Thank You for this video! Was fortunate to see two Ed Thigpen clinics. Did a private lesson with brush master Jeff Hamilton. Was AMAZING!

Great ideas man!I did a Country gig at a coffee house on Saturday with brushes and small kick, snare and hat only.I used a bunch of #3 to play train beats and shuffles but at times all of these ideas would work, even when playing things other than Jazz.I'm finding that there are a lot of places to play now if you can do quiet duo or trio stuff and being able to play with brushes in styles other than Jazz can get you a lot of work.Maybe that's the next video?I think that it's really important to hand down these ideas because brush stuff is not written down as much as other drumming things, so it's really important to have stuff like this, thanks for doing it!

That a nice set of movements to vary the brush sound, really necessary in a small space setting.

Very cool... I keep trying to find a way into brushes but get stuck just doing the same patterns over and over so these will definitely help.

My favorite has always been Bossa brush strokes. RH = 8 o’clock to 2 o’clock ish in a straight line eighth note, LH = flipped over brush cross stick for clave patterns.
Hurts my brush brain coordination in a lovely way. :)

These techniques are really great! I was wondering about a common brush technique in jazz (maybe for a future brush work video) , how do you do the left handed flurry like the drummer on this 1968 video of Ella Fitzgerald I recently saw here on YT: "th-cam.com/video/-OpTUxaqkCE/w-d-xo.html" ?... Not to diminish Ella's vocal brilliants here!!

Thanks for this bro. I’d like to get some brushes now it’s been a minute since I’ve had any. Blessings in the name of the savior Jesus Christ!

What are these brushes you speak of? Don't you mean baseball bats?

Hi - great stuff mate. I thought I had a handle on brushes (pun not intended). However these moves (hacks as you call them) give the facility to vary oh so basic patterns.
    Cheers
