    This should have been easy but this job turned into a complete nightmare for me. I was under the mistaken impression that pulling the fuel cap would relieve pressure in the line. I had an incredibly difficult time getting the nuts on both sides of the fuel line to seat correctly, meanwhile I'm getting covered in gas that continued to dribble from the line. For me, this was the roughest DIY job I have completed so far on my Toyota. In retrospect I would have been happy to pay to have it done for me by a pro.
    Would highly recommend attempting the steps in the comments to fully relieve pressure in the fuel system. That might have been beneficial, at least for me.
    I will smell like gas for the next three days.

    I have a 1997 Tacoma 2.4L 4 cylinder Extra-Cab so I'm guessing my fuel filter is on the engine block right under the intake manifold. I've been getting a strong smell of gasoline when I open my driver side door but I have yet to figure out where it is coming from.

    Can you disconnect the fuel system by pulling the fuse for the pump and letting the car die and therefore have no fuel in the lines making the job cleaner?

    My 99 Taco fuel filter is next to my motor under the intake. Bracket bolts was a pain in the ass, that 17mm banjo bolt had to be soaked real good. Not to mention the wire harness by the fire wall was on top of my second banjo bolt which goes to my fuel rail. I had to put up a fight every bolt I touched. And Autozone sold me a one size fits all Tacoma fuel filter BS crap, after install on the bracket, I had to loosen the lower bracket bolt and 10mm to loose filter bolt, so I can turn the filter off the 3 lines on the bracket so my fuel line to my banjo bolt to my fuel rail can be screw in. And that little crush washer was all over the place in that tight little spot. I got it done but It was pain in the ass. Next time I'm gonna modify the fuel line, and relocate that fuel filter.

    With all of these Toyota fuel filters, the first time you put them on, they will almost always leak. The threading is horrible. Then you take it off, put it back on a second time, will still leak. on the 4th, 5th, or 6th time it will eventually seal. Just keep torquing.

    • @befirstorbelast6421
      @befirstorbelast6421 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The correct answer is, if you have a 99 Tacoma V6 is under the driver's side door, but if you have a 2.4 base cab like mine, than is on your motor under the intake. Just take off your driver's side wheel and remove the rubber mud gaurd look deeeeeeeeeeeep inside and there it is. one line goes back and up to your fuel rail, and that banjo bolt is to connect everything together., and another line on the filter goes to the top driver's side front. that's the easier one.
