This is very helpful. I have a question. When I pop in the DVD - R and the VHS, I don't get the screen that comes up to initialize. Is there a setting I'm missing or is it possibly hooked up incorrectly?

Why does the DVD-RW eject during the initializing process? Also, can't use the set-up function on the remote while the dvd is in the system.
The tuner is for antenna aswell, it clearly says "in from ant"
This is great, however, my go video screen indicates "safe" and I cannot load or eject a DVD or VHS...how do I proceed?
It sounds like yours might be stuck in protection mode. This will typically require repairs.

You will not be able to transfer VHS to DVD with that model. You can convert DVD to VHS though.
