  • In this special episode for the feast of Epiphany, the brothers present the argument for September 11, 3 B.C. being the birth date of Jesus and pinpoint just what it was that the Magi saw in the sky that led them to Bethlehem shortly thereafter. Leaning upon the research of meteorologist Ernest Martin, Dr Michael Heiser, and Fr Stephen DeYoung, the brothers take us on a dense, fascinating journey through the Gospels, the book of Revelation, Old Testament astrology, and a letter of Ignatius of Antioch to tackle that most debated of mysteries: WHAT DID THE MAGI SEE IN THE SKY??

    As a Christian astrologer it is very rewarding to hear all this, but it would be even better if after 30 years of having to hide from my church and other Christians that I am also an astrologer, I no longer had to :(

      My mother was an astrologer and I grew up hearing all about it and hearing her discuss the charts she was making for friends. She learned it from her best friend's father in the late 1920's. I am a Catholic convert and never tell my Catholic friends that I know all about astrology. I too feel that it's unfortunate I can't let them in on this subject that has been a study in the East for a very long time.

      Why is astrology so prevalent in the occult ? I’m an occultist / new ager and in my experience, astrology is a demonic deception that leads people into new age occultic worldviews

    Dear Catholic Brothers
    Thank you for another fantastic episode.
    I still have a question though: Isn't this conclusive that Christ was born on September 11th, 3 BC and not on December 25th?

      Thanks for enjoying the content! Apart from Grad school theses, at present, no nothing ‘popular’ in terms of publishing. Definitely have plans for some books in the works, but probably a good year or two away from anything coming to fruition.
      I (Steven) was the project coordinator for the Ancient Faith Study Bible (CSB), but that’s all the “popular” publishing work I have done heretofore.

    What did the Magi hear too? Seems to me that Magi through their life experience must have been able to discern a lot from what any voice sounded like to them as well. Like when hearing a babe crying in his manger.

    the 3x conjunction you were talking about between Jupiter and Regulus….. but you show a graphic to accompany that which was of regulus, the sun and venus???! which astrologially speaking has a different meaning…. so…..???

    The absence of an eclipse would make the strongly held Molnar thesis of using ancient astrology to propose 17 April, 6 B.C. problematic, when Josephius is brought in as another data point, paring an eclipse and passover. Unless, Herod's motivation for killing all children 2 years and younger makes the 5 B.C. death of Herod work, while allowing the Molnar thesis of a King of Judea horoscope in April of 6 B.C.

    "Modern man does not look up." Nope, he constantly looks down at his phone these days, and thinks himself smarter than the ancients. Kinda interesting that the devil was doing the same thing when he missed the hidden mysteries. Related in history: this style of exegesis may very well explain why astronomy was part of the medieval quadrivium.

    If birth of Jesus is told in sun/moon/stars then all myths of bible/greek/roman/babylon are also. Sun rising in spring equinox is now Pisces/fish/ started at about birth of Jesus and when jesus asked how long will he be with us he say until u find the water bearer and follow him to his house/sun rising is the house. It’s all solar/moon/star myths.

    You gossip about Dr. Taylor and then turn off comments. Why??? You posted the video.

    • @TheCatholicBrothers
      @TheCatholicBrothers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Because:
      A) we didn’t gossip, we responded to some calumny that he posted about pope Francis’ statement
      And
      (B) because the commentary in the comments section had run its course and we responded to every possible objection that anyone had to the video and engaged respectfully with any thoughtful critiques, as few as those were, and received warmly any earnest support. Ultimately, it became too time consuming for me to delete vulgarities flooding in from Taylor Marshall’s fans- a level of vulgarity that would make the unchurched blush. This is a Catholic channel, and I won’t allow our comments section to become a stumbling block for anyone who might be peering in and earnestly considering Catholicism.

      They defer to Bishop "Christ is just the preferred path" Barron multiple times in that video, yet claim to be traditional Catholics. All you need to know really. In my opinion, these guys are gatekeepers.

    • @TheCatholicBrothers
      @TheCatholicBrothers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@miclam00 Is it possible to agree with a man on some things and disagree on others, or is that level of nuance too much for the Marshallites? Why is intellectual generosity towards a fellow Catholic (who might have some personal ideas that I would disagree with) such a violation in your book? If you can’t engage respectfully and thoughtfully with an (undeniably) accomplished Catholic evangelist, bishop, and theologian like Bishop Barron, then I would encourage you to revisit your list of Cardinal virtues and *actually* be a traditional Catholic, in all things. Traditional Catholics should be the wisest, most joyful, and most confident ones in the room, not the angriest and accusatory and paranoid. If you prefer to be in a perpetual state of fist-clenching, then by all means, have at it. We simply choose a different way of expressing our loyalty to orthodoxy.

      @@miclam00 furthermore (not that I have some passionate goal of vindicating Barron or something- his comments and methods and views are his own and he can speak for himself), but it is worth noting that he and WOF have clarified his position at length. Here is the link for you to peruse.

      @@TheCatholicBrothers That "clarification" is about as worthy as a newpaper retraction of a front page article printed a week later on page 37. How about his interview with Ben Shapiro where he espoused rank heresy to hundreds of thousands (probably over a million if you account for people who just watched clips or read transcripts) of viewers? He says that a Jew or an atheist can attain salvation by simply following their conscience. What he neglects to mention is that only applies to those with invincible ignorance, which Ben Shapiro and anyone watching that video do not have. Do you think that Bishop Barron doesn't know about that very important distinction?

    Interesting show, but I would like to reprimand you for turning comments OFF on your Taylor Marshall show. First, it is not very honest to criticize somebody and then remove an opportunity for rebuttal. Second, I realized why he has 90k followers and you guys only 3k: he understands there is a problem in church and seeks to find an answer, but you guys live in lala land and pretend there is no problem, thus losing in relevance.

    • @TheCatholicBrothers

      Thanks tubaceous. We turned comments off because of the uncatholic vulgarities being spouted by his followers, which became too time consuming to delete from the comments box.
      Glad to have less followers, in this instance, and content with the content we are putting out here in “la la land.”

      @@tubaceous but Christ did not do that all day, everyday. That was not his only message. Under attack? Only if you are a rabid follower of the internet news and commenters. I go to Mass every day and I don't see anybody attacking anybody. I go in, I'm pardoned, I hear the Word of God, I receive the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ, I try to live a more holy life and spread it around. It is people like Taylor Marshall who are fomenting the perception of attack and unrest. Is everything perfect in the church? No. Has it ever been? No. Once you realize that Taylor Marshall's, and so many others' livelihood depends on clicks, subscriptions, and likes, you'll start to get the picture.
