      @@Nicofumatravel I had the Viltrox 13mm f1.4, but last week I'd decided to replace it with this lens. I made a video on my TH-cam channel with it and never regretted the replacement. You should get it too. The Viltrox is good looking and is much better for photography but it's too heavy for vlogging if you hold it in your hand for a prolonged period of time.

      so low-light is determined by the cameras sensor and the fstop on the lens. The lower the fstop, the better in low light. So all of the f1.4 will be good for you. I’ll see if I can grow a test for things like autofocus though

    • @Sebartus
      @Sebartus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Yes I know but but maybe one will be better, for example a better Auto Focus. You can wait until it will be end of day ( more dark ) and then do the walking vlog test. Next test it in studio with low light. You can also do comparison APS-C vs Full Frame ( in APS-C mode ) base on this lenses.Create also the same test in good light condition - this will help people to decide what is right for them under what conditions.

    Great review, as usual. As a narrative filmmaker, I always look at lenses as to how they could be used to help tell a story. A wide angle lens like this 11mm would have a specific use. Since it does distort the head quite dramatically, I would use it to convey a character's state of mind. Mostly, a disturbed state of mind or an altered reality. Either way, it's a really good lens. And seeing that it has literally no focus breathing makes it a no brainer in those altered state of mind scenarios. Looking forward to your comparison between these lenses. Good work.

  • @panzerschreckpete
    @panzerschreckpete 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Sony absolutely blew my lens acquisition pan (and budget) out of the window with this, the 15mm and the 10-20mm. What did surprise me was the affordability. Even at NZ prices, the sony three are justifiably affordable. I already have the Sigma trio plus their 18-50mm kit lens replacement, but the 11mm expands the potential field of view particularly for indoors video given the low light capability. I see the 10-20mm as a very practical purchase as well, given that the Tamron equivalent is close to the same price, while the 10-18mm Sony predecessor was a PoS lens in terms of QC and was very overpriced for what it delivered. I think the 15mm will be the more aspirational of the trio, as I already have the Sigma, but one huge factor is the size and weight advantages of the new Sony lenses. The Sigma 16mm is a humongous beast by comparison, which is fine on a tripod or a bigger gimbal like the Crane M3, but a lot of my projects involve top down shots so lighter and smaller is a major factor.

    I haven't owned a "real" camera since my Canon T3i back about 7 years ago. Just now getting back into cameras and I'm going to grab a Sony a6100. I'm just having a toss up between the Sony 11mm 1.4 and the TAMRON 12-20MM 2.8 (which I also watched your video on). I love the flexibility to zoom in with the TAMRON but that 1.8 on the Sony really has me torn. I want to use my choice for live streaming which would be great for low light and it'd likely not get moved at all. But also I want to use the lens for TH-cam so the TAMRON would be great for that 👀 It's a tough choice. Thank you for the great videos on both lenses! ♥

    Mark, I'm torn between the Sony 11mm and the Viltrox 13mm for my ZV-E10.
    •11mm to 13mm isn't too big a deal for my needs.
    •the 13 is twice the bulk & weight
    •aside from the $100 price difference, my biggest hangup seems to be with f1.4 vs the f1.8.
    I've never owned a 1.8 or 1.4, and I am looking for a low-light wide angle lens to record indoor music stuff.
    I'm really torn 'cause they're so similar. Which do you like more if pressed to choose?
    Can I even use a gimble with the Viltrox?

      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I will be comparing the Sony 11, Samyang 12 and viltrox 13 very soon. but I can tell you the Samyang is far behind the Sony and viltrox. It’s not as good at autofocus, it has much more ghosting and flares, much worse contrast and is no where near as sharp.

    also, the ghosting and flaring you talk about at about 4 mins- are we sure its due to the lens alone, and not your zve10? because i read that zve10 was designed with this feature as well, to always keep the face well lit no matter how bright or dark the background was.
    at around 7 minutes: why is your car shaking so much!!! you cant be that heavy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 i am guessing its a side effect of catalyst browse or active steady shot?

