I like how the first two are named after actual lyrics from the song, but then as the sample gets more distorted and the dementia gets worse, the names become twisted versions of the lyrics. At first being close but not quite right, and eventually becoming completely unrelated to the song. I think it represents The Caretaker forgetting the lyrics.
M1 actually has an brief moment where the first note of Heartaches plays clearly and audibly, in the same key as A1 (although it uses C3's sample). Perhaps one of the saddest moments in all of Stage 5, because it is the last time Heartaches is clearly heard in the Caretaker's life.
@KeyUploads While Heartaches is sampled in Stage 6 (as this video shows), it is so quiet it can barely be heard and the melody itself is completely inaudible. M1 has a clear and audible note of the Heartaches melody, which is the last time in EATEOT where the melody itself can be heard.
I had heard the whole thing before and never went back, but I didn't remember stages 4 and 5 to be so agressive, I remembered them to be more static instead.
My favorite personal theory about EATEOT is that "Heartaches" represents the memory of a partner that has since passed away. This is why it continuously comes back, why the Caretaker desperately wants to have the memory of their partner, willing to do everything in their power to feel the memory of them. It doesn't leave because of the desperation of the Caretaker, and it tries desperately to persist.
i find it so interesting that the same song keeps appearing. they're so desperately trying to remember that one thing, but it keeps fading and getting warped. especially how often it appears in stage 3 shows how important whatever this memory was to them, then after that it's just fragments of the way they remembered it, not always the "real" version.
7:33 Here's the thumbnail, also, the melody's location in EATEOT unintentionally spells "LISA", except that the "I" is a "1". I think it's just a coincidence.
I like how the names of songs that sample Heartaches start out as lyrics from Heartaches, but over time, that information is lost. the only evidence of that song even being remembered being reduced to a leitmotif eventually, and the only word left the resembles any lyrics from Heartaches in the titles (if any) is just some conjugation of the word "Ache." But even that is reduced to nothing at some point.
E2 just sounds like the Caretaker is rushing as fast as he can to remember before it all disappears. It just sad how a human could actually go through this but with memories distorting out of recognition.
for eateot you have to squint your ears

It could be that that particular memory is associated with someone very deep to them, like their favorite song, wedding song, or being in a ballroom
Damn, I can’t even recognize Heartaches past the second stage. Though, I guess that's the point. Haunting as all hell.
i can’t recognize it after stage 4
@@ToDCrealwhere is ToBKreal
I can't recognise it in stage 5 onward
Crazy how C3 turned to F4 then F8, and appears in G1SB, H1SC, every single stage 5 track and then O1SC
i need to be a musician to understand where Heartaches are in F5
You don’t need to be. Just listen really closely and try to hear at least a couple of notes.
From what I can tell the tempo is pretty slow in f5, and gets messed around with a lot, so you have to look more for the notes then the rhythm
Same bro the only thing I hear is a windy-like sound
