      Denon need help with the software side and Traktor with the hardware side so its in their own interest to work together. Good luck to Traktor to regain his high position in the dj market from the past alone and good luck to Denon to get the industry standard top spot alone . Its better to share a really huge part of cake with someone else than have a small part of cake alone. I used both of your products in the past and they were great but Pioneer DJ have the greatest formula from now sorry. This need to happen !

    After testing my new prime 4 for a couple of days I can absolutely confirm on your conclusion. This is such a beautiful engineered well layout piece of hardware.
    But when it comes to software firmware and workflow is not just finished. I can't go on stage with this I'll stick to my Traktor S4 until Denon get some sense into it.

      I’m very sure that his view on the windows os and hardware at the moment is strangely off kilter for an experienced DJ and I say with a genuine respect for Chris but after nearly 10 years experience with windows/Serato/HP/Dell myself I don’t use windows or ever wish to with DJ software and hardware ever again. They Windows system is just far to troublesome on a near constant basis. Apple MacOS simply cannot be matched for this purpose and I was really surprised to see and hear Chris vehemently stating that macOS is dead for him. It’s line Lewis Hamilton giving up his supercar and hoping to win F1 with gokart!

    What about the buttons and knobs? The same cheap plastik buttons and knobs as on the MC 7000 or MCX 8000 installed? Although Denon says everything has been redeveloped/redesigned from the Ground, somehow I do not believe in it. Even the display is from the MPC X and this device has been on the market for over 2 years.

So, my decision was to get S4mk3 because of 4 reasons: 1. Software here is not even close to Traktor 2. Its not compact / mobile machine 3. The S4 rotating wheels are just amazing 4. Price. Ok it's 2019 now, but there's still some stuff that Torq was able to do even after it was discontinued that the others have only recently caught up with. if you are on MacOS there is an alternative to Engine Prime that actually allows you to keep your workflow and just convert to Prime including the original exact BPM, all cues, all loops and can be used incremental. and it will maintain 4! different backups of the Engine Library in case it gets damaged by the player.

    • @arthureschner9319
      @arthureschner9319 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jahzen7 Yes I own one. I absolutely love it. Mojaxx summed it up pretty good. Engine Prime lets it down by not not having flexible beat grids & not being able to manually expand / shrink the grids to fix incorrect bpm detections. The lack of effects on external inputs (like vinyl) is a bit of a let down too (although the filter does work). Serato integration is ok, you don't get moving waveforms on the screen but overall it works well (I don't use it though - defeats the purpose of standalone). Tidal is very useful for those oddball requests. They plan on releasing support for Beatport, Soundcloud & Some other music service (I forget what). If you install an ssd, searching is decent (gets slightly slower with larger libraries, but still acceptable). Small issues that still need to be addressed are: 1) Mic level gate threshold - Mic occasionally looses 1st word when people talk softly. 2) Record level - Level of recordings are low unless channel gains are turned much higher than usual. 3) Direct browser track preview - Ability to preview a track before loading it onto a deck. The things listed above are all things Denon have already confirmed will be addressed with firmware updates, which is now called "Prime OS" - Fancy hey! Lol!! The P4 just gets better with each firmware update. I have no doubt that with all the new hardware they just announced at NAMM 2020, the EP software will be sorted out soon too. So things are looking really positive right now. Overall the unit is rock-solid reliable and a lot of fun to play on. If you're thinking about getting one, I highly recommend it.

      My main concern is the fx for external devices such as turntables. Main reason I'm looking to switch from my SX2 to either the prime 4 an xdj xz or wait for now and see what's in the pipeline from both companies

    • @arthureschner9319
      @arthureschner9319 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shanecharley3269 Sorry for the late reply. EP is in beta stage now (V1.6beta), where they have implemented flexible beat grids and it is working flawlessly for me. Denon have also released a beta firmware for the actual P4 which has sorted out the microphone gate problem by giving us an adjustable software slider that we can now set the threshold or turn it off completely. Track preview has also been implemented & All streaming platforms (with the exception of Spotify) has been implemented. The recording level is still low but rumour has it that they might implement a record level adjustment for us. Overall the P4 has just been getting better & better with each update. I sadly doubt that we will be getting any other effects for external sources, I suspect the P4 analog circuitry is not affected at all by any software updates. So it seems like we will only ever have filters on external sources (although I could be wrong - or should I say, I hope I am)

Especially for the price your getting so much bang for your buck. I got mine through Agipro and it came with a decent case which protects the screen and snugs perfectly. Best on the market if you ask me. Especially when Denon is perfecting the firmware with updates.

