My mom had aneurysm which broke and cause a huge hematoma between her brain and skull. She was barely saved by two doctors which came from their vacation to perform two surgeries on her. They are the only reason she is alive and I am forever thankful to them.
You must be from a well connected or rich family. We normal people don't get that special treatment. Hell we should be lucky if the doctor even runs some tests and doesn't call us crazy
one important difference between epidural and subdural haemorrhage is that, for epidural haemorrhage, patients usually manifest short period of loss of consciousness, and then the patient will wake up for a brief moment before passing out again. This is because epidural haemorrhage is an arterial haemorrhage as the video suggested, the initial haemorrhage was rapid, but shortly after the brain will adjust but then lossing too much blood will bring unconsciousness again.
ARMANDO THANK YOU FOR TAKING TIME TO CREATE THIS VIDEO IN A WAY THAT IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND...I LOST MY BROTHER "MIKEE",33, A MONTH AGO APRIL 16TH IN A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT & TRAMAUTIC BRAIN INJURY, & WAS ALMOST BRAIN DEAD, ON LIFE SUPPORT FOR 4 DAYS. THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING MY MOM & I TO HAVE CLARITY ON WHAT SOME OF THE DOCTORS COMPLEX VERBAGE REALLY MEANT. (& ur Drawings are superb! My brother was an artist too!)
Brilliant video. I survived a Subarachnoid Haemorrhage 8 months ago. Had 2 seizures at onset..loss of feeling below waist, extreme headache, throwing up constantly (even for days after surgery) extreme photophobia (i still have a degree of this now, lights bother me).. I really liked your clear explanation and drawings...made it very clear for me to understand what happened. Thank you
You are an legend man . Tomorrow is my surgery exam and i need to study this topic. Now I can skip this topic after watching your video. Thanks a lot :)
Lucid intervals are ONLY found in epidural or extradural bleeds. Never subdural. Also, while it's correct that epidural bleeds are caused by trauma and skull fractures that injure the middle cerebral artery, subdural bleeds do NOT have the same causes. Subdural bleeds are chronic bleeds that occur in the bridging veins over periods of hours or days, even weeks; usually in elderly and often in alcoholics, presentig with progressively worsening confusion.
My niece recently died of a brain hemorrhage. Her mom and I were with her. She said she was getting a headache just before we were getting in the car for about an hour ride. She took an advil, walked to the car and got in. About 5 minutes down the road, she said the headache had gotten worse. But she leaned back in her seat, closed her eyes and tried to get comfortable. Next time I looked back she was snoring. I thought nothing of it, she was 30 years old and had a headache. When we got to where we were going, we couldn't wake her up. We patted her cheeks, and her hand would brush her face and rub her cheek. The EMTs arrived and her vitals were fine and her eyes reacted they said. They loaded her up and took her to the hospital, which was only about a 3 to 5 minute trip. We followed, still not really alarmed yet, thinking this was some kind of seizure or episode. Once there they did a cat scan and nearly immediately told us she was critical with a brain hemorrhage. They called a neurosurgeon in, but it took about 2 or 3 hours. By that time, they told us surgery was unlikely to be successful. Her brain had been pushed across the mid line, and she'd shortly be declared brain dead. They said it was a bridging vein tear, but found no evidence of trauma. We haven't gotten the autopsy back yet, but we've lived every day of the last month wondering if we missed the signs, other then headache, and if we could have done things differently. We feel so bad having been in the car with her, knowing later she was in distress, and us just thinking she was napping. What 30 year old dies from a headache??? We had plenty of doctors tell us there was nothing we could have done, even as soon as we got in the car. But that feeling will never ever go away for my sister and I. Never.
a lucid interval is a temporary improvement in a patient's condition after a traumatic brain injury, after which the condition deteriorates. A lucid interval is especially indicative of an epidural hematoma.
6:05 triad of meningismus..... nuchal rigidity, photophobia, headache Great explanation brother ... proud of u... very informative.... keep up the great job 😉👍🏻👍🏻
Pray to GOD to heal and wake him if he's unconscious. My sister had a hemorrhage brain stem stroke, December 5, 2022. I've been praying same for my sister 🙏
It is also possible for multiple haemorrhages to occur both outside and within the brain tissue in cases of severe head trauma and it’s also one of the main factors behind the deaths of victims who have suffered one punch attacks as multiple haemorrhages occurring simultaneously will mostly result in critical neurological damage or complete brain death. The brain crashing into the skull as a result of severe head trauma can not only cause brushing but can also result in haemorrhages occurring within the brain tissue near the point of impact with the skull internally.
Both Epidural and Subdural are characterised by a lucid interval. The lucid interval for Subdural will be longer because the haemorrhage is from a venous source (lower pressure).
hey mate love your videos. i was under the impression that epidural haematomas are indicative of a initial LOC followed by a lucid interval and later a rapid decline in consciousness; dilated/sluggish pupil and contralateral hemiparesis
I had a black out in 1997 and then I had 2 blackouts in 2016 and I haven't been the same since and I have 5 Legions and a small brain tumor and I have been under so much stress my brain has become smaller, and I feel off the school bus at the age of 7 and my brain has been through a lot and I can't take anymore stress and thank god I can do what I want and not work anymore! I hate having stress and its being around toxic people in Northern VA and this area stresses me out and I need to be some place else. I really hope I die soon from a brain stroke very soon. My headaches feel like someone pushing on my head. I do remember hitting my head on a lap post when I was trying to get to the bus.
I just want to give you more than one like 🥹😍❤️ You cannot imagine how I’m feeling now after watching your video ❤🎉 It’s the first time and I got all the concepts 🎉🫂 Keep doing it please ❤ so much love ❤️🥰😍
I had subdural haemotoma. About ten days after my fall I had bad headaches and started to see colour blotches on room walls which was supposedly caused by increased bruising pressure on the part of the brain that controls sight.
Another haemorrhage that causes intraventricular haemorrhages (IVH) is a germinal matrix haemorrhage, which if then the bleeding extends into the ventricles becomes an intraventricular haemorrhage. This happening is known collectively as a germinal matrix-intraventricular haemorrhage (GM-IVH).
so if someone was assaulted and approximately a month later started having loss of balance and a brain bleed and seizures with slight numbing in the toe what would you diagnose it as
Really nice presentation 👌 Sometimes an intracranial haemorrhage can be so discrete that we really need to search for the right finding based on the symptoms. The next day the whole thing could triple in size... Thanks for the video :)
6:12 lol Meningismus involves the triad (3-symptom syndrome) of nuchal rigidity (neck stiffness), photophobia (intolerance of bright light) and headache
Thanks for the content. Did you ever remember what the additional sign/symptom is for subarachnoid bleed? My google search did not reveal anything outside of what you mentioned
Very good video. But I though epidural hemorrhaging resulted in brief loss of consciousness, lucid interval, then rapid deterioratation. And that, subdural presented as slowly building up, and progression of ICP taking days to weeks. But it did sound like you said they can both present like that
There’s also ventricular hemorrhage thaat doesn’t have to be secondary. There’s patients with hydrocephalus and pseudo tumor cerebri (like me) who have VP shunts that can cause random bleeding or shift and cause bleeding. Or ones that have a tumor and it compresses the ventricle and bleeding can occur. Not all cases are put in articles or studies or journals etc. I have had 7 LP shunts now a VP Shunt and also Chiari Decompression surgery and Spinal Cord Decompression.
3 weeks ago i had food poisoning and had diarrhea all morning then i had nausea and when i tried throw up nothing was in my stomach to go out so i threw up empty and suddely it felt like my head was filling up and it was spinning. After 15 minutes i woke up laying on the floor of my bathroom. Back of head was hurting like hell and i couldnt move my head due to pain. Appearantly i hit back of my head on the edge of bathtub when i fell. Now 3 weeks later im having this strange headache time to time and my ear ringing sometimes. Is it possible i have some type of hemorrhage? Or it is just post concussion symptoms? If i have hematoma 3 weeks is enough time to reveal some serious symptoms right?
What is the supply of the blood for intracerebral haemorrhage? Is it also the cerebral arteries? If so how does that mean the difference between a subarachnoid and intracerebral haemorrhage is simply the location of the rupture and not the source of blood?
urm. hope this doesn't sound impolite. but it would be better appreciated if you please added corrections to your video by adding a speech bubble or something. i would've lost marks had i not remembered correctly about epidural hematoma causing the lucid interval and not subdural.

