In our family, when we say grace, even though someone else has already started eating, we say, "We thank you Lord for that which we have already begun to receive...." It makes everyone giggle, and if you can't talk, share Joy, joke, and laugh with God, who can you do those things with?
I got so excited when I heard Justine say "Everyone knows only reason I'm marrying Ron is because of how good his chicken salad is", I just about dropped my phone! 😆🤸🤸😍🤩 I can't wait till the wedding ‼️🤜🤛💍💕💒💐🎆🧨💥🎉🎊 I just love watching you two doing stuff together 🤗🥰💗
I love eating my meals with you both. I usually eat alone. My children are grown and my husband is always working. So, You both are my meal guests. Thanks for coming!
Chiming in again real fast to suggest coarse salt and a lemon for the cutting board. Sprinkle the board with a good amount of the salt (I'm sure regular table salt would be fine too) and scrub the salt in with a lemon that's been cut in half. I've heard this before and confirmed with Google. Worth a try! 🍋
They are called Swedish rosettes and they’re made with an hot iron dipped in hot oil. I make them every christmas. They are so good, everyone can’t stop eating them.
Ron, you are fortunate. I belonged to a re-enactment group where the Captain often disciplined the young troops with a bite of sardines. Personally I never had to undergo punishment for infraction of rules, but I like fish. I used to keep a can of kippered herring in my haversack. A few of the younger guys kept a pop tart or two in theirs and claimed it was hardtack biscuits.
One of my fondest smell memories was going into the cure and smoke house at the meat processing plant where I worked. Something about that combination of pork grease, salt, sugar and hickory smoke.
And on that note I do hope you two continue to make these videos !!! I always look forward to the live chats and watching you go about your daily like in the 1800’s ! Please continue !!!!!!!
My husband and I watch your channel every time one new one comes out. We feel like we are sitting right their at the table with you and we smile and laugh right along with you. We answer questions even though you can't hear us. We feel as if it was a great visit and a great time. Thanks for having us over.
I have fallen in love with your channel (well both of your channels). ❤️ By the way, that dessert you’ve got are called Rosettes and are a Scandinavian cookie. My grandma made them. You use a rosette iron, dip it in batter, and dip that in the hot oil. Very delicious!
My Cane Corso, T’Challa, literally watches y’all with me!! I think it’s the sounds….the chickens, the fire, and just the simplicity of what’s happening. I must tell y’all, I appreciate the fact y’all say grace and give thanks to The Lord. I’m so appreciative of how traditional your relationship is. Have y’all ever hosted overnight guests? Oh and yes ma’am, I love my gravy thick. Otherwise is just sauce 😉 After I BBQ, I have to wash my hair and shower. I smell just like charcoal. I love cooking over the fire, but I don’t like walking around smelling like smoke. I can only be around our actual pit, for a few minutes at a time, but boy oh boy smoked food is awesome!!
I heard from another channel that talks about life in the middle ages that they would wash their wooden bowls, etc with soap and water, sometimes vinegar then place everything out in the sun for hours. It did the trick of keeping everything clean and no bacteria. The pastries are made with a small metal mold that resembles a branding iron. You dip the lower half into batter then into oil and fry. Only takes a minute. Then pry them off, let drain, then add powered sugar. Y'all got a save the date yet for a wedding ?? This is the most hinting I have ever heard y'all do ! Please do a wedding for your characters so we can join in. Let us all know and have a wish list ready. Go for some expensive items that we can contribute towards.
Another great video! You two are perfect for each other & so fun to watch! 💕 I love the historical aspect of your channels but I also enjoy hearing bits & pieces about your modern lives as well! St. Genevieve sounds like a great place to live with a lot of interesting history. We live in Jacksonville, FL so we visit St. Augustine a lot & the atmosphere in these kinds of historic places is unlike any other, it really feels like you’ve taken a step back in time! Can’t wait to see what y’all cook up next! 😁
Ron can you make her ring out of iron. Not sure if it's called forging, but the thought of you making her ring is just so romantic!!! Love both of you, you two seem like family. Love, prayers, and warm wishes to both of you.
When you cook your beets root always leave the stems on till they are cook so they won’t stain your hands or your cutting boards just leave about 4 inches of the stem on the beet stain will ware off and for now it just gives it character
The desserts are called Buñuelos de Viento which are Mexican rosette fritters. My grandma makes them all the time. I'm sure every culture has a different name for them. They're so good!
When Justine mention giving her chicken a treat it reminded me when I was young an my dad found a baby chicken in the hen house an he brought it into the house an I got to raise it. It had its own little spot in the house to sleep an when it became an adult chicken, it would come up to our window when the sun went down to come in an sleep in her little area. I named her Henrietta. I miss living in the country an being in a small farm. But my husband said if we every live in the country again an have animals that they would not be allowed to come into the house to live...😃
I just love their shows! I still want a dress like Justine’s y’all get some merchandise I’m sure there’s a lot of people that would buy. Try course salt and vinegar on the cutting board
Those dessert you had there in Iran are called window bread 😅😅. Just because they are in the exact shape of traditional window glass designs. In the past the windows were made of colorful glasses in so many detailed designs…. Anyways, yea… those are called window bread 😄😁
You guys are such a cute couple. I know when people film video's they are usually of their better more abundance times, but I can tell the way you are together that you will have good time getting through stressful times that lie ahead along with the good things. You both know how to laugh at things find things funny to laugh at about yourselves without putting yourselves down your both self motivating and motivating towards each other and that will make for a strong marriage. :) bless you both.
Oh my gosh! You guys are engaged?? That's so awesome!! You two are perfect together! How come you never shared that with us? I feel like you're family. 😁 The meal looked incredible, and I watched the making of the meal on other chsnnel, and it's all very easy to make. Ron has got to be in heaven with all your delicious early American dishes you're always making! You are such a phenomenal cook! I so love watching your early American channels! You both are so authentic in every way to that Era. Would it be ok if we saw Ron doing some of his chores in a video too? I love seeing all aspects of living in that period. Thank you for another awesome video guys! Now, we need to hear ALLLLL about how he proposed, what are your wedding plans, etc! I'm so excited for you two! Love and hugs! Tonda in Ohio ❤🤗😁

