Nobody in the US goes into the restroom to watch other people do their business.
The nervousness of realizing someone can see you take a dump because the joints are super wide is real.
@@ibrohiem Not if you're from here. That's just 100% normal. Do people in Europe obsess about being seen to have normal bodily functions? If so WTF is wrong with them?
except my cats.
@@jabbott6748 The only time it's actually an issue is the rare times the stalls don't have a door. That's super awkward and your sitting there hoping no one walk by.
@@ibrohiemNobody from the U.S. would dare watch you through the gaps in the doors. That would be an easy way to lose your teeth. It doesn’t happen. You may have someone, quickly, glance to see if the stall is open if the toilets sit further back and you can’t see feet, but privacy isn’t something to concern yourself about.

This woman desperately needs to get out of LA so she can see how the rest of us live. :)
Why? Maybe people in the Midwest should visit Cities and see how most Americans live. More Americans live in big cities than in rural areas now.
@@LancerX916 Those aren't Americans.
@@LancerX916 I have lived in 3 different countries and 12 different states, including Comifornia. I now live in the Midwest and I am totally enjoying being around SANE people.
@@LancerX916 Why? So we can experience getting mugged, car jacked and pay double what we do in the rest of America? Big city is horrible compared to most of the US. I don't want to have to step over homeless people and see poop on the streets, trash everywhere, have to travel underground in basically a sewer full of rats and worse. No thanks, I will stay in small town Alabama where people are nice and if they are not I have the right to defend myself.
@@Nottoday712 People like Lance live in a bubble where only the people in cities matter. If he looked at the presidential map from 2024 he'd see that those people are insignificant and make up 30% of the country or less.
The public bathroom crack thing is very often exaggerated a lot in these kinds of videos.
Which the truth is that gap is actually an emergency safety feature. It makes for the fast removal of the door if someone has had a stroke, heart attack seizure or other medical emergency, by first responders.
Those who aren't Americans also don't realize that the gap is normal, and has never had the reason why the gaps on the sides of the door exists explained. But once it's explained as an emergency feature for rapid entry, most get it, then they often end endorsing it.
I am not being smart, but I have a serious question: are you American, and if so have you been to Europe, or most commonwealth countries? I ask because to you it may seem exaggerated, but the gap is not a thing in those places
@@SJHFoto yes, I’m from Chicago and have been to France, England, Mexico and Canada. While I understand there is no gap in other countries, the description of it in many of these videos make it sound like it’s the Grand Canyon.
@@SJHFoto, I'm also an American. No I haven't been to Europe. Simply put it's well beyond my financial ability to go there. I was lucky enough as an adult to go to Canada in the 1980s.
Many times Europeans are shocked at the gap when they come here the first time. Which normally isn't as big as seems to be so exaggerated by Europeans to be, who often making their first visit to the U.S.
I had one European when I explained the reason behind the gap serving as a safety feature that it made sense. A Brit even jumped in and said that now they knew why the gaps existed, and it was actually a good design.
Which that information later helped me know why the door was off the men's stall. A man had had a stroke while sitting on the toilet. He did survive the stroke, and the seconds it took to remove the door, made a difference in getting to him, and saving his life.
@@vernonharden I wasn't saying that there wasn't a good reason for it. I just find that for a lot of people from the States, they are surprised (and some are even offended) if other people do things a different way. I moved to the States many years ago and I found this to be the case. And even online, I find that many Americans assume that every English typer is also from the States and some get put out when they discover that someone is not from the USA (Again, that's not ALL Americans, and I am not trying to bash on anyone)
"Now I live in America... in Los Angeles."
Let me stop you right there, chief.
Its still the US.
@joseherrera8489 _technically_ I suppose you're right but idk man
@@joseherrera8489 LA, southern California at large, is some kind of "JJ-verse reboot" version of the TOS USA.
Last time I checked, LA is very much in America.
