The Triang R.152 is actually an exact scale model (body wise) of the LMS 1938 Armstrong Whitworth 350 HP "Jackshaft" 0-6-0 diesel electric locomotive, which had inside frames. Unfortunately, due to the use of the R.52 chassis, they couldn't correctly model the jackshaft drive or wheel spacing. With a top speed of 30 MPH it was intended to replace the duties of steam tank locomotives on branch lines and in marshalling yards.
It was never intended to be the English Electric outside framed 350 HP diesel shunter so was never a scale model of it.
There are still real life ex-LMS / BR "Jackshaft" locomotives still in service on Italy's railways. Plenty of pictures of "Jackshafts" in service with the LMS and later BR in black & later green liveries exist online. The class was withdrawn from BR in the early 1960's and sold of abroad to Italy, Germany (1) and Egypt (1).

Sounds like a Diesel
Lovely to watch that Triang gronk run so smoothly Mark. I love your breakdown crane and the Palethorpes sausage 8 wheeler. I would love to get an 08 shunter in BR blue with wasp stripes and as soon as train fairs are open again I shall try to get one. You stay safe.

I need to get myself a nice 08, had a Lima one but it ran like an absolute dog despite servicing it just would not run smoothly at low speeds. Moved it on to someone else with warning it needs more than I can give it!
Probably had a problem with the cogs, sometimes pieces of dirt can build up and stop the slow running all together, while still performing at high speeds. If you ever get a Lima like that again you have 2 options, you could give it a full strip down and inspection, or you could send it on to me and I'll service it for you free of charge, I can do Lima's in about 15 mins. cheers buddy.
