Useful video. Thankfully my upper ball joints don't need doing yet, but I feel much more relaxed about the prospect of them needing doing having seen this. Once again, fire and a big hammer gets the job done!

i am a 75 year old mechanic this video was painful to watch .. I have replaced both top and lower ball joints on My T4 2001 VW Caravelle . oxy acetylene is a more concentrated source of heat . I never resourted to heat when I did my top ball joints . this was scary to watch.

I’m a mechanic and have seen a ball joint explode when heated up. The grease inside turns to gas . I never heat them up anymore after I saw that .

Using heat is OK but you need to be careful of the brake hose!

Burn it with fire? Isnt it easier to press it out?

Fair enough! Good video you should make some more especially with T4 a lot of people are working on their vans. Is it necessary to remove the drive shaft when doing the ball joints?@@mr.volkswagen7296

Adam Armstrong .Thanks. I Think you Can do it without removing it , but i did it becauce i was using heat . If the flame schould hit the the rubber on the CV joint
