much for the video!
+MrDicius933 What do you mean by the screen worked after an hour? My screen keeps blinking "Google"...
hands down, the best nexus 5 screen replacement vid. Can't thank you enough for making this, was so helpful and in-depth
Thank you!
Thank you! Fantastic walk-through. Repaired my wife's mobile and she could not be happier.
Thank you very much! your video helped me a lot to repair my wife's Nexus 5.
I especially liked your detailed descriptions of what to look for and how to pry apart all the different pieces, very helpful!
Keep up the good work!
I just completed changing my phone's screen. Its working great so far. Awesome video and good attention to detail, thanks so much! There's only one change I'll suggest: when you take out the front-facing camera (10:00) , the golden tape around the screw sits on-top of the rubber gas-kit, rather than its bottom. It's just to keep it as the phone originally was, doesn't change functionality but I thought I'd point out :)
Sourcing the screen: If you can wait 2-3 weeks and wanna be cost-effective, get it via Ali Express.
Excellent step-by-step guide. Just successfully replaced my nexus 5 screen while watching this video and pausing every 20 seconds or so. Only casualty is the selfie-camera which doesn't seem to be detected by the phone now so I probably didn't re-attach its cable completely (yes I did transfer the rubber piece and gold tape next to that camera). I might re-open everything and try to fix it but I rarely use that feature anyway. Used a replacement/frame/digitizer screen from the site in the description. The display is a little more yellow than stock, most noticeable at low brightness. Otherwise works well.
It's very helpful. I successfully repaired my broken nexus 5 following your step-by-step instruction. Thanks a lot !
This was incredibly helpful for a screen/frame replacement, thanks!
One thing I noticed you missed was a small foam washer that is attached to the front-facing camera. The only reason I noticed this was because I shattered my screen at the top and my FF camera came off with this washer attached(and some glass bits)
10x your tutorial was very useful, I just successfully replaced my mother's nexus cracked screen, and since I opened the phone I also replace the battery with a new one, I hope that she will continue using this amazing phone for at least a couple more years.
Thanks. I followed this and I now have a working Nexus 5 with a new screen.
Great step by step. Easy to follow. My Nexus 5 has gone from shattered to brilliant!
Awesome!
man, your video was so usefull you even explain about the plastics parts on the charging port, and the rubber parts on the microphone.... ....
Thank you.
Thank you very much man. I just fixed my phone and you help me walk through each and every step. Couldn't have been more easier than this. Thanks a lot man. Cheers! Keep up your amazing work.
This is one hell of a tutorial.. Replaced mine just now... thanks a lot man...
Thank you.
@Go Cell Phone Repair Thanks man, I changed the broken screen on my Nexus 5 using your instructions in less then an hour. Much appreciated for your walkthrough :)
The perfect tutorial! I just repeated the steps and everything works great!
Excellent video with clear instructions. Repaired my wife's Nexus 5 with no problem.
Mike Jones will you fix mine too 😟
best replacement video, got my phone back in no time with everything working. I must have the lower board off proper alignment I need to talk a bit louder into the mic but it still works and the usb power now goes in at a small angle. I pushed it pretty hard to make it flat and the back cover still goes on correct. speaker phone and head phone jack work perfect.
My replacement already had the rubber boots for the mic also so i didn't have to move them or the tape on the lower board.
Thanks for not leaving anything out, personal anecdotes appreciated also. Great vid!
+William Dekker Cool and thanks.
Thanks a lot for this great tutorial. I just repaired my phone by this video and everything is up and working again \o/! All the best from Germany!
Great tutorial. I've only had this phone for a day but the screen did not survive a day at the junkyard while I was removing some frame pieces. Ready to get my new screen next week. Fortunately mine just has a few cracks so it works fine.
Just finished fixing my Nexus 5 screen. Thank you so much for the tutorial. Much appreciated!
Thanks for this... just saved me having to buy a new phone. Took me less than an hour.
Thanks for the video. Easy to follow. Got my phone fixed

Thank you for the tutorial - i ordered the frame and folllowed the instructions and it works now! Thank you very much again!
Very detailed and helpful video. Thanks to you I've mange to replace mine screen and Nexus 5 gets second life.
Thank you very much for the video. We followed each step very carefully and replaced the screen of my nexus 5 successfully.
Thanks buddy, this is by far the best tutorial on youtube for the Nexus 5
jcla36 Thanks I appreciate that.
Thanks,. was a huge help, did everything step by step and seems like the phone is working without any issues :)
One of the screws was so tight in the bottom part that i actually had to dif with a knife through theplastic and just lift it off without the screw.. At times i thought it most be a miracle if this phone is going to function but all went well and did not damage any crucial parts. Thanks again!
