I can still comprehend neurology whilst reading through my ostentatious anatomy books, however, these videos help my occipital lobe conjure a better image of understanding, thank you.

    I developed neuropraxia about 7-8 years ago after a night of hard alcohol abuse and passing out in the same position for too long. I woke up and had no function in my wrist and fingers on my left hand as well as any upward movement in my elbow. I figured it would come back fairly quick and I’d move on with my day. That was not the case. Recovery back to full use took 10 weeks. What a terrifying experience it was too. It fascinates me from time to time which led me to this video which helped with understanding. Thank you

      Alcohol caused severness in that injury

    • @eyeameye9565
      @eyeameye9565 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No it didn't. It lead him to be stagnant in one position for too long, causing compression, and loss of blood flow, and long enough, severing his radial, ulnar nerve. Keep your stupid comments to yourself. Especially if you've never experienced anything like this. People drink because of people like you. So you actually caused his injury, not the alcohol.

    nerves are one of the most complicated things. I had my median nerve, that was cut in my wrist, transplanted from my leg ~75 days after the accident. the muscle nor the joint was injured, it was just the nerve that was cut. 4 1/2 years ago, at the time 16yo, I was rushed to the hospital in a complete shock-state, as if I was on some drugs that made me physically numb. it was quite a deep cut and around 2 inches long with skin that was also hanging still. the doctor who cleaned up the wound had told me that the nerve wasn't damaged, but a few weeks later it turned out to be otherwise. I couldn't feel 3 fingers which I used to write with. the length from the cut up until the end of my middle finger is about 25-30 centimeters. I'm used to the numbness now and I can feel when my fingers are warm/cold, and tell the difference between warm/cold water easily.
    nearly half of a decade has passed after this incident that was caused by glass. I still regret how I reacted, because I was upset about something, so I punched a glass door. that's life, though. I punched the middle of the glass and my hand went right through it. the thing that I'm most thankful for is that the glass didn't chop my arm off, which would have obviously been the worst outcome. glass was hanging from the top of the door frame and thankfully, it didn't fall down right after the moment my hand went through it.

    I can relate to what you're explaining and recently found that vitamin B6 has helped me significantly. I have to take 400mg a day.... my symptoms were severe and I had them for years. But I believe the causes for my injury were psychological... you've not mentioned about psychological trauma or stress impacting nerves... I hope you could do a video on it at some point.

    • @alondraacosta-mora6504

    • @stuartmaybe
      @stuartmaybe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't believe that through psychological trauma, you can damage the nerve. It's through some type of physical trauma that the nerve is being physically damaged (car crash, sports, compression). Maybe you should watch the video again?

    • @MuhammadAdamGhamkoley
      @MuhammadAdamGhamkoley 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@stuartmaybe psychological factors have physical impact. Human mind needs interest, focus, certainty, security, creativity and productivity, it is our nature... when opportunities aren't available or conditions aren't favourable the productive energy becomes destructive. Like say water in a lake is harmonious when able to flow smoothly in a forward direction, but when obstructed, the force can build up and erupt out of boundaries. I actually physically felt shockwaves, and sensations and cold spots etc in the brain as the damage was progressing. If one has to endure undesirable or stressful circumstances for long durations of time the damage becomes more permanent and continued weakness is experienced where initial symptoms occurred. One is able to tell if there is a correlation between their symptoms and the stress, despair, oppression, fear or whatever they may be going through. Nerves impact emotions and likewise emotions impact nerves.

I can no longer hear normally I need my hearing devices to hear. I was told I can get my hearing back but thru natural herbs etc I still have hope I can get my hearing back. I’ve lived with being deaf for two years now going on 3. I’m thankful I was born hearing makes me look at life differently!

    I woke up 8 months ago with drop foot on the right side, numb toes on the right foot, lost knee jerk reflex on my left leg, trick knee on my left leg, unable to do leg lifts or push up on left leg.
    I had 111 different blood tests done, X-rays, MRIs, brain scans, Nerve conductivity studies, EKGs...I have seen dozen doctors and specialists. No diagnosis yet...not even close. I assume I had nerve damage caused by my autoimmune system. Apparently my nerves are not growing back, as I feel just as bad today as I felt on the day this started. By the way, I am fine from my waist up.

    Man, I was really looking forward to your rendition of the 6 phases of nerver degeneration and regeneration as the axon decays one node up-> chromatolysis to get the nissl granules out of the way -> axon breaks off -> regenerate: Schwann cells make up tube, axon sprouts to fill the tube and then connection finally repairs the nerve

    i love your videos, I woke up one morning and thought i had a crick in my neck. when it didnt go away and i woke up the next day unable to raise my right arm above my shoulder and i
    my arm was so weak i couldnt raise a gallon of milk up to my counter top i gave it 2 weeks then i couldnt take it anymore, so i got an xray then onto a orthopedic doctor for an mri. well it showed i had a pinched nerve in the c5,c6,c7 area. i ended up getting a neck fusion to relieve the compression. the surgeon said it could take 3-6 months to get my full use of my arm back., it said that the nerve had caused my deltoid muscle to not work correctly and become weak im 5 weeks out from surgery as of today 11-18-19 and ive not really seen any improvement. and all physical therapy wants to concentrate on is that this and that muscle are weak, im growing impatient... do you have any advice or suggestions? any would be greatly appreciated.

    Very nice video!
    (unmyelinated axons are also surrounded by Schwann cells but by ones which don't make myelin sheets :) )

    My girlfriend was in a car accident about five years ago. She suffers pain mostly in her right foot. The car went into a barrier and stopped instantly. I believe it's mostly due to her right L5 nerve root being injured. I am trying to get her MSC treatment, does this have a chance to repair such an injury? I don't think I can get the stem cells applied locally although in fibrin glue I believe they would work better applied directly to the nerve. If you have any ideas of how her pain can be treated I would be very thankful. We have tried nerve blocks, pulsed pulsed radiofrequency and continuous radiofrequency ablation already. Thanks.

    This illustration mainly focuses on nerve injury...
    Can you make another prioritising nerve regeneration please?

    As I slur like Stallone due to a recent neck/facial surgery, I think I'll get feeling back over some months, based off of your vid. Advanced terms but still very educational. Cheers!

    I'm studying for my hand therapy exam and I appreciate this video! In this video you talked about growth after neurotmesis. How does that change after a nerve repair and what kinds of repairs provide more successful outcomes (i.e. Suture repair vs. tubes/conduits). Thanks!

    What causes root nerves to shrink? Not be compressed, but shrink.
