- If biscuits and yeast rolls had a baby, it would be angel flake biscuits. Angel biscuits are the perfect blend of flaky buttermilk biscuits and a soft squishy tender yeast rolls. They melt in your mouth and are heavenly.
In a small bowl combine:
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1 1/2 Tbsp warm water
In a large bowl combine:
2 1/2 C all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp sugar
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 C cold butter, cut into cubes
1/4 C shortening ( you can use all butter if you like)
1 C buttermilk
Dissolve yeast in warm water and let bloom. Combine dry ingredients and the cut in butter and shortening. Add yeast and buttermilk. Stir to combine to a soft dough. Pat dough on a floured surface and cut with a 3" biscuit cutter. Place on a greased pan. Rise for 1 hour. Brush with melted butter before baking. Bake at 400° for 15 minutes.

You are so welcome! I hope you enjoy them.- on the conversion for fresh milled flour the amount will be closer to 3 1/4 fresh milled. I use a combo of 2 parts soft white, 1 part hard white.

These look great! Going to try this recipe tomorrow. Thanks Dinah❤
You are so welcome- I hope you love them!
We call these yeast biscuits. A cross between a biscuit and a yeast dinner roll. Much less trouble than a traditional yeast roll. Delicious!
They are the perfect combo! Dinner roll meets biscuits.
They would have fit in a 12” skillet
For sure.
