    thanks that's really interesting, I d always wondered why they alarms were so darn quiet, particularly in the noise of the waves and wind, when sleeping through that I really needed a louder alarm and always used the phone with an anchor dragging app, but also need a louder alarm for the other alerts. good work, thanks, Its really easy to install that backbone, I like the system and id be confident to install the whole system with ray marine, they're pretty foolproof , I think the axiom is a terrific thing, reliable too and was good in Australian conditions , tough, heat and cold and wet and dry, a choice of alarm tones would be another good idea ray marine.

    If its an anchor alarm you want, just use Anchor watch on your phone, actually 2 phones to ensure you don’t experience an issue with 1 phone and no alarm, you can set all types of parameters. Using any electronics alarms means the system must run consuming a lot of power to run all this electronics all night long. All need is anchor alarm when at anchor to sleep peacefully.

    Engine service - you should also change the rubber impeller in the water pump.

    That bridge with a yellow connection is special for old Sea Talk things, not Power. For example RM ”old” remote Control for autopilot (still using old Sea Talk) or older instrument. Good buzzer. I want one too 🙂. And you woke me up from been stuck with GoPro.

    I have never understood why the Alarms on a Raymarine, which is what I use, seem so low priority. For any offshore sailor, these are critical. So simple to add better alarms at every plotter, etc. Simply put in a better speaker. Also have some options to adjusts tones, or settings.

    Buzzer is 200€ 😳
    I use a little blue tooth speaker. My Axiom has BT. It cost me €10

    Or, if you're a Garmin customer, you can just use a 50c piezo electric buzzer

    We are almost full-time liveaboards that very rarely use marinas so a life at anchor. We never set an anchor alarm. Just decent anchor and chain. It's not a show off thing, we just hafe never seen the need. We don't drag. We power set the anchor using full engine power. If 86hp sets it, it won't move

    • @sailingmadness
      @sailingmadness  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I too trust my anchor and my ability to set it right, but for me it’s all about that extra security and price of mind. It’s very naive to say your anchor won’t drag, because one day it will! Trust me, it has happened to me and when that day comes you could regret not setting an anchor alarm.

    • @timevans8223
      @timevans8223 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @sailingmadness maybe, but with thousands of nights at anchor in the last 10 years as full time liveaboard, and having excellent ground tackle, that risk it tiny. I sleep well

    When you said buzzer I was expecting a buzzer not a beeper, thought my CO2 alarms were going off, the identical tone, higher than my smoke alarms. Must remember 'Test it Tuesday' next week, forgot last week.

      @sailingmadness  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Tony. Yes thinking about it, it’s the same tone as the one in my house too. 🤣

    Brilliant. Thank you. You explain that the alarm is wired to indicate a dragging anchor. But can the device be fitted to cover several alarm conditions simultaneously leaving the crew to investigated what alarm condition has been activated?

    • @sailingmadness
      @sailingmadness  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes you can set it for all alarms not just anchor.

  • @MOTOUK1

    Great alarm Dave but does it just pick up anchor drag or does it sound at every alarm, like shallow water, AIS etc or can you set it to be just anchor ?

    • @sailingmadness
      @sailingmadness  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I purchased it a few years ago on eBay. Unfortunately I can’t see the make/model without dismantling the system. If you are building one yourself just make sure it’s a diesel transfer pump. The filter is a Racor 900 from ASAP Supplies. Hope that helps? 👍

    • @peteh8077

      Also known as a lift pump. Make sure to spec the pump for your voltage. Advertised flow on pump might be 14.4v or 12v. Big difference. Also with pre or post filters will affect delivered flow. Get a big enough pump and a gauge to verify

    What Micron Racor Filter are you using? when Polishing i always go with the lowest 2Mic, with the muck in the bottom of the bowl i expected to see some discoloration on the Filter?

    • @sailingmadness
      @sailingmadness  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It’s a 10 micron filter. I do this every 6 months so knew it wouldn’t be too bad. The first time I did it the filter was black.

    Has your engine got anodes? If so how often should they be changed.

    • @sailingmadness
      @sailingmadness  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Not on the engine, but one on the hull and one on the sterndrive. I change them every year.

    Cool upgrades, although 170 quid for a buzzer is quite steep 😂

    • @sailingmadness
      @sailingmadness  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yep, a similar thing for a caravan would probably be £30, but that’s marine equipment prices for you. That said £170 for piece of mind and boat safety is worth paying in my book. 👍

    • @jackgoresailing
      @jackgoresailing 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@sailingmadnessI suppose so! Better 170 quid now rather than the pain of picking bits of your boat off the rocks...

    That is all very well but what happens when poor Robin is asleep below, whilst you are on watch and that bloody thing goes off every time you acquire a new AIS target or radar target???!!!

    • @sailingmadness
      @sailingmadness  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Fair comment, although you do have the option to turn AIS and radar alarms off, so depending on weather/visibility conditions on longer passages when you’re doing split watches crew can rest without being disturbed.
