Kevin told the Santa he knew how it worked. A lot of parents tell their kid that the mall Santas are Santa's helpers. Otherwise kids ask how Santa can be in multiple places at once. So Kevin assumed the Mall Santa would give his request to the real Santa.
Marv and his epic scream will always be hilarious. Can remember seeing this as a kid and that scene with Tarantula made me lose it laughing. Kevin sure gave the wet bandits a memorable Christmas.
Scranton to Chicago is a 700 mile, drive, though the McCalister's live in north Chicago, which would add another 40-50 miles(about 1200 km) today its possible to make the drive in a car in about 11 hours if you don't stop. They are driving a U haul, which probably is limited to 55 mph, add probably 3 meals and probably 4 refuelings, and its about a 16 hour drive.
Good catch on them throwing Kevin's ticket into the garbage accidentally. There's a lot of reasons for why they don't realise Kevin is with them, such as the parents flying a different class than their kids, and because they threw out the ticket, they weren't questioned at the airport for having an extra ticket with no owner.
The musician guy who gives her the truck ride is played by John Candy. He has a lead role in the movie "Cool Runnings", a wonderful, inspirational movie based on a true story.
Nobody from the neighborhood came out from the noise because none of them were home. They were all on vacation. That's why Harry and Marv were able to rob every single house
In the Sikh religion, men do not shave, which is why you don't know about "after shave" lotion, which has rubbing alcohol in it, and on freshly shaved skin, it stings. Lots of young men, using it for the first time, are surprised by this. But, that is why you didn't get that joke. I really enjoyed your reaction. :D
As a kid I just thought it burned the skin a bit and being a kid he can't handle it like shampoo in the eyes, I knew it was after shave and what it's for I just didn't understand that shaving was the reason it stings
The actor that plays The Polka King who offers Kevin's Mom a ride in the truck is played by John Candy. He's deceased now, but has played in a lot of great comedy movies. My favorite one is called Uncle Buck, and I would like to recommend it to you. It also stars Macaulay Culkin, who plays Kevin in Home Alone. I think you both would really enjoy it. A real feel-good comedy starring a wonderful actor.
Btw nobody in the US middle class has such a large house, Kevin's dad must be rich But this was an era when American TV liked to portray an idealistic life, so a lot of TV characters lived way beyond their means
I went down my stairs on a sled 🛷 after watching this as a kid, only bad thing is my front door didn't line up like Kevin's so I just landed in the closet 😂
I like this movie! In italy is isn't aired traditionally for Christmas, because it was aired for the first time in october, I think. But this year it was aired on December, the 23th, and I watched it... yes, it's a good Christmas movie! :)
The original 1990 Home Alone film worked because Kevin in-spite of everything he was still a child and the character was written to be, he had the irrational fears of a child and not being able distinguish fact from fiction, to often writers will put adult words in kids mouths. The viewer is basically seeing the world through Kevin with him frequently looking up to someone or someone looking down on him.
And this is one of his greatest scores. I wish it was possible to fully discuss the ways he interweaves the various musical themes in the underscoring. The song, "Somewhere in My Memory," which is heard with lyrics as Kevin is walking home feeling lonely, seeing happy families together through lighted windows is heard throughout in various mutations, as is "Star of Bethlehem," one of the songs sung by the choir in the church. Both are original compositions by Williams with lyrics by West End, Broadway, and Hollywood songwriter Leslie Bricusse. Listen closely to the end of "Somwhere in My Memory," and you'll notice that Bricusse skillfully manages to place the emotionally charged words "family" and "home" right next to each other at the song's final cadence. I find it incredibly powerful.
It is after 9pm on Christmas Eve. People attend Midnight Mass at the church so it makes sense that not many people in the neighborhood are home. Midnight Mass ends after 1 o'clock in the morning.