  • @dj-peterofficial2753

    I got the P 4 a few weeks back and I wasn't impressed the way I wished I was. With the ''Change your rider'' I expected this to have all the basics as the ruling brand and then with the power it has a lot of extras. The extras is there, but not the basics, and that's a lot worse. Then there's a bunch of just irritating details, completely unnecessary. I've been doing this since 1985 and swapped to CD's in 1994/95 and since 2009 I use RB's USB devices. I've never used a controller except for my DDJ-RB, which sounded horrible and just confirmed my ideas about controllers... but I got it for the Rekordbox DJ software as someone suggested once. As I'm out there 15-17 days/month playing, time to change the way I play is of no interest, and probably not very possible. I can see that people coming from the controller world think they are in heaven using this for the first time, but for me, it was a huge disappointment.
    1. I need the classic CDJ mode with stutter. I set cue points on the first frame of a beat and in a noisy environment that is impossible with this unit. That destroys any perfect timing when starting tracks both channels full on.
    2. The jog is a joke. Free spinning like nothing I've used before. My 16 year old CDJ-200's does a better job.
    3. I need horizontal waveform so I was very happy when that came out the day I got the P 4. To find out how activate that on the other hand... took me half an hour and finally had to rely on TH-cam to find out. Things like that if this was in the booth for any first time user... naah. Then the disappointment when i finally got the waves horizontal going to Browse... an empty row of Crates occupying half the screen, and on the other half, fonts the size even I can reed from meters away, 7 rows of text and only half the filename that need to scroll to see the whole filename, which is how I view my music. That's on par with the 10 year old CDJ-2000 1st gen. ...on a 10'' screen!
    4. Intuitive it's not. Things like the key-combo needed to switch to horizontal waves can not exist on a device if ''Change your rider'' is ever going to happen. Again so unnecessary when there's a screen menu where this setting should be. I've already been in a meeting where the RX2 was voted before the P 4 to buy just because of this.
    5. Design and layout. First thing, I almost broke the X-fader Contour knob. Someone probably already have. To have anything sticking out on the front on a steep unit like this is pure stupidity. When placed with a wall behind it, someone short like me need to tilt the units back up to see where to connect the cables, and that's again something controller DJ's are used to, but not me who are used to mixers where nothing is on the front, at least not sticking out like that.
    6. The engine software....
    7. And the fact I didn't yet know, that the effects can not be used with external players... Something I really didn't like with the XDJ-R1 and one of the reasons I sold it. One would think that Denon should learn from others mistakes and stick to making their own.
    8. Mentioned before but deserves it's own mention. The 10'' screen. There's 3 times more and useful info on the RX2 7'' screen, which is the closest I can compare to, at least used as a 2 player unit. Why? I need to see what happens when I'm in browser mode and a simple time counter doesn't cut it. Expected more and better and I got less.
    All of the above could easily have been avoided and as I see it, the customer in mind for this unit is controller DJ's who want a stand-alone-unit and to some degree mobile DJ's. For us who use club standard gear as our daily driver, and occasionally need to bring our own gear, this is not the unit to buy. No change of rider for me. My unit will be for sale soon unless Denon at least fixes everything software related and the stutter when in CDJ mode. Otherwise the XDJ-RX2 or a set of XDJ-700's and a DJM-450 will be a much better choice for me. When I buy a pro tool it is because I have use for it now, not in a year or two. The P 4 is a power tool, certainly not the precision tool I need.