I think the OP's point is that in many ways, L.A. is not representative of the rest of the U.S.
Don't know where she is grocery shopping but cashiers generally put items in the bag right after scanning.
North America fought for tax not to be included on price tags. They did this because governments were just raising taxes whenever they felt like it and you couldn’t tell otherwise. It was a political movement to maintain transparency on tax rates.
If it was included as a separate line item and then the total, I think it would be better: "jeans $20, sales tax$1.40, total $21.40" Hidden taxes like the VATs are evil, but being able to tell if you can afford all you are getting as you go is worthwhile too. OTOH, in general, sales taxes are usually nowhere near the level that VATs represent, so it is rarely too onerous. If you follow discussions of the FairTax (a national sales tax to replace all other national taxes), part of the requirement is to post the bottom line total as well as how much of the sales price is tax, so that it is transparent.
@@thomasmacdiarmid8251it's not really hidden. You know it's included in the total price
If you look at the receipt it does that. Total before tax. Then a line for tax. then the total after tax. Also, putting that on the items before you buy wouldn't work at all. My grocery store does not tax the store brand but does tax famous brands like Coke. It's much easier to just let the machine at the end add the tax to certain items that it needs too. Always, add 10% to the item you are buying.
@@tspawn35 10% is well above the rate that applies in most areas, but your point stands, and of course, most Americans do that for a rough approximation. Another reason not to do that is that the tax canonly be ab estimate until the full purchase is made, since the tax is applied to the total - often the tax will be a little less per item than if you bought them separately.
The lack of tax in store-brand items is odd though. In most areas that would not be legal, as it is still a retail purchase. Perhaps your store(s) make it a selling point for their brands that they cover the sales tax out of the transaction. I know a few stores that do that: the state's and county's tax is actually imposed on the sellers, who are invited or required to pass the tax on to the buyers.
@@sharnadixon-scott710 Just like Americans know that corporate taxes, payroll taxes, property taxes, etc. are built into the price of what they buy? Really, if it is not on the receipt or price tag, it is 'out of sight, out of mind', and the vast majority of people will never think about it. That is a stated purpose of VATs - to not remind the purchasers how much of the purchase price is tax.
This lady needs to see AMERICA, not just L.A. She has a very simplistic view of "America". One of her complaints is about supermarkets. With all the truly great comparisons of life in the US vs life in Australia, she chooses supermarket checkout lines. Okay, we'll go with that. For decades, my supermarkets in my small New England city, and now in my slightly larger city in Florida, have had baggers who bag groceries as the items are scanned. By the time I have to pay, all my groceries are bagged, in the cart, ready to be taken to my car. AND I can have someone walk me to my car, unload my groceries into the trunk, wish me a good day, and take the cart back to the store for me. I find it hard to believe they don't do that in a great, modern city like L.A. But maybe I'm wrong. I live 3,000 mile to the east of L.A. Things might work differently there.
I can't stand people like this lady who thinks she knows all about living in the US after living in one city for a few years. Honey, I've been to many places in the 77 years I've been alive and living in America. I learn something new every day about what it's like to live in different places in this enormous country. Like I just learned that checkout lines at grocery stores in L.A. are crazy slow. According to her. What she needs to learn is that in America, it ain't the same everywhere. You can't make generalized blanket statements about all of America. It's misleading to your viewers, and sometimes it borders on being judgemental. You are no expert on life in America.
You are the one that sounds judgmental & ignorant. LA is a great American city & she was going off her experience of living here.
I’m sorry but majority of people that travel to the states aren’t buying plane tickets to some rural town in Kanas, they want to see the big cities or some national parks.
@@lovesgucci1right? I’m a 3rd gen Angelena and when I’ve traveled elsewhere people are ruder and more judgemental than in LA. Try being a disabled woman and go elsewhere and maybe people will obnoxiously pray over you but they definitely won’t help with doors. They’ll just stare and ask why I’m there and that’s without knowing anything about me. Maybe LA is just a better place than the rest of the US and everyone else is too butthurt their hometown is full of outright bigots they have to put the big cities, especially LA, down.
