I just bought another bag of minneola tangelos and they are so good. It's a cross between a mandarin orange or tangerine and a pomelo or grapefruit. The name comes from tangerine/pomelo. I was so impressed with the first bag of them that I could hardly wait to get another.
As for the Lima beans, I love a big pot of them cooked with ham and spooned over some cornbread.

Enjoyed your chat! Inspired to make my favorite Boston Baked Bean dish, post Easter ham perhaps. Also, thanks for mentioning Samson's. I really had fun looking through their website and love that I found many unique items, like their horn cups, to add to my everyday kitchen wares. Looking into the spoons too, because why use standard stuff made in another country when you can have something beautiful and historical for a reasonable cost made locally, in the USA.

42:45 Did they know about citrus preventing scurvy? Yes, in 1747 The HMS Salisbury was the British Naval vessel upon which James Lind, a doctor from Edinburgh, undertook the world's first clinical trial. He grouped 12 sailors into pairs and gave each pair a separate diet. He observed that the two men who consumed citrus fruits avoided catching the dreaded scurvy. In 1770 the name Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) was coined by the British explorer Captain James Cook. He noticed the indigenous people of Australia used the leaves to make a tea that smelled like nutmeg. Captain Cook saw this traditional practice and coined the name “Tea Tree” and had his sailors drink it as a scurvy preventative (however I don't think it actually contains vitamin C, but they thought it would help prevent scurvy.) Even earlier the Iroquois used white cedar to prevent scurvy in winter: “A most famous example was Jacques Cartier in the winter of 1536 in what is now Quebec City. Suffering scurvy, they obtained a potion from the Iroquois used to treat their own symptoms during winter. It was primarily a boiled tea of Thuja occidentalis, aka white cedar. This tree became known afterwards as the arborvitae, which means tree of life, attesting to its continued use against scurvy in the cold northern regions.” (from Desert Sun online magazine). In modern times it is a common practice in Russia to drink pine needle tea during winter, as pine needles contain vitamin C, but you have to be careful not to fully boil the water. Boiling water destroys the Vitamin C and releases bitter terpenes, so you make the tea with really really warm but not boiling water.

❤️God Bless! The reason tomatoes were suspect is because when the acids from the tomatoes interacted with the pewter plates, made people violently sick/ some died. Once the discovery was made, the two would never meet again. Wooden or pottery bowls were used instead. Tomatoes are considered fruit by botanists but vegetable by nutritionists. Back in the day, British put a high tax on fruit so colonists started calling tomatoes vegetables to avoid the tax.

Wonderful cleaning agent and very old fashioned. Water, orange peels pounded in the water, little bit of vinegar. And random herbs. Store this in a container and let it marinate for a while. Pour it out on a cloth and scrub things down. Smells wonderful.

Lovely bunch of daffodils in the pitcher!!! I have them all over my yard! Indeed, they do grow from bulbs, you could ask your mother if you could dig some up and plant them in your yard, the bulbs multiply every year and bring lots of friendly bees to pollinate your gardens! Enjoyed the vid, dinner looked delicious!!!
