Magic Mountain is my home park. And I totally agree with you! The lines get exceptionally long on random rides, made worse by the sometimes unbearable heat. The park opened in 1971 and it definitely showing its age in places. Left over artifacts of long defunct attractions as well as general degradation of que areas. Ninja especially has a lot of wood rot and missing elements that have never been replaced or repaired over the years. The poor Sky Tower has been stuck in limbo due to the elevator needing repairs/replacement. That being said, I love the place.

In regards to La Ronde, any park that has a B&M hyper automatically cannot be the worse in the chain, when there are several others without anything close to that scale (SFDK, Great Escape, etc).

I saw your review it was pretty good (pretty much not as biased as Coasters Studios's which i thought was atrocious) Anyways, great video ! And also, the fireworks from La Ronde are part of the most prestigious fireworks compettition in the world. They're like the Olympics but for fireworks where they choose the best pyrotechnic companies from a few countries and then they all compete against eachother for the Jupiter prize. So these are about the best firework shows you can see out there.

I'm very glad that you ranked SFGAM number 1. It's technically my home park if you exclude Mt. Olympus. But the rides at SFGAM are amazing. I didn't ride all of them because I'm not fully prepared for the "Larger ones" but the ones I did ride were great. American Eagle is not as bumpy as people think it's a really good wooden coaster. Viper my favorite wooden coaster in the park was amazing, filled with tons of airtime. X-flight is a very underrated wing coaster, my favorite of the park by its uniqueness, and how fun the rollercoaster is. ( That's why I'm excited to go on Gatekeeper. ) Joker... I had no idea what happened but it was insane. Superman Ultimate Flight was very smooth for me and the pretzel loop threw me off. Whizzer is a top tier family coaster. It is just intense for a family coaster. Batman is very intense, it's a great rollercoaster. Demon was still very solid, the entrance into the 1st corkscrew kinda whipped me around but the operator was great. He sent us off with, " Have fun on the headache. " Which was very surprising that I didn't get a headache. And we went on a Tuesday so all the rollercoasters were WALK ONS. The operations are great also except for X-flight which took a little longer but it was still fairly decent. If you live near Six Flags Great America you should definitely go.

SFGAM is my home park and I would go twice a year in my teens and twenties. About 12 years ago they really started to tank due to some really bad choices by management that ruined it for me. However, I finally decided to go yesterday (first time back after 10 years) and was more than pleasantly surprised! They fixed the issues that I had and added more pretty amazing coasters which also helped to make the lines much shorter. The Raging Bull will always be my personal favorite, but I loved Goliath and X Flight. Didn't get to try Maxx Force, but getting to ride all the big ones I really wanted to (multiple times) with only 20 minute wait times more than made up for that. The Joker was a great ride, too! Staff members were upbeat and interacted wonderfully with the crowds which was a far cry from how they were the last few times I was there. I will be buying a season pass next year! Great video, keep up the good work!

I'm surprised that a lot of people are saying that SFGA is among most coaster enthusiasts favourite Six Flags parks, like top 3. I would think they would not like it because the coasters aren't high as at most parks (because of height restrictions due to O'Hare being close by), but I'm glad that people are enjoying the park.

I just went to sfmm this weekend, which was the opening weekend of the new Wonder woman ride, and I have to say it was probably my best visit in the past few years. Longest I waited was 1 hour for tatsu, and the highlight would be riding the new Wonder woman ride 5 times on it's opening day and waiting 5 minutes to get on X2 the day before. Definitely lots of improvements to the park, and with it operating 19 of it's 20 coasters I would put it #1

Magic Mountain is my home park and I'll say you pretty much nailed my thoughts on it. I went this past May for my best friend's birthday with a group of 10 people ranging from big thrill seekers to borderline non riders and overall it was a great time for everyone but outside of the rides its not good. The food especially is wayyyyy overpriced and not good. If anyone is planning on visiting, I'd say go during the Fall or Winter because the heat can become unbearable and don't go to the park's Johnny Rockets. It's below average at best and not worth the price, the shakes are the only saving grace

I’m glad that this is your own opinions and it’s not biased based on other reviews for me it is very annoying to hear something get praised or trashed on because a large creator likes it for example I feel nitro is a decent hyper but it isn’t the best in America like a lot of people claim because that’s what coaster studios praise.