When she talks about bagging in the stores, that varies per store and employee. I get both ways in my city in Ohio. Merry Christmas to you and your wonderful family!
We used to have a lot of 24 hr stores/groceries, but ever since the pandemic most are not open all the time. However, a lot of them are still open most of the day, like 6am to 10pm or midnight.

Yes, she is living in Los Angeles! 😅 It is great here, but don't tell anybody!
There isn't one thing on her list that doesn't apply to the rest of the country. Your town probably isn't as diverse as LA and I occasionally find a gas station out in the boondocks that has the old style pumps and let's you pump and pay later like the 1970s but it's rare. I don't want to live there but this whole "big cities aren't real America" thing just makes you look silly.
I live in Seattle, everything she said applies to Seattle.
Believe me i won't. @jamesmcclain5005
@@Adiscretefirmbig cities are real America, but a very different part of it than suburban and rural areas. A lot of what she says is about larger cities like LA. Smaller towns don’t have shops that stay open late, don’t have free wi-fi in many of the shops, diversity is not as common in smaller towns and in most suburban areas (people just seem to assemble by choice in neighborhoods of similar people) diversity and is not as prevalent. Taxes change based on local government-I think that’s one reason why we don’t worry about tax added later. Participate in your local/state politics (the city can change their sales tax during the year.) they fluctuate based on the needs of the community. Yes, it would be better to know what the tax is always, but I think that’s part of why we charge the price, then add the taxes.
California's major cities don't represent main street America..
The advantage over income tax is more for Americans. We can see if our government is charging too much in taxes. Some countries pass laws without telling the public and/or you have no say, even if you did know. We can sue our gov't over laws we feel infringe to much or we feel are unconstitutional. We also have watch dog groups that take account of these things and let the public know. We can look up any new bills or laws. Not enough people take advantage of this, but it's available. We keep the gov't accountable. Still gov't lies, but we have recourse.

Turning right in a red light after checking for traffic was instituted during the 1970s oil embargo. The reason was to conserve gas. It was estimated that an average car uses about a cup of gas/ minute of idling. If one calculates the savings on about two hundred million vehicles in the US, one can see the savings in gas consumption.
It also helps with congestion.. it keeps traffic flowing..
aussie has ALWAYS had pay at the pump FFS - she's more referring to Aussies pay at the counter AFTER fueling; US pay BEFORE at the counter.
The prevailing rule in the United States is that you can make a right at a red light after coming to a complete stop unless a sign indicates otherwise. The only significant exception to this rule is New York City where "right on red" is prohibited unless expressly permitted.
In NYC, they can ticket you for parking in a spot by a meter that's expired just as you get out to feed the meter to park.

Not all US states charge sales tax: Florida, Texas, Alaska, Nevada, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming, Tennessee, and New Hampshire.
California, Hawaii, New York, Connecticut, Illinois, Vermont, Virginia, Main, New Jersey, Delaware, and Montana have the heaviest state sales income taxes.
Most of the states in your first list DO have sales taxes. I’m not sure what you mean in your second list. Montana doesn’t have a sales tax. Its personal income tax is between 4-5%, depending on income. What are you trying to say?
@@pacmanc8103 Their first list looks like the states that don't have an income tax. The gas/petrol used to be the same way, pay after you pump. Unfortunately, in late 2008 when gas prices shot over $4 a gallon jackasses began to drive away without paying and thus paying before pumping became a thing.
Garage? Is that equal to our corner store? Or is this someone's private garage. I've never heard of it meaning more than where you park your car or a place where you take your car to be repaired.
Garage is what the Brits call a Gas Station.
Once upon a time in America, just about every gas station was also a garage...garage = any gas station with one or more service bays where a mechanic can work on your car. There still are some around, often neighborhood gas stations.