      @dj-peterofficial2753 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SoundKata It hasn't changed. The stuff Denon introduces with the P 4 is of no or very little interest to me. My workstation, and even my laptop, is many times faster and more powerful than any Denon hardware, and I have my preparations done before I go to a gig and streaming music will not be a part of how I play as long as I stay active. Sorry to say, the functions I really needed the most, doesn't seem to become available on the P 4, so I sold it and got a used Pioneer setup in excellent condition for half the price, $1000.
      I choose between the RX2 and the XDJ-700/DJM-450, and I got the later. Perfect setup for the intended use. Smaller footprint and lighter than both the RX2 and P 4. The whole setup in a hardcase is only 2 kg more than 1 CDJ-2000NXS2 in hardcase, and as it is modular, I can combine the parts with the different mixers/players that I have available if I need to. When I only need to bring the players, taking off the foot stand, they fit B2B in one hand to carry.
      The first week I got the setup, I used it on 3 different gigs. The P 4 were sitting on a table for + 2 months completely useless. I have now had the XDJ-700s and the DJM-450 for a month and a half, and despite me working on a cruiser for 21 of those days, the setup has been with me on 9 gigs already. That's what I call good value, and everything just works, as expected and is exactly what I need.

      @dj-peterofficial2753 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@isaiahfurrow7414 They look better with the Pioneer look, for sure, ha ha, but the only new thing seems to be the bigger screen and some improvement to the jog wheel. This is now a huge player, so to bring a pair or more to every gig, nah, no way. This is a club installation model, so why they made this hdd ready, I don't know. I guess they did because they could :) . As they do have the exact same OS as the rest of the prime series, and it still doesn't have the CDJ mode I use, they are still not usable for me. To clear what I mean when I say that: I can use any gear out there as long as they read my drives where I have my music, but as I can't perform at my best on gear where I have to adapt, I won't use them. As I am in a position where I can decide what new gear is getting in the clubs where I play, Denon will have no chance as long as I and others can't use them to our fullest satisfaction. It's as easy as that. And that goes everywhere, so that's why there's no Denon gear in any clubs yet, 3 years after the release of the 5000's, despite that they are doing some really good gear now and has models for more Dj's. I've said it before. You can't win people over if you take away any of the basic functionality DJ's have been using for decades. Any other new functions means nothing if I can't continue to play the way I want. That goes for most DJ's. When I say that I'm called a lot of things by the people who really love the new Denons. Instead they should want the Denon to make the options I and others need to make us accept the Denon gear. I won't change my mind and most other DJ's won't either.

    Yeah, speaking of the software, I also "have a dream"... that one day sort observant engineer will finally realize that their waveforms are moving in the wrong direction.

    • @michaelangelo8001

      @@sheateeley1 Are you serious?
      On a record or tape, the audio stream always moves under the needle or play head, from *left to right*...
      But on all current DJ software, it moves *right to left*. It's reversed.
      In the beginning, some dummy at Serato was copying the layout in audio editing software, and got it configured wrong. Since then every subsequent developer has just duplicated his original mistake.
      It's very dislecsic (sp?) and confusing for me and many others. Their visual waveform always moves the opposite way that the record and my hand are moving. It's just ike looking in a mirror... everything is backward.
      Some Virtual DJ users recognized the problem, and started complaining about ten years ago. So the developers finally added an option to correct the direction in VDJ7. It was a half-a$$ed fix that didn't work just right, but a lot of people (myself included) used it anyway.
      Since the release of VDJ8, that option has been deleted. A lot of people have complained, but the company basically just doesn't care what we think.
      Serato Itch also had an option to place the waveforms on the left side of the screen, moving upward. I liked that very well also, as it had the added benefit of placing the track side locations in correspondence with their respective controllers. But there again in spite of many complaints, that option is no longer available in Serato DJ.

    Transition Track Beat Gridding!!!! Denon Engine Prime!!!!! Or when importing Rekordbox DO NOT RE- ANALYZE GRID/BPM INFO ... I'm about Ready to Throw my SC5000's in the Trash right Now because I have a great track with varying BPMs that is Completely Unusable on this hardware (when using sync ... which I do in my streams to make things cleaner and allow me more time to engage with my audience) Because it will throw everything out of sync. Yes I can beat match by ear and could add a note for what the correct BPM is and mix a track in that works... But That requires far more thinking than you should have to do in this day and age.
    Rekordbox beat grid is spot on... dead to rights perfect.. heck I can get close enough using dynamic mode to avoid train wrecks , but if I actually grid the track I can make it absolutely perfect with the tempo drops and all.
    The hardware ( I have SC5000's & x1800 but I'm sure the prime 4 is great as well ) Really does deserve a lot better preparation software for STAND ALONE mode. Not 3rd party laptop software integration.