    • @ThemeParkAvenue
      @ThemeParkAvenue  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Absolutely. With how popular some such as Coaster Studios are, it is easy to be influenced by his opinions. It is because of him that I expected La Ronde to be the worst. However, once one experiences a park or ride they are able to break away from that influence and form their own viewpoints. Also, I personally agree with you on Nitro.

I live locally in Queensbury and Great Escape is just a sad Six Flags park. I wish when Charlie Wood sold the park he had sold it to an independent owner or smaller chain although I don't know if it would make any difference because of the locals that hate when they add any attractions. I have always dreamed of what the park could be but after the way it's been pretty much ignored the past 10 years other than some rides and waterpark expansion, the future doesn't seem too bright. I don't even know why they added the hotel other than to get some year round revenue. I wish they would just add some decent coasters but I doubt they will.

Six Flags Great Adventure is my local park, and while I love it, I agree with you regarding the loose article policy. I went last week for the first time in 4 years, and was baffled by the policy. Not only did it come off as a scam to make you pay egregious prices for lockers, but the policy was super inconsistent. Some rides had staff turning you away before you even got on line if you had anything in your pockets. Others didn't care and just let you put it in a cubby or the floor. It didn't make any sense. But of course there is a drink rack for your $20-$35 drink cup you paid for.

You hit the nail on the head about the parks appearance, atmosphere, and park operations. And yeah, most of the rides there are very pleasant, while others leave more to be desired.

The Great Escape is my "local" park being from northern Vermont and it used to feel like an amazing place to visit, especially as a kid. As I've gotten older, each time I've visited the park, it seems like there's not only physically less stuff than each previous visit but the overall experience and atmosphere has become much more watered down. 8 years ago my siblings, parents, and I bought season passes and we visited the park about a dozen times during the summer. The first few visits had no issues, but by mid-June, they began taking away benefits, no free drinks, no free meals, etc, and by the end of the summer we were paying out-of-pocket for nearly everything that was originally included. Since 2014, I've only been about 4 times and the entire experience has been "meh". It's smaller than other parks, it's repetitive, and unless you're doing it as a kid or for your kids, it's not really a fantastic adult experience. Additionally, their resort property across the street is grossly overpriced for the quality of the park. If you are spending the night in the area, get a cheaper hotel for a quarter of the price. I have no problems with Queensbury NY as an area, but outside of The Great Escape, you're harder-pressed to find interesting things to do compared to other locations on this list.

    • @ThemeParkAvenue

      @ElderStatesman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Great Escape is my closest park as well. From Northern New York (originally from VT). Great Escape was great as a kid. But I got the same sense of "meh" as an adult. And my last visit there left a sour taste in my mouth... in 2007. More due to the people I hanged out with than the park, but the park was losing rides I wanted to try out as a kid. It's sad that the Splashwater Kingdom/Paul Bunion's Bucket Brigade have been dismantled or diminished from back when I was younger. It's sad that you have to go out of your way to find decent theme parks.
By contrast, La Ronde was much better. And being in Montréal is a treat all by itself.

