    Today we are going to be replacing some rotten floor joists because the living room floor has dropped well over an inch. We show you how to replace floor joists and how to remove skirting boards with minimal damage. All this done with the biggest migraine I have ever had.

    First thing you do with a dodgy floor is to crawl the space under the floor - examine joist seats and trimming round the hearth from below the FFL. Sections of floor boards can be cut out & reused if done carefully.
    You've positioned a noggin thats now blocking the air brick.
    Dont leave any wood scraps or off-cuts on the sub-area soil: they'll rot & create fungus.

    Can't believe you did all that in one day. Round here that would be a week's work for for a squad!! Take some time off - self employed burn out! Have a good Christmas.

    plastic dpc around the joist will speed up the rotting process .it should be reomoved and pointed up with nhl 3,5 so it can breath ,breathability is key .air vents air flow .

    Loved the videos, you make it look easy which it isn't. Do all joists in old homes sit on a brick ledge like that one or do the go into the brickwork. I've always wondered how the hell would you replace a joist if it inserted into holes in the brick

    • @AbellTo
      @AbellTo ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Often the brick cut outs are quite deep so when the old one is cut out you can cut a new one so it slides in beyond what’s needed and then slid back into the opposite brick slot. Hope that makes sense

    Do you do this kind of thing with a first floor? Joist sistering versus replacing the whole thing?

    Same problem at mine but somebody had fixed them by nailing 1x2 onto the sides of them which didn't last long either.

    Good work. Good video.
    If ya had a massive migraine. You will definitely not be working still and filming. More like in the van trying anything to get rid of the pain.
    Great learning video aswell.

    Great job how did you fix noggins in back to back across the joist? Screwed in but if parallel that would not work. Get some rest the kind of jobs you guys do your immune system gets knocked for six as come in and out of cold and heat. I would send you some Indian flying tiger balm great for aches and pains and for sore joints and muscles and gives you a great night rest. At some point you and Steve are gonna be off the tools as the younger lads take over with you and Steve managing them.