History lesson, the right turn on red thing only goes back to about 1980 or so. The idea was that you would waste less fuel if you could make a 'safe' right turn at a red light instead of sitting there with the engine idling.
Right turns on red after coming to a complete stop is allowed in every state I'm aware of unless there's a sign specifically prohibiting it. Just my observation from 30 years of trucking in all 48 lower states.

Part of n the reason for the gaps in the stalls with the doors is for safety purposes. Which in emergency situations it's faster and easier to remove the door with the gaps. The problem with tight fitting doors in such a situation is that they can get jammed, and hinder progress min an emergency situation. This is so that when the door is latched it can be removed with quicker ease in an emergency.
Which most Americans generally don't know the reasoning for the gaps on each side. Yet once it's explained most grasp the concept, and the idea that it might actually someday save their life. I remember explaining it to someone from Europe once online, and when they saw the explanation, they said it actually made sense.
Yes here in California you may proceed with a right hand turn at a red light if it is safe to do so 🙂
Unless posted "NO turn on Red", you can turn right on a red in the US if it is clear of on coming traffic/pedestrians.
What people in the videos miss is that you have to stare and get close to the door frame to actually see anything. Which means you are going to get your forehead bounced off of a door hinge. We ain't putting up that for a second.
9:00 that is LA not the rest of the USA
Any place in America you can turn red on a red light unless a sign says otherwise and if it's a oneway streets you can turn left on a red onto a oneway street. Not sure if all states allow the turning red on oneway streets but you can in the Midwest
Two day shipping with Amazon still blows my mind. Those delivery vans are everywhere at all times. And it's a pretty rural city here. That said, I would still probably prefer the stores just be stocked. But I think they're concerned about theft right now.
NYC doesnt allow Right on Red anywhere. Check the internet if youre not sure. Check the DMV (Driver motor vehicle) online.
I did not know that. Never been to NYC. What is the reason for it? Oh wait cameras catch you and give the city money. What a crappy place that must be to live in.
The tax coming up when you get to the register is so you see how much tax you had to pay. It’s a side affect of our distrust for government 😂
The reason the United States adds the tax at the register is because it is illegal not to do so. Americans have the right to know what the tax is for and what percentage you are paying. This is why it is added to your total. Depending on what state, city, or town you live in determines the tax you have to pay for items. Every state is different. The US can not just add a 20% VAT tax on each and every item without explanation like Europe does.
Visibility in toilets are chamging but not soon enough.
The price listed in stores is the price the store is charging you. Not what the store and the government is charging you. It does let people know that they are paying more and the government has something to do with it.
There are nearly 10,000 different taxing authorities (between states, counties, cities, special tax districts) and jurisdictions in the U.S. because America loves taxes that much. It would be ridiculous to require manufacturers to put the proper price tags on things when they have no clue where that thing they just manufactured is going to be sold.

I have lived in the states all my life. I have yet to find a public bathroom where the doors were that open. Those that have the higher opening under the door are there so someone can walk past, stoop down and see if someone is in there before jiggling the door and disrupting the person.
Now, back 30 years ago and before, each grocery store had BAGGERS. As the items were either manually rang up or later scanned, the item was Sid all the way back to there the bagger was, and he or she would put them in paper bags. They don’t offer paper bags in most store anymore. But it was quicker a long time ago. But then they had to hire more staff just to bag groceries. And why everyone judges the entire country on one or two states is just not right. They may hate some, but have not been in the better, quieter states with less crime. States that are not as popularly mentioned. But are some of the best in the country.
I have done some thinking on this. In countries like England and Australia (and I suppose Jersey), since you drive on the left side of the road, it would be nearly impossible to turn left at a red light because of the way things are arranged.
You can have the free turn lanes on the left and give way to left turning traffic instead though.

