    Ford dealerships should require all of their technicians to watch your videos. Hats off to you Brian! You definitely stand out from the crowd. I definitely enjoy all the videos and information you provide. Just last night I watched your video on motorcraft coolants. My '12 Taurus needs to have the coolant changed and I couldn't understand why I couldn't find the Motorcraft orange coolant anyway except ebay which had crazy prices. I did find a technical bulletin from Ford explaining why they discontinued the orange coolant and to switch over to the yellow coolant. My initial thoughts were is it compatible with the orange coolant? Then it dawned on me to see if you made a video about the coolants. Low and behold I found your video explaining all of Ford coolants. After watching, it eased my mind and was nothing for me to worry about. I then watched your video on how you flush out a Ford's cooling system. I'm retired now and have 50+ yrs of automotive... mainly GM until I wised up and switched over to Ford...haha and have 25 yrs working on commercial aircraft. I still enjoy working on my cars for the limited knowledge I have on today's modern vehicles to a certain point. There's no need for me to invest in all the equipment and tools needed today to work on my vehicles so when I do need repairs done to the point that is way beyond my knowledge there is a Ford dealership I use that have some excellent technicians and have always been more than pleased with the work they preform. I watched your video on your new 2021 F150 and thought to myself the systems on today's vehicles are just about as complicated as systems on commercial aircraft. It's mind blowing for sure. If I lived anywhere close to you you'd without a doubt would be my go to technician. Keep the great videos coming.

I have a 2004 F150 with the 5.4, it looks like I should sale or trade it ASAP before I have any major problems. I bought the truck about 4 years ago and it had 247,000 miles on it, it now has 251, 000 miles. The truck was neglected when bought it so I have replaced all the front end from ball joints on, brakes and so forth. I have replaced Starter, alternator, and many other parts with the help from your videos. Thanks for making theses videos so people like me can do our own work and save a lot of money. P.S: from watching your video on the number seven rocker that sounds like my next task because I have had a tapping noise ever since I bought the truck.

    • @2491kridge
      @2491kridge 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately that is a fact my friend. I’ve been at the same shop for over 10 years now and you would be amazed at how many other shops in the area just launch parts at a car and then give up and send it to our shop. And I’m by no means saying I’m a master diagnostic expert however I do know how to use logic and reason while searching for a problem and I’m certainly not just going to wing parts at a car. Our shop has quite a few used car lots that come to us as well because they buy cars from auction and then them fixed before selling them and a lot of other shops in the area see a used car lot and they won’t even bother diagnosing the car and they’ll just throw parts at their cars and it ends up costing the car lots tons of wasted money so they’ve now realized how much money they can save on wasted parts by bringing it to us and having it fixed right the first time lol.

      I got a 06 5.4 3v too. Intermittent ruff idle 156k miles. No codes read on obd. This may be my issue. I’m getting that scanner. And ordering oem timing kit and melling pump. Great videos

    When u do the timing jobs, do u do it non stop, or do u tear apart one day and put together the next? U do so many, u must have a total system. I love the channel and never miss a vid. Thank u for your hard work!!!

      Timing sets on the 5.4, 3.5 turbo, and 3.5 naturally aspirated engines can all be done in a day usually 7-8 hours.

    Proof that diagnostic skills matter. Had a suburban come in that another shop tried to repair for lean code on both banks and both sensor 1 o2 sensors. Smoked it and both runners of intake from front to back were leaking the worst I have ever seen .

    Watched because my 2000 F-150 with the two valve 5.4 Triton was showing a lean condition and adding 20-25% fuel trim. The intake was warped, confirmed with the propane test, so I replaced it and also replaced the coils and plugs, EGR, PCV valve and hose, injector o-rings and vacuum lines and cleaned the mass airflow sensor while it was apart. It still gave lean codes so I smoke tested it and it passed. Took it to an independent shop that would actually listen to me and what I had done. I worked on general aviation aircraft at one time and built two street rods so the skills were there. We all agreed that it ~looked~ like a vacuum leak on the diagnostics but I told the shop owner that I really believed it was a sensor somewhere; I just didn't have the experience or resources to verify that. They checked the O2 sensors first and then found that the MAF sensor was sending bad data. Their diagnostics weren't cheap but the problem was fixed. There is no telling what a dealership might have "diagnosed" and how much it would have cost.
    I have no desire to own a later style Ford engine. The F-150 is just used for hauling things, 2000-3000 miles/year that won't fit in a car or SUV so it should last me another 10-20 years.

    I think people need to respect the craft of true mechanics vs part swappers who can only read codes. Both are needed but a true mechanic can actually uncover issues like we see in this video that take true understanding of how vehicles work to uncover.