I have lived in Orlando for 20 years but still make it back to my hometown of Chicago to visit SFGAM. Many complain about it's lack of elite coasters but not realize it is because of it's status as the true testing park (more so than fiesta Texas). Great America has received the most investment this millennium, while also being top heavy invested from 1988 to 1999 (rivaled only by great adventure and magic mountain at this time. Great Adventure was down to 4 coasters in 1989 And magic mountain was trying to take advantage of longer seasons and major metro to compete with cedar point as a capital). Once they were able to reinvent Great adventure, and expand Magic Mountain, six flags returned to Great America to become their park of choice. My guess is due to it's attendance rivaling nearly the same as it's two bigger markets, but year after year their earnings report put Great America well above others in profit. Also allowing it to be a testing park in metro that is 10 million (and racially matching of America's diversity count), it gives great data about public opinion as a whole. Final two advantages are Great America's proximity to Cedar Point and it's record of having the chains Hardest fighting park presidents I'm terms of getting a it's fair share in investment due to it's financial power brought into the companies profits..
Jim Withrobe (Previous park president of Great America is owed all the credit for the establishment of B&M, the creation of the inverted, outside looping coaster, and the constant height variance approvals he would win in court despite push back from local communities). Many don't know this but B&M never wanted to be a company. They worked on that bad intamin z force Coaster for intamin which put them initially in relationship with Jim. He was so impressed that when Great America was the recipient of Great Adventures Bobsled in 1989, they called what would be B&M to build new trains for capacity. It was this visit that got the ball rolling and convinced B&M to go into Business by building their first coaster Iron Wolf at Great America. It was then Jim's idea to compete with arrow suspended coasters by created a sketch of the inverted floorless trains that he wanted in the park. The relationship was so strong that B&M was back to build one of their first two hyper coasters in great America (with great America opening second, yet was taller, longer, and more unique). Great America was picked to get the b&m flying clone just one year after debut, and was the first park in north America to announce a wing coaster in 2012). B&M really is a staple or Chicago history in terms of firsts or near firsts).
Hank the next president who passed in January, got the park 6 coasters (3 record breakers) in his final 10 years, He fought against the superloop craze as early as 2013, which is why the park ended up getting the world's largest out of the deal as he demanded better for great America. Hank was also president of the committee that installed the justice league dark rides across the nation. He ensured as many kinks we're worked out before bringing such a tech driven attraction to his own park. Hank is also famous for being the park president that officially got Great America's Height Variance changed after 2014 Public outcry on Goliaths height and noise. He convinced the village administration that 125 feet was too short to compete these days, as it needed to compete with other parks like cedar fair. This gave Great America approval to build up to 200 feet with no variance on any land south of roaring rapids and the Yankee harbor in park Bay. This is why MaxxForce was able to stay secret til the end, while Goliath we knew 2 to 3 months prior to it's announcement. X flight was 120 feet simply to keep it a secret from the competition. The park wanted innovation that fit today's need for larger size.
As a final statement of why todays Great American History and coaster line up is so great -
Six Flags Great America is the only six flags park with 4 woodies, technically 5 since Eagle offers two different experiences on each track). Of these woodies, Goliath is Six Flags Only topper track woodie from RMC. Since they no longer make these, and since lighting run went hybrid, it is one of only 2 in the world. Goliath is once again the fastest wooden coaster, still maintains the tallest drop, and is the steepest full circuit wooden coaster in the world. It was the first to introduce the zero G Stall, and the only wooden coaster to have a dive loop. American Eagle remains the tallest, fastest, longest racing coaster in the world, and even debuted as the tallest and fastest period. Viper is the only coaster in the six flags family that was designed and built directly in park. it is the best paced version IMO of the cyclone inspired model (I say inspired as Viper is slightly taller, has modernized unbanked laterals, and a double dip that Cyclone doesn't have).
MaxxForce is the only airlaunch coaster in the chain. It's the fastest accelerating coaster in the world outside Japan, and has one of the most unique features that follow. The double invert from Vipers queue looks like one mega 175 foot loop with one of the greatest near miss head chopper moments as it passes under the track. The world's fastest inversion that follows is amongst the most intense elements I've experienced. With wicked twister gone, Vertical Velocity has become six Flags tallest and fastest inverted coaster, and making it a 3 way tie as Americas tallest and fastest with two cedar fair clones.
Batman The Ride is the world's first inverted outside looping coaster. It also has ACE landmark status Superman Ultimate Flight is the only flying coaster in the Midwest
Whizzer is the last of it's kind in America, and one of only two speed racers left in the world. It too is an ACE landmark coaster. The Dark Knight is one of the few wild mouse that truly lacks any breaking upon the hairpin turns and truly feels like a much bigger wild mouse that it is. Theming is good, not great, and the warehouse building is an eye sore next to superman's drop.
X flight was underrepresented in 2012 due to Dollywood opening it's park for Wild Eagle. Earlier beating Great America to the punch. Wild Eagle's 131 foot straight drop and 4 non unique inversions was imo no where on the same level as X Flight. X flight introduced to America the nations first wingover drop, the most inversions on a wing coaster at the time, and that grand finale near miss of the air traffic control tower and the additional construction beam you travel into right after for a second near miss. XFlight's ride time is also longer than Wild Eagle's due to all the extra track wasted to go up and down a mountain.
Demon is the chains best themed classic arrow with the 3 tunnels, rockwork, ect. One thing about demon that I enjoy is the fact of it's position in the skyline and direction of the lifthill. While the coaster is only 102 feet in height, viper sits down in a valley with the SW Territory, giving a false illusion of being higher up. In addition that pop of airtime on the first drop is always a shock.
Raging Bull is truly the only b&m hyper twister in the world, has one of the best flojector first drops of all time thanks to the pre drop. It's also the first coaster to have open air sideless carts that have become standard today. The 9th row on this coaster, far right side seat actually has given me more airtime then Mako here in Orlando.
Finally, Six Flags Great America to me truly beats others in over all coasters because only 2 are kiddie, with one actually being historical and therefore another rarity in the chain. The other parks with high numbers of coasters tend to cheat with a ridiculous number of kiddie coasters.
To close up I just wanted to shout out a few other interesting notes
    * The Columbia Carousel is the world's tallest double deck carousel
    * The bumper cars have the largest bumper car floor in the world
    * The park was the first park to debut a 7 looping coaster. It also has the highest drop and fastest speed of any steel coaster for it's time. It also debuted with the worlds highest inversion at the time.
    * Iron Wolf, while now named firebird at SFA, yes it's a weak b&m but for it bring the first b&m standup twister, and the original tallest, fastest, and longest standup coaster it was big for it's day. It also was the first to introduce a corkscrew to a standup design.
    * Great America was home to the unfortunate Deja Vu, the world's largest boomerang model
*Ragin Cajun at SFA always gets good reviews. I concur as when it was first built at Great America I remember thinking it was the best crazy mouse I had ridden. Not sure how this one is so different.

