Which wars is the United States currently involved in?

  • The first on the list is Afghanistan. Although the US left Afghanistan in August 2021, it still occasionally carries out airstrikes with drones and missiles on terrorist targets such as ISIS-K, an Afghan affiliate of the ISIS group.
Secondly, we have Iraq and Syria,
In 2014, US forces returned to Iraq under the Obama administration to combat the rising threat of the Islamic State, and they remain there today, alongside other allied forces. They also have a presence in neighboring Syria, where they work with anti-Assad rebels and Kurdish allies to fight ISIS in the region.
In Somalia, the U.S. is involved in the ongoing conflict against al-Qaida-affiliated al-Shabaab rebels. It provides funding and training to African forces that are fighting to support the weak central government in Mogadishu.
Next, we have Yemen where the U.S. is fighting against al-Qaida and the Islamic State with drone strikes.

Because we all know how profitable those opium fields are. Any argument that US wars were for money is wrong as we spent way more than we could have gotten back from theoretical resource extraction. Even if we invaded Saudi Arabia and took all their oil it would take decades for our expenses in Afghanistan to be payed off, and I doubt opium is anywhere near as profitable as oil.

Lots of commenters miss the point that the tremendous cost of war would outweigh the profit gained from stealing a give resource. The US is an aggressive imperialist power, but its motives are not oil or opium or whatever else -- it's strategic leverage of key parts of the "chessboard". Access to resources is important too, but not as vital as ppl seem to think.

    • @charlestonianbuilder344

The profit is pocketed not by the government, its mainly the bloated military industry, selling all the guns, bombs and everything in between that making a profit, and having alot of wars mean the demand is high. sure the US is in debt, but the sheer profits these corpos are racking in is a sure positive... For them, and you cant say im wrong because x y z, simply because at the end of the day even back at ww2 and probably before that, profits were to be made, and they did.

Whoever believes the "war on terror" pretext is a victim of naivety.
Syria: preventing a Russian/Iranian gas pipeline to Europe, in favor of the Qatar one.
Yemen, Somalia: protecting the Persian Gulf shipping from Iran backed rebels.
    Iraq: oil.
Afghanistan: Opium (according to the U.N., during the Allied occupation of the country, opium production doubled; quadrupled in British occupied territories.

Bruh, there is reason for the war on terror pretext as it did provide justification and is at least a reason as to the wars if not the reason that started it, with other being pluses or bonuses.
So what you are supposing is adequately described as being naivety/unaccepting of the idea of many different reasons being causes and trying to wrongfully oversimplify it, is narrowmindness or something who’s whole position is “USA/West bad”.

@@No-yn7ry I'm not sure I follow...there is a lot of good in the "West", but power politics is pretty ruthless, and most times immoral.