Very true. As the video suggests, Lucid interval can be seen in subdural haemorrhage too but relatively less common as compared to Epidural

Did I tell you, you saved me in the physiology exams 3 years back, and now you'll save me in medicine too! 🥺
correction : epidural/extradural hemmorhage causes lucid interval and then coma. Not subdural
that is correct
Isolated form of subdural hematoma causes lucid interval too, excepted the form that mixed with brain alteration.
Legs mo
Yes it's epidural hemorrhage not sub dural
both epidural and subdural may have lucid interval stage.

Subdural bleeding can definitely be acute as well due to trauma, it's not always a chronic process!

Excellent...i wish everyone in medical field had teachers like you... 👍👍
Just to clarify: EXTRADURAL/EPIDURAL causes LUCID INTERVAL. NOT Subdural
subdural can have lucid interval as well
a lucid interval is a temporary improvement in a patient's condition after a traumatic brain injury, after which the condition deteriorates. A lucid interval is especially indicative of an epidural hematoma.
6:05 triad of meningismus..... nuchal rigidity, photophobia, headache
Great explanation brother ... proud of u... very informative.... keep up the great job 😉👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Armando. Informative yet again. You make it sound so simple
Thanks Armando. I always love the clarity of your videos. You make it simple yet informative. More grace!
Please mention treatment and investigations too
Great video
this is awonderful vedio ,the first time i see like that excellent illustration by this simple method
I thought epidural classically caused the "lucid interval"
i agree
yup, it is epidural that has the lucid interval
since i see the mistake, i stop the video and see the comments. and im not the only one who notice...
Both Epidural and Subdural hemorrhages can cause lucid interval guys :)
epidural haemorrage usually cuases lucid interval, subdural haemorrhae howere has a high chance or rebleeds

Did you forget about amyloid angyopathy? on intracerebral hemorrhage causes (lobar hemorrhage)
I had subdural haemotoma. About ten days after my fall I had bad headaches and started to see colour blotches on room walls which was supposedly caused by increased bruising pressure on the part of the brain that controls sight.
A lucid interval is especially indicative of an epidural hematoma. Subdural hematomas are classically crescent-shaped.
Excellent tutorial thankyou, well done

Excellent illustration done !!!!
You style is so great men 🙏
Do they feel anything on the spot?? I mean besides the symptoms, is it possible to feel the artery tearing?
Very informative. Excellent explanation 👌 👏 Thanks brother
Small correction epidural hemorrhage can cause aphasia not aphagia... Nice video
Lucid interval occurs for epidural hem not subdural.
so if someone was assaulted and approximately a month later started having loss of balance and a brain bleed and seizures with slight numbing in the toe what would you diagnose it as
