Stuck at home this week due to coronavirus scare. I “liked” a couple of your videos, and now TH-cam has me on a steady diet of your vids. Honestly, each one is more delicious than the last. You are so awesome. Thank you for sharing.
@@rickdior Thank you so much for leaving a comment. I found you’re playing on your teaching method post to be astoundingly beautiful I’m just now getting into drumming… Over the past couple of years. I’m basically guitar player… But there’s something about time. Pushing and pulling it… And I know that my body has debility to chop up Time in a way that I can’t even quite comprehend with my mind. Of course, I’m an old-school classic rock guy… But I’m also mad for jazz drumming. And the beguiling sound of the brushes. And your work is exemplary and super clean and super tight.
Nice Brush technique. I’m looking for a snare drum technique video of Joe Morello that I saw a couple years ago of him playing singles doubles and paradiddles without stopping. Evidently it’s been taken down. It’s short sweet and to the point and quite impressive. Can someone please put it back on TH-cam?
The matched grip does not work well for this technique with the less dominant (weaker) hand. It is much easier with the traditional grip. With the matched grip, you can try sweeping your wrist side to side and getting as much height as possible with the brush. This is what is difficult with the matched grip.
Both. They will usually be on but if there is a bass solo happening I will turn them off so the bass does not activate the snares. I will also turn them off sometimes when I am soloing.
My favorite drum teacher. These videos are solid gold. Rick, thank you for all you do!

Superb!
The best brush vid ever!
How would you approach the staccato sweep with matched grip?
The matched grip does not work well for this technique with the less dominant (weaker) hand. It is much easier with the traditional grip. With the matched grip, you can try sweeping your wrist side to side and getting as much height as possible with the brush. This is what is difficult with the matched grip.
Thanks for this!
Шикарно !!!
Oh, man! ❤❤❤
Do you keep the snares on or off for brushwork?
Both. They will usually be on but if there is a bass solo happening I will turn them off so the bass does not activate the snares. I will also turn them off sometimes when I am soloing.
Great!!!
!ONGOING THE RHYTHM FLOW!!!