      Part 2
Their waterpark is definitely in the top two of the chain. Nearly 35 slides, Tallest water coaster, world's largest interactive play structure, and the pure size of it the park is definitely a good reason to keep it as a separate gate.
(I laughed when you talked about Green lantern in Jersey. It was originally planned to go in the spot of MaxxForce and a portion of the waterpark prior to Jersey getting the ride at the last minute. Hank fought hard with corporate on this coaster and in exchange we ended up with XFlight one year later which is superior.
So thanks for your ranking, thanks for seeing the greatness of Great America, and if the park is reading this, thanks for being inovative instead of being cedar point that chooses to instead wait for innovation of others in order to make the ride bigger. Also if six flags is changing it's investment strategy to become more like cedar fairs I would hope to see A Giga In the chains future. While the parks nearby airport limits height to 330 feet with a height variation, Great America still has time to have a marketable Giga by building an out and back towards your northern edge. I know this is closer to communities, but with the use of additional natural barriers, and tunnels, a giga would be perfect fit and attendance driver. It's out and back layout will make it unique to raging Bull, and the lifthill of a giga would do nothing but excite the masses when they turn into the property and it's the first coaster seen. Also please do not get a clone of jersey devil. While I know it's unlikely to get a clone due to it's design and the potential spots for development or replacement. The park spent money to ensure XFlight, Goliath, and maxxforce could not be cloned. Stick with this concept and you will continue to be the winning park