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I make vertical videos with my steadicam and my canon 10-18mm doing myself an adapter for that purpose, I like the way it looks, but sure, the problem is that 4.5, I was filming cosplayers at a local convention and I feel like the 3.5 from the 10-22 could be the least for a nicely brighter image, a full frame along a 16mm f2.8 would be ideal... but this lens in the very same context will be just perfect. I was going to use the widest side anyway, so that f1.8 at that darker stage, will be unstoppable.
    I have an older Sony E body and I was looking for the 16mm f2.8 just because its so small and quite wide, but I think that is no longer needed, this 11mm is my only option now.

      the gimbal choice will depend on the size ion your rig. M2S fro very small - m3 for a bit bigger. you can put your filters on the Sony lenses yes. If the lens is 77mm it will fit perfectly, if the lens is smaller, you'll need step-up rings. They are very cheap

    Do you think APSC images have more vibrant color than full frame? I noticed my cat’s green eyes seemed to stand out more on Sony A6600 with Sigma 18-50 2,8 than on Sony A7IV with Sigma 28-70 2.8. Wondering if more concentrated color on smaller sensor. Sort of favoring APSC, especially the lighter weight.

    In your opinion, what's the better lens to purchase for a ZV-E10 when doing overall filming for TH-cam? I bought my daughter a ZV-E10 - Sirui 35mm Nightwalker lens, and I have the new Sirui 23mm Sniper on the way. But I feel like I made somewhat of a mistake and should have gotten her an all around good lens for everyday filming first. The included lens with the ZV-E10 (16mm-50mm) is not sufficient for her to do quality work, in my opinion. Anyway, I have watched both of your videos on the Sony 11mm and 15mm. Along with plenty of other videos you provide on your channel. Great work by the way. Are either of these a good choice, or is there another option you would recommend that I purchase? I am thinking $300-$650. Not sure if that's a decent amount to work with. Any information would help. You have reviewed so many lenses and done all the work, so I trust in your opinion and I appreciate all of your efforts and knowledge. the sigma 16 1.4 is the best value high quality lens. the Sony 15 is probably the best apsc lens available for video. it’s a wide field of view, but not too wide - the zv-e10’s stabilization works better with the 15 than 3rd party lenses. The 11 is pretty much the perfect vlogging lens.

      that is the zv-e10 (and the FX3). Anytime a “power zoom” is not connected and you accidentally hit the zoom rocker it will display the message, I’ve asked Sony to give an option to turn it off in a firmware update, but so far no luck.

    Important question!! I have the Sigma 16mm that I use and enjoy as my ultra-wide angle lens and studio lens for talking head, but I want a smaller lens for vlogging (the Sigma is too heavy and it could be wider). I was offered a $190 trade-in value at a local camera store for it, would it be a good choice to trade it for the Sony 11mm f1.8? The only thing I'd be missing from it is a go-to studio lens with the really nice bokeh. Thanks Mark!

    Hi Mark! I was hoping I could get some advice. I have recently purchased my own “little Dougie” which I am planning to use for vlogging an upcoming trip. It’s my first interchangeable lens camera so brand new to the world of lenses. I love the wide angle look and was going to purchase the Sony 10-18mm but saw the new 10-20mm and decided to go for that. I have been testing the ZV E10 & 10-20mm lens for a few days and although it looks great I have a few concerns. I am having to put the footage through Catalyst to stabilise so filming with 1/200 shutter speed as you suggested, which is fine (in daylight) I took this out this evening and with the 1/200 it’s just so dark! (F4 & Auto ISO where I increased to max) I can hardly see myslef. I will be planning on vlogging days and nights so thinking this will be a problem. My question is. Do you think I should go for the Sony 11mm lens instead? It’s still wide but much better at handling low light…right? Or would the low light issue be the exact same as the 10-20 because I would still be filming with 1/200 shutter? (Hope i made sense 😅) thanks

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 11 will be much better - the 1.8 lets in almost 8 times the light as an F4. Also, catalyst works really well these days - so you can leave your shutter speed at 1/50 and still get very good results. If you are moving quickly - you may want to bump it to 1/100. But try the f1.8 and the shutter of 1/50 and your problems in lowlight should be solved

    Does it work with Catalyst Browse? If it has no in-lens stabilization, it also has no in-lens gyro+probably). I don't know what - in normal conditions - generates this gyro data for Catalyst Browse. Is it in-lens gyro chip or in- body gyro chip?

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis

      the gyro data is recorded by the camera. it does communicate with the lens, which is why you need a lens that autofocuses. But Catalyst Browse will work with any lens that has autofocus.
