I’m Impressed by how you were able to edit the URL for your skillshare promo. It’s one of those things I’ll think about randomly probably forever, how you happened to have enough space in the way you worded it to add the extra R and 1 so naturally.
It’s one of those life things that I get a kick out of. If nobody else has given you a thumbs up for that, here it is, good job.

I use the Tamron 11-20mm for real estate. Since I mostly shoot indoors, I could use more light, but I'd take the zoom feature over a faster lens when I'm trying to get in and out of shoots.

@@tenphan0n0 I too like the versatility of a zoom lens especially after having lots of primes, and F2.8 isn't too bad. I've recently picked up the 17-70mm F2.8 and it's now my goto lens of choice for everyday shooting.

This lens seems super impressive. It has really intrigued my interest, as I do a lot of close range photography at events. It's always hard to get full body shots with anything higher than a 30mm lens when you're only 3-5 feet from a subject with a crop sensor camera. That aperture is soooo good at 1.8.

Going after? I don't know. It's a good alternative for those with pay double the price of the sigma or four times the price of the samyang, I bet they also perform much better, but they're not really targeting the same customers. And honestly with its lack of OSS I wouldn't even pick the 10-20 over the old 10-18 if they were the same price. But... it's good that Sony is áctually designing APS-C lenses again. I just wonder if this comeback is in time to convince people they are actually not abandoning APS-C after all.

Sony is not only 1mm wider which is a big bonus but it is also 3rd of a stop brighter. Also not to mention it is smaller and lighter a bit. but the biggest issue of the rokinon which nobody emphasize as much as they should is its bad CA and flare control.

I've used some of extra wide lenses (Laowa, Samyang, 7Artisans), but I've never ever been satisfied with their performance completely. I feel the f1.8 is uncessesary because often you want a wide lens to focus to infinity due to the nature of the photos it takes. It's not often I find myself wanting a shallow DOF when taking ultra wide photos. The 15mm 1.4 on the other hand is interesting, would love to see a side by side with the sigma 16mm. I still probably won't buy it though. Would have loved for a 16-35 1.8

The 1.8 is probably tailored to people vlogging. If you headshot vlog you might actually want the bokeh quite often. I think the usefulness of 1.8 is highly dependent on use. I do regularly videos of my talking head for presentations and speeches. If it wasn't 1.8 I wouldn't even consider it.

I know this is apples and oranges, but speaking about image quality and image quality only, what would you say is superior: Sony 11 /1.8 or Tamron 11-20 /f.2 (average over all focal lengths)? I'm inbetween a cheaper and smaller ultra wide prime and a vastly more versatile ultra wide zoom. I won't do astro or night, just regular low light on occasion. For reference, used prices are about 300 Sony and 500 Tamron.

I just bought the Laowa 9mm……
But for landscape + real estate, the 9mm (~13mm) seems to be still a big advantage for dramatic width over 11m (~16mm) albeit lack of AF which shouldn’t matter if not vlogging

Exactly, I’m ordering a Laowa 9mm too because of the wide angle for real state work

@@hecjvaldez I've had my laowa 9mm for two years now and it is an excellent lens. Especially for building interiors because it is a rectilinear lens; "zero-D". paid $499 then and it is still same price!

    • @twbrkfd1733
      @twbrkfd1733 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

use mine on buildings. perfect with the zero-D. Especially on big old church buildings. being manual focus isn't an issue, so don't think this Sony 11mm will help much. I don't use it for people pics.

These are tempting! I have the Fuji X mount system but the closest alternatives we have available (i.e Viltrox 13mm f1.4, Fuji 10-24mm f4) are large and heavy in comparison.

    1) SONY must have realized, that without one of these 3 new wide angle lenses, the SONY ZV-e10 wasn't really able to do its job properly!
    2) Who is going to buy CANON's new APSC cameras, with SONY nicely exacerbating Canon's problems with a severe lack of native lens selection?
    3) Your 9mm Laowa lens is not made obsolete! Auto-focus is more of a potential hindrance for Astro . . .
    4) Put your Laowa in the closet for 3 months before you sell it.

Because this is for cropped sensors, the focal length will actually be 16.5mm, how does this affect the Aperture at f/1.8? Will it still be an actual 1.8 or does that change as well to something like f/2.8?

like f/2.7 . better get an a7c than aps-c bodys. price and weight of the lenses is similar too... a7c+ sony 20 1.8 is tha way to go

What’s the full frame alternative to this, if they launched any? (I just do like 90% macro and 10% wildlife but been wanting to get an ultrawide, though none have convinced me yet… till this one, I’d get it in a heartbeat but I’m on an A7R3 not a crop sensor) :( That lens is about as wide as I’d ever need and 1.8 sounds like it’d do AMAZING indoors, or in cramped spaces where I’d wanna use this, etc.

I'm sold for this one. I currently have the Samyang 12mm manual, and the Sigma 16mm, which for my purposes are a bit redundant (bought the Sigma for the AF), bulky, and weight 3x as much as the new Sony. The Samyang AF version never really convinced me, but this one surely does.

11mm apsc is 16,5mm equivalent, so that will be no wider. And 1.8 apsc aperture will act similar as 2.8 on FF.
Only reason to buy 11mm is size and weight. Or if your camera crops in certain video modes maybe.