Twisted Colossus is truly a masterpiece. The restraints are comfortable and just loose enough so that you get some fantastic hang time, the drops at the beginning are intense, the dueling element is extremely well-done, the inversions are so smooth and fast you feel like you are flying. The feeling of being in the spiral loop when you are mere inches away from the other train is unmatched by any other coaster I’ve been on. The wait is long, yes, but the ride is a whole 4 minutes. 100% worth it. Would go to magic mountain just for that ride honestly

So the 50’s themed area (aka Rockville) at SFFT is one of those weird areas where the whole area used to be completely immersive with 50s theme rides and over time new rides were stuck there that didn’t totally match the theme. There used to be a 50’s theme car ride where you ‘drive’ a car on a track that ran up to where the queue for poltergeist is, poltergeist used to have the bare minimum of theming, the DC themed rides (Wonder Woman and Batman) were a standard water ride where you go up a hill and then down to a giant splash and the mentioned above car ride. Part of me wishes they would do a slight retheme for the area because it is a mosh pit of different themes and this park has the strongest themed area of Six Flags overall but at the same time I love the 50s theme

Sfog is my home park, recently mindbender was redone and given b&m trains. It was much better before this, also there frisbee is called pandemonium not crazanity, and if you went to it in 2022 scream machine should have been running smooth as it does for me considering it just got a gci re-track however the wheel seat sucks. And if they connected Gotham city to the rest of the park, it would be a long walk though the parking lot as you can see Batman from the queue of pandemonium. I’ll admit though, I can see how getting to the back of the park would be confusing for someone who doesn’t know the layout through and through.

As a SFMM fanboy I know all too well the strengths and weaknesses of the park. And I would also place it third. The potential is there for it to easily be the best, but there just isn’t enough diversity in the ride line up, and certain aspects of the park need updating. So I get it.
And I don’t think you’ll find many people anymore that would rank this park above Cedar Point, or even Kings Island. The park really fell behind after a decade of sheer neglect by former management. I think it’s in the process of redemption however. Give it 10 years or so.

Did you call dahlonega mine train terrifying? I do agree with you about sfne's theming since none of the parks areas other than maybe Rockville are truly done well for six flags imo. Also the whole good day/bad day thing really causes the shift in people's park rankings. With that said I get why some enthusiasts aren't eager to revisit the majority of the six flags parks. The thing with SFMM is that if you love positive Gs, it's the best park. Period. (Except for maybe King's Dominion because of i305))
    Goliath? Positive Gs.
    Viper? Positive Gs.
    Batman? Positive Gs.
    Riddler? Positive Gs.
    Scream? Positive Gs.
    Crazanity? Positive Gs.
    Ninja? Positive Gs.
West Coast Racers? Airtime and positive Gs.
Tatsu? No positive Gs... with a side of a positive G overdose.
    X2? *Quantum* Gs.

For the record, X2's roughness is *severely* dependent on where you sit. My favorite seat (front row, inside seat) is glossy smooth to the point that I could marathon it indefinitely without any discomfort, whereas most of the outside seats are rough to the point of intolerable.

However.... I went to KD last weekend, and while its a great park, and absolutely gorgeous, operations had me missing the millenium crew, of all the crews to miss from CP. 6 1/2 minute dispatches on Dominator! Thats SIX, and a half minutes. There were ZERO drink ststions opened, and to get a drink at a restaraunt you had to wait through the food lines which were all overflowing out the doors. The only crew that had dispatches under 3 minutes was the I-305 crew. Speaking of 305, it is criminal the way the ride looks. That ride deserves SO much more love from both the park, and public. I would love a coaster trade. We get 305 at CP, and ship Millie to KD.