+Jarva Lane Cool. Good to hear it.
Dude, thank you very much for this very detailed process. I am grateful and my phone's screen is perfect again!
Thanks, this was a big help! Some of my clips broke on the back cover when removing it. My replacement screen unit already had a silver/foil tape wrapped around a ribbon that you so painstakingly removed and applied.
I just replaced my damaged Nexus 5 by following this clip step by step, Thank you
Great tutorial man! Another successfully fixed Nexus 5 here!
Really helpful, solid tutorial! Thank you!
Now I'm just waiting for the new battery to arrive, it will be like a brand new phone.
Thanks.
Only one that put tape on the screen, VERY SMART TIP. Thanks!
Thank you. Useful step by step. Change the LCD panel. Works like before cracking. Good luck.
Great video!!! Thanks a lot for sharing it. My phone looks brand new now.

Great Video, Always watch to the end at least once before attempting anything like this kids!
TNX. A LOT man, everything according to video has proven to be right! Just follow these steps.

Cool. Thank you.
thank you for your great video, I follow your steps one by one for replacing the screen and every function of the cellphone worked and the screen connected well and worked.
I just followed what you told and it was a sweet.. thanks a lot for sharing the procedure.. you are just awesome :)
Thanks a LOT! It was super easy to replace mine with your tutorial!
i did this last night. pretty helpful tutorial. just my 2 cents: wouldn't it be easier to unglue the battery after removing the main board? there is more room to work with and lesser risk of damaging tiny components.
+Syed Hashmi Yes. That is a great suggestion.
Great video, thank you very much. I was able to fit back panel with out removing that peace of plastic above USB port (on 1:57). You just need to put bottom part first and than kind of of close it pushing it down. Cheers
Just completed. Exactly spot on in every detail. Thank you so much. Saved me a small fortune!
Great Instructions, worked like a charm.
Thank you so much for your video! really informative, just now finished fixing a nexus 5 from watching your video!
Amazing video! Just replaced my screen and actually ripped the white antenna cable....and everything still works! LOL
@Rohan Panicker In some cases yes. You'll have to click through the link and see if there is an option for international shipping.
I really thank you for this tutorial. I've just replaced the screen. The only problem is the vibrator. It doesn't work and don't know where is It located. Any idea? Thanks a lot!
It's on the rear panel. You can see it briefly at 01:45.
apparently it works now... So thank you!
Worked great, except NFC functions no longer do. Any ideas? I'm gonna pull it back apart tonight and see if anything's obviously disconnected.
Hey! tanks, I was follow step by step and every goes excellent, there was only one issue. The new screen has a tiny excess of plastic on volume area, but I removed it whit a cutter very carefully and tha was all, my nexus 5 say you tank you too.
I'll add to the praise. Thanks for the great video! Repair was a success thanks to you.
first time replacing a screen and this video was perfect for it... thanks a lot :)
Thanks. Great tutorial. Now I have a new mobile again!
Great video, thanks a lot! Just replaced my nexus screen.
Excellent tutorial! Congratulations and thank you very much!
No problem.
Your video was really easy to follow. And I got my phone fixed. But, my keyboard is not working properly. The letter O doesn't work. When I click O , i and p comes.
Is there a way to rectify this problem? Please help.
Suhas Anjan You can try reconnecting the digitizer cable but if it's only one specific spot in the screen that sounds like a defective part.
Go Cell Phone Repair Exactly! The part was defective that I got from Amazon :/ Had to send it back.! It was fun though. I've never done something as huge as this! :P :P And I have to say. Your video was really easy to follow that the others! (y)
Keep up the good work mate! :D
Hi. Thanks for the detailed instructions/video. I followed each step as-is in the video. My phone now powers on and I can hear the notification sounds (on receiving a message), but my screen still doesnt turn-on. (Though the screen does lighten up when each message is received but I cant really see anything on the screen. If you get what I am saying). Any idea what I must have done wrong or anything that I can re-check? Thanks again!!
Hard to say for sure but usually a connector that is not properly seated, defective/damaged part, or other damage to the motherboard. Did the old one light up? If so maybe you can connect it to test and rule out the part as being the problem.
Do you deliver parts to other countries? Like India? Go Cell Phone Repair
Did it fine. Took me around 1:30~2h
I just replace my screen using your video thank you very much.
You are very welcome.
Thanks so much man, do you suggest i put a screen protector on my phone?
Thanks so much again bro.
Yep. Unless you want a bulky case like Otterbox I'd recommend tempered glass. I put it on most of my phones.
Great video. Thanks. I was able to replace the screen myself. Everything is working great except for minor light bleed from bottom of the screen. It's only in the center part of bottom. I goes away when I press hard with my thumb, and comes back when I release.