They’re hoping you’ll buy that last minute pack of gum or candy bar at the checkout so they can squeeze more money out you that’s why they’re so slow. I think they’re told to be that way.
If you log onto free WiFi, you MUST get a VPN, otherwise you will get hacked!
Yes we do have bugs in LA…😂
Every gas station in BG Kentucky has a place to pay at the pump.
I live in a smaller city in the southwestern part of the US. At some of our stores, if it’s not a self-checkout, the cashier bags as she rings the items up and places them in your cart. At other stores the cashier rings the items up and pushes them down the counter and someone is there to bag your items, put the bags in your cart, and if you agree, they will push the cart out to your car and then load them in the car for you. No tip required, just a smile and a “Thank you! Have a good day!”
What small city? Without this context, your post is meaningless.
@@davidcosta2244 Why do I have to tell you where I live? It's a small city in the southwestern part of America....nuff said.
@TheCrazyNette I already posted why, so read my post again. Methinks that you're one of these types that are so paranoid to just say the city, yet you have no problem using a public WIFI without protections.
You're definitely a leftist, since your posted response is so defensive.
@TheCrazyNette Based upon how defensive your response is, you're definitely a moonbat leftist that's paranoid of someone finding them from just a city name. Yet, you probably have no issue with using a public WIFI without protections.
Again, your previous post has no meaningful points if one can't relate to where your city is.
Uhhhh...she's in LA. There is a long debate going on (in my head) whether or not that is really part of the US.
IMO, it's a protectorate of the US but has it's own sovereign government, kinda' like the Isle of Man and the UK...
Socialist occupied America.
A window of 'what if' where we wonder what the US would be like if conquered by a ghey/pedo Mao.
No bugs, because lots of birds and lizards...
Fun fact my state is one of 6 without sales taxes! We've high property taxes which is the way it should be! In 1935 ore was 1st in nation to institute sales tax! The funds generated via sales taxes were so misused abused by state lawmakers sales tax was repealed and never reinstated cuz we can generate more$ taxing businesses!
I have never noticed the crack in the door in a bathroom stall. The gap at the bottom shows nothing, but possibly feet, but only if you bend down to look under. I have never heard of someone being looked at through either opening. If someone does look through any opening, they have to make an obvious attempt. Taxes not included on the price shows the consumer the actual retail price for the item. Taxes vary from State-to-State and even City-to-City, so I like being able to see the actual price the seller listed on the item. Once you know this, there's not an issue, but I can see where it's confusing the FIRST TIME you buy something. Oh and LA & NY do not represent the Country. Their cultures are both VERY different from each other/the rest of the Nation. We Americans visit these cities to experience a different culture than the "USA" we are used to...ugh.
They won't put everything in your shopping bag cuz u have to pay first! When I was a child they bagged then u paid and the stores ended up with too much theft! People would just grab the packed bag and steal ! I asked about this change and theft was the answer I got!
Do not look (in other bathroom stalls! I do not know any store in South Carolina that doesn't bag; in many grocery stores there is a person, especially to do that.
There are bugs in a lot (most) of the U.S.
Not every state has sales tax (5 do not).
No no no on the price tag. We keep the tax separate so that you know what the government is taking. The math isn't hard to do in your head.
No turn on red if a railroad track is nearby. RR's have right of way.
3:59. Wait till you experience a left on red. Now that doesn't feel right
i kind of miss when everything was closed on Sundays. and we just relaxed.
5:45 Variety is good, but the problem in the USA now is lack of a unified culture as we've allowed ethnic divisions along cultural lines to become more important than our unified culture of the American Way, (freedom of determination, speech, laws and national sovereignty). We argue over the sins of the past, most now generations old and toss out buzzword phrases from fringe sociopolitical ideologies. Without the unified American culture that built this country, despite growing pains ... the USA will just get worse. Look at Germany as a good example of how cultural integrations without all abiding to the unified culture has been causing so much turmoil in the nation and other parts of the EU as well.
