My first Corvette was a1988 Z51 that I purchased in 2002. In 2004 I purchased a 1991 ZR-1. I sold that in 2017 and bought a 2011 Cadillac CTS-V. Well I sold that last week and bought a 2016 Z06 3LZ convertible. My God, what an awesome car, and I didn't have to pay 100k over MSRP. I let the original owner take the depreciation. It is Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic with 39,225 miles on it. I love it! C8 is great, but I'm very happy with a C7 Z06! Thanks for the video!
Yikes! I had no idea a base C8 already weighed so heavy! I'm sure the car will have more power in future iterations to keep the weigh going, but damn...really makes me realize how cars really are getting heavier by the year.
They are different cars. The C8 is more sophisticated. Of course the C7 Z06 will catch the C8 Stingray after 60 mph. it has 155hp more. But 0-60 launch the C8 is slightly better which is incredible considering the 155hp difference. It also corners better! A more fair comparison would be C7 Z06 vs C8 Z06 for acceleration performance.
John eludes! Fun review of a comparison many of us were very interested in...especially since the c8 z51 fe4 compares in price to the discounted brand new c7 z06 with chevys special generation ending pricing. Ive been driving manuals for over 4 decades and still chose the new c8 generation as well. Thanks for a nice comparison video for us to enjoy.
I want a mid engine C7 Z06. The things I like about C8 is consistent 0-60 @2.8 seconds and the dual clutch shifts. Put those in my C7 Z06, and it’s a perfect car. If they do that 8spd dual clutch with the ZL1 Camero I am totally getting one.
I still prefer the c7,but the c8 is growing on me.il like chrome wheels.i don't care if they are like my Cadillac, 2 PC w/ lightweight plastic chrome.also a sports car should have the option of a manual 7 or 8 speed.i buy premium owned ,so in 2-3 yrs I'll look for a wide body grand sport or z06.and fit my own wheels & heritage stripes.they will be in the low 7 min range on the nurrburgh ring w/ a zora.legend is born & it's only going to improve.
On the C8 most of the active aero is built right into the body and the wind actually blows through the engine compartment to cool and keep the car planted on the ground!
I love that my c7 is super low and looks great. I thought the new c8 will be the same in height but it’s not, it’s actually higher then mines is, I don’t know why. I would of like to see the c8 hit the ground of give us the option to make it lower, I ordered the magnet ride and I’m hoping I can have it lowered that way , at least that’s what they said?
JOHN G the C8’s standard ride height is seriously my biggest gripe with the car. It looks wayyyy to high off the ground 🤢 you would think with the more exotic look, it would have a much lowered stance, but no. Makes me consider NOT going with the front end lift. They say both the C7 and C8 have the same ride hight from factory, and people really didn’t have clearance issues with the C7
of course not - I don’t use it for the roads or street use I use mines for just daily to weekends on smooth roads and Hiway’s only. I did get the front lift on the c8, but again wanted it to be a little bit lower in height. And at least a super car stance to go under any toll rack , lol , look for yourself at the c8 and c7 and u will see just how hi it actually is u will be shocked when u see it
I agree. I actually lowered my c7Z half and inch because I thought it looked too high in stock form. Now it’s properly on the floor like a racecar. Looks menacing :)
Cancelled my order for the C8 Stingray to wait for the C8 Z. The C8 Stingray with Z51 package is slightly faster around the ring then the C7 GS, it doesn’t come close to the C7Z. I look forward to the C8Z it will be my 4th Vette and will be parked next to my C7Z.
Have a C7 Z06 Z07 package 7 speed and love the car. The C8 has many nice attributes but for me - I am not a fan of the looks or exhaust note not to mention no stick. The C8 Z06 will be interesting.
Mag ride is great and all but if the C5, C6, and C7 mag rides are any indication, be ready to swap those out at about 50K miles... they have a finite lifespan.
Why compare the C7 Z06 to the C8 Stingray when you can compare the C7 Stingray to the C8 Stingray? That's as fair a comparison as one can ask for. I say that since I often get virtually yelled at for comparing my C7 ZR1 (3ZR and ZTK options) to the C8 Stingray. And I understand their point. However, I do it so as to bring some people back down to Earth. Therefore I use my ZR1 as an example since there are quite a few who seen to believe the C8 is going to be some kind of magic carpet that nothing will be able to compete with. As though being mid-engine imbues it with some form of supernatural power. However, that's simply not true. It's not a magic carpet! It has a a mere 495 HP. That's a long way from the 772 HP my car has. And it's bone stock except for the optional factory installed GM performance intake which they claim adds 17 HP. I call that 'guy logic' but I'll take it since it's in my favor. ;)
Why? Because many consider the previous generation Z06 vs the new generation Z51 each generation leap. Historically they have had fairly similar performance with each other and for the money, they are in these same ballpark -or the Z06 is even less. I fall into that bucket, I'm cheap, I don't like pissing away 60-70K in depreciation in 3-5 years like you do buying a current-generation Z06 or ZR1 so I always pay attention to this comparison.
you probably don't know the answer to this question but every time I think about it I get so frustrated. My 2016 Stingray convertible did have mag right and there was not a z51! What gives wood Chevy not selling that ride suspension by itself? What's the big deal here?
It all comes down to numbers for the last Corvette. Most people had mag ride with z51 so they decided to make it a requirement as most only use the most potential out of it at the track. I will say the reviews on the stock suspension are really good!
@@FullThrottleDrive t was hoping you'd say that...about the ride you'd get with the non-Z51 suspension. I wish I could drive each set-up and feel the difference myself. You see, this will be my 15th and last Corvette and I want to get it totally right this time. Thanks again
Salvatore Cerniglia no problem! Good luck on your car. Dealers will get their cars in the next 4/6 months. So if you can wait you could test drive a couple different set ups!
Daniel Hong I, for one, will be going with LT2 + performance exhaust. Not going to track the car. Live in the northeast.... gonna be my daily and want the all season tires.
@@O_Gio91 Great to know! because I live in NJ and not going to track the car I am seriously considering LT2 + Performance exhaust option. I really don't want to spend more money on an extra set of wheels and tire.
Daniel Hong that’s a tough one! The LT 2 is certainly the sweet spot for features, so that probably the best route, especially if you would never track it. I hate you have to pay 5k for Z51 before the $1850 mag ride option is available. I do always tell everyone to go test drive a C7 with mag ride and try it out. Absolutely incredible! The C8 is even improved upon that.
I love my C7 Z06 with a standard transmission....not a fan of the looks or the loss of a stick in the C8. The C8 no longer looks like a Vette (it looks like an Acura and/or many European styling cues) . I wish GM had integrated more of the Vette pedigree with the C8...the Z06 will be interesting!
C8 is an unknown commodity and had the looks of being designed at the same time as the C7 was.. it's already dated and not one is in customer's hands. As for Z06 vs a C8? Lol.. anything other than the perfect launch on a C8 and itll never get a whiff of the Z06. The Z06 will leave a C8 in the dist from even 5mph up. Just wait and watch lmao.
pigatt1 agreed, it’s very odd they way they did it. They unveiled the car so long ago (July) and originally the plan was to have first deliveries be Dec 2019. So they allowed it to win COTY. But the GM stoke pushed production, so it has been much longer than anticipated.
The C7 was the future for Corvette when it was first interduced when the economy wasn't ready for that leave of R&D but when they blocked the mid engine from being Introduced back then the engineers got to make the existing C6 into a super car Stingray C7. Now the C8 Stingray is Corvettes future. No looking back now the C8 is out front and moving ahead!