Hi, Justine and Ron!! Sorry to have missed the live.🙁 I hope you both are well. I enjoyed the chat and the sharing of a meal. It’s always nice to hear what you’ve been up to...even if it’s your modern day lives! I enjoy both your historical channels and I enjoy getting to to know you both for who you are on he real world. I wish I could go to Pioneer Days. I love events like that. I must have missed where you got engaged, congratulations! I wish you the best!! Be well and God bless.
My aunt made the pretty fried things, she called them fritters, she added apples and called them apple fritters. the cast iron pieces were dipped in her batter and the she put them down in the hot fat (probably lard) When the were cooked they fell off the cast iron and she dipped them out.
Justine jokes about only 60 years to get her list done. Take it from one who knows that if your with the right person 60 years is not enough time. And if it’s not the right person 6 years will feel like an eternity. So that being said, Love Well, Live Well and Cherish Every Moment. When I am no longer here I want my wife to be able to look back and always be able to say she was Loved Well.
Your comment was so absolutely right and you made me weep with the last sentence , may you live a hundred years with good health all the way ! God bless you and your wife!
I understand your problem with breathing. I ran a wood burner for primary heat for many years and never had a problem with my asthma until I moved and started using a furnace that blew force air. Now I have problems all the time! Wish I could go back!
your other show popped up on my recommended. it was so awesome! I had the biggest headache & it was so peaceful to watch. after watching my headache went away.thankyou for your content.😁
I love history and I've been watching Absolute History on BBC and now I get to watch this so its a win win. I tell you one thing kids this day and age should know how people lived back then , children helped around the house and did chores.
I love watching you both and hearing about your modern life mixed in with your period life is so fun. The flowers are gorgeous and good job Ron putting them together. Much love ❤️
Ron, you and I are very alike in that aspect..because I too despise seafood 😂 🤮 it’s so hard to find someone who doesn’t like seafood most people will have at least fish!

@Candi i only eat lobster very rarely so I love it, I don't like shrimp but I never tried oysters, raw oysters seem so gross to me, like slimy, I would definitely gag.
I had to laugh when you said no one daydreams about Dodges, I love my Dodges to the point to give my partner's Chevy more power I put my Dodges hoodie in the passenger seat 😂 But I do agree with Ron, each decade has it's beauties. Love, love, love watching y'all .

Great show! You two are so much fun to watch! Ron did a fabulous job restoring the Ford tractor! Would love to hear more about how y’all met and your courtship. I would love to visit St Genevieve and met y’all!
Hello Justine & Ron, I love your videos & have been watching since the very beginning (when you worked for the Stephenson's). It seems there are varying opinions as to the name of the desserts. My Grandma called them Crullers, & she was from the Old Country! Love to Alfred too! Michelle
Nice tractor! I enjoy when y’all talk about modern stuff like that. My dad has a 1952 Ford 8N tractor. It looks very similar to Ron’s tractor, except it’s red and white. The things 70 years old and still runs like it was made yesterday. My dad uses it to till up our garden and mow our field. It technically belongs to my brother because it was a wedding present from his previous marriage, but we have more land than he does at the moment, so it stays at my parent’s house. It was in rough shape when my brother got it, but my dad and brother restored it to its original condition, and it runs great now. It just needed a little TLC.
I know y'all are young, but the dessert your friends brought you was a big thing in the 70's called rosettes (Scandinavian I believe or the French called their Beignets) At 68 years old it is interesting to watch all you young people not knowing what you do is not new but, in some cases, was around even before my time. I enjoy watching your cooking from the 17 and 1800s.
I went over to Early American and I can’t seem to find where you cook this meal, can you tell me what title it’s under? Thank you guys for all you do!👍🙏🇺🇸.
Fun to watch! I adore the cooking tools! The iron utensils, the pottery, methods of everyday life! Thanks!💕💕WV shout out to all the reenactors that you include in your videos!!! Especially candy!
You're a perfect match. I've just subscribed and now I'm binge watching. I'm a cook and truly appreciate all the extra extra work you do in that kitchen 🌹 By the way, my 68' Camaro had an 8 track, and I loved it.

The way I see it, if he was even remotely as grumpy, mean and vengeful as some people think, why would we all yearn to be with him so desperately?

Nice tractor! I enjoy when y’all talk about modern stuff like that. My dad has a 1952 Ford 8N tractor. It looks very similar to Ron’s tractor, except it’s red and white. The things 70 years old and still runs like it was made yesterday. My dad uses it to till up our garden and mow our field. It technically belongs to my brother because it was a wedding present from his previous marriage, but we have more land than he does at the moment, so it stays at my parent’s house. It was in rough shape when my brother got it, but my dad and brother restored it to its original condition, and it runs great now. It just needed a little TLC.
thats awesome!! They just keep going! lol
Beautiful healthy chickens !
Hi Justine and Ron. Love both videos. Love from Toronto Canada.🇨🇦😍 Great show as always. Looking forward to the next episode.Thank you both.
Awesome! Thank you!
The deserts might be Italian pitzels...my Italian grandma used to make them all the time! They are so so yummy! Love your channel! xoxo
The sweets are called "sugar waffles". My Dad loved them. They were his favorite state fair treat.