Does that mean something is not tightened properly in the bottom?
Ronak Gandhi That sounds more like the adhesive isn't holding. Do you mean it's leaking from the edge of the glass part of the screen or just the visible part of the LCD withing the black border?
It's coming from edge of the screen at bottom.
I'm guessing that maybe the lens and LCD weren't fused together properly or maybe the assembly isn't sitting down all the way. adding some black tape around the edge may help but if you think that the part is defective I would try to get it exchanged if you think that you can remove it without damage. If you can post a photo I might be able to give you a more accurate response.
Go Cell Phone Repair , here's the photo of light bleeding from bottom of the screen - goo.gl/photos/NgkPUdJaqYTcxz2u9
Yes that looks like they didn't insulate the lower end properly. If you can remove it without damage I would contact the party you purchased from and explain the problem. Include your photo and they should offer you an exchange.
I tore the "foil type adhesive tap" covering the LCD flex cable. Is there any replacement for this tap or is there any way to fix this?
Please help.
Thanks Soo much for the video . I saved my time and instructions were very clear and Easy to follow.Keep up your good work.
Do you know where i can get that platic thing that goes under the earpiece?
Thanks! It took me some time but everything went just fine. Great!
Question: I have successfully installed my new screen on the nexus 5. Everything works perfectly except when in my case now speakerphone echoes for the person on the other end. The same exact case never did this b4, and it doesn't do this out of the case. I've opened the phone back up and nothing near the mic = \ suggestions?
thanks for the video but before doing this , will the phone reset and will i lose all the stuff i had on the phone
Taconda Trotter No. This should not affect your stored data at all.
Thank you so much! However I encountered a problem where I had accidentally created a hole in my battery upon removing it and could therefore smell the leak (there was also a spark). Not knowing what to do next i sealed the hole with some tape and continued to follow your instructions. The phone works perfectly fine, including the components associated with the battery (battery life is below average, although it has always been). Should there be any cause for future concern?
+Thomas Nguyen I would remove and dispose of the battery as soon as possible. Lithium Ion batteries can be very dangerous when ruptured. Besides releasing gases they can in the worse case scenario explode or catch fire. For a small price you can purchase a replacement. Also be sure to use eye protection whenever working with batteries of any sort.
Great video, very detailed explanation and easy to follow. Thank you!
Excellent video, bang on the money. Thanks for getting my phone back up and running!
Hi, Thanks for the sharing this wonderful tutorial, I have an annoying issue, you may have the experience. When I assembling top metal case, system shut downs and phone not working. I clinched screws one by one, and find the problem it is so interesting when I clinching top right screw the screen and system goes, but releasing the screw system come backs. I checked the board, under the board. I didn't see any metal or conductive material which can cause the problem, I just thought it may pressure the screen but I'm not sure do you have any idea why it can happen ? Any help would be appreciated.
+Feyyaz Esatoglu Sounds like a grounding issue or damage on the flex cable. I havent seen that happen with this phone before so Im more inclined to think that your screen may be the problem. If its possible to remove the display from the housing you could plug it into the board and try moving it a little so that the flex bends and see if that causes the same problem. Of course youd have to be very careful not to damage the display in the process.
+Go Cell Phone Repair interesting, I disasembled several times and put them together again, magically problem solved I'm not sure what was the problem. But I pressed the related point several times everything is OK. So I don't want to open again :) I will follow if it is working don't touch it principle. Thanks for the advice.
Great video and instructions, thanks - my first repair a success!
Great video, explained each step in great detail. It worked. Thanks
Thanks for the video.
When I was closing the back I accidentally cut the white signal wire and then noticed the phone won't turn on. I will order a new one to replace the cut one. However, I am wondering would this cause the issue of not turning on ? or there is something else wrong ?
It shouldn't. You might want to try checking the battery and display connectors.
I checked. Everything seems fine. I thought I punctured the battery but there was no smell.
when I charge I see the red blinking light which disappears after a while but the phone still won't turn on and heats up very much after few minutes. Is that a problem in the battery ?
They do tend to take a while to come on if the battery has discharged so that part is normal. It will also heat up during charging. The question is how much heat is too much? I can't say for sure so by all means use your judgement here. That said you _should_ be safe to charge the phone as long as the battery wasn't ruptured but I probably wouldn't leave it unattended just in case.
my battery was already bad that worked for a couple of hours only. So I tried my luck and ordered a new cheap one online and gonna replace it and try if it works.
Thanks.
Great video, saved me a couple hundred bucks! Thank you very much.
Thank you.
good afternoon. where to find the original display? thanks. In the Amazon there?