Old school here, love my manual C7 Z06
The regular c8 doesn’t compare with the c7 zo6.
The c8 zo6 when it comes out will be over zr1 price..
Bang for the back the c7 is great right now.
no it won't be. they don't price like that & they never will
@@shiftlight314 The market tells a different story

I have a C7 Z06....I wont downgrade to the C8 Singray. I'm waiting for C8 Z06 to come out, then I'll start to pay attention.
Agreed. The C8 cannot compare to the almighty C7 Z06.
The C8 Stingray is better than Z06 by every metric
Yikes! I had no idea a base C8 already weighed so heavy! I'm sure the car will have more power in future iterations to keep the weigh going, but damn...really makes me realize how cars really are getting heavier by the year.
All I know is that I want one.
c7 all the way I i don't like the new look of the c8.
The newer car is always the clear winner. It’s always a much funnier experience to get the newest technology and it always does the job.
that statement is so flawed on so many levels

Put some slicks on the zo6 now let’s see 😭😭
If you do some research you will find that brake pedal feel does change as you change modes in the C8. Thanks.

IMO that was a wise move. The C8 will be more mature by then and you'll get what will no doubt be a superior performing vehicle.
What job do you have to afford those. I'm going for cyber security but I also like to hear what others r doing

I was at COTA, and was trying not to run over a C8, with my C7 ZO6. Maybe I am a better driver.
I can fit 2 mounted OEM sizes tires in my C7Z rear hatch, how many fit in C8 trunks/frunks?
C7 is better car overall......C8 is just a one-trick pony for drag racing and 0-60 times
Personally, although I like what GM did to the C8, I think it is under-powered. For that reason I am in the order queue for a C8 Z06.
Good video I love my 2020 Corvette stingray spider with 3LT Z-51 package 🔥 content coming to our channel with this car build
Easy, if you want stick - C7 If you want auto - C8

Will the C8 have rev matching ?
Don Ezzo rev matching is only for manuals. So with the C8 only being automatic it won’t have it.
2020 c8 corvette is the better fast
Thank you for doing an in depth review...better than watching Schmee jizz all over the car because it's new, hope he likes his over priced supra
Still don’t understand how a car not available for purchase can be COTY. Great car though.
They started building them a couple weeks ago & are at dealers now.

stock z06 10.6 What?

Sweet now I can afford a base C7 or C6 Z lol
C7 manuals will run you a little more than an auto, but still a great deal
Samy Maark manual won’t run you more they will run you less
You ok?
C7 Z06 is my choice, but C8 Z06 might be a different story.
I stick with the C7 Z... for price bump the only get is the new tech and saying i have a mid-engine...waiting on the C8 Z.
C8, hands down!
why doo they keep it up sayyen its a mid engine?? its a rear engine!!!LOL
The C7 looks better, but if you want a somewhat affordable supercar, get the C8.

I think so too and the interior is a real disappointment
The C7 ZO6 is a real Corvette and the c8 looks like a cheap McLaren 😂😂😂😂😂😂
