  • This is probably my most asked question so today we have a bike check video covering component choice and suspension set up, then I take it for a spin to see what it can do!
    This is also the first video where Fraser is acting as my dedicated filmer...it makes my life a lot easier and in my opinion really ups the quality of the video...I'd love to know your thoughts as I'd love to have him help out more often.
    Please give Fraser a follow on instagram too @fraserhand_ as he is a very good rider in his own right, he also dabbles at TH-cam @fraserhand lets see if we can nudge his followers up a little bit.
    If you're in Wales and fancy an adventure then please consider booking a tour with Corris Mine Explorers, I had a blast!

  • @PunchingCacti
    @PunchingCacti ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You should do a series where you learn a new dirt jump skill in each video.
    I think the future of trials really is going to be a big meshing of the different disciplines.
    In the future people will have to be really well rounded riders who can "Jib" as you all it but also huck a drop or whip a gap
    Because a well rounded rider like that can ultimately put out the most interesting type of content
    Guys like you and danny doing trials techniques on capable enduro/trail bikes and making it look so good will be the precursor to that IMO
    A ton of trials techniques/ tricks make a ton of sense in the context of a technical slopestyle/urban freeride so I think it makes sense that you will see trials riders learning to jump/freeride and also slopestyle guys learning different trials techniques

    Wow fast rebound, I want to know what you run for rebound when you ride trails and even jumps. Seriously high level riding, it looks so fun blasting up those huge rocks! Surprised you run 10 psi less up front, maybe I've been running my front tires way too hard

  • @lynxg4641
    @lynxg4641 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ai, by my calcs, if you ran the 30t ring, you'd be 1/2 way between your current ratio and using the 21t cog, from 32.1 to 34.2 vs 36.7 if you dropped down to the 21t. Your pressures aren't as high as I'd imagined they would be.
    Also, from a shooting perspective, you should have stayed with your first angle and sun somewhat behind you, created really nice lighting with the backlight helping you and the bike stand out from the background, vs with the sun in front where I found you "blended" into the background.

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s one way that could work but like someone else commented going to shorter cranks would stiffen up the best slightly and I think that would be a great way to go as I maintain the ground clearance of the smaller chainring and also gain a bit of clearance with the shorter cranks. I appreciate your quick maths though 👍🏻

    • @NickBosshard
      @NickBosshard ปีที่แล้ว

      Did the same calculations without realizing you already commented it lol. But after some more quick calculations, the force on the pedal would be roughly the same staying with the 28t but switching to a 165mm crank compared to 175mm cranks and a 30t.

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh I absolutely use all the travel at times, bigger drops and taps (hitting the front wheel to boost up the face of a rock) tend to be the biggest impacts

    • @SidneyDurant
      @SidneyDurant ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Just 5mm sag is so little for me, coming from a trails background, and not a trials one.
      By the way, you mentioned wanting a slightly higher gear ratio, and wanting shorter cranks. Shorter cranks have an impact on the perceived gear ratio (you have less leverage, so the gear ratio feels harder). Maybe going down to 165's or 170's could be the ticket. 30 to 28 is a ~7% difference. 175 to 170 is a ~3% change
