This song has a gloomy feel to it, like you discovered an awful truth. Reminds me of the time you're in Dao and it plays in the carpet weaver house. "These women are weaving carpets. This will take almost 40 years to weave. This woman has worked on it continually since she was a child. Remember, little man. Some are born to misfortune."
Doesn't it also play in Freesia or Euro, or in some other place where there's some unsettling/terrible stuff going on? (Like the slaves, or the truth about Neil's parents.) But yeah, the Dao scene definitely stuck with me.
This game has been a big influence on me. As a child, there was nothing more intense than the emotions stirred in this game. That's what happens when you're young and imaginative. It was disturbing though, how often I thought of this game and this SONG, hoping that my destiny held something great. Deep down, I knew nothing could amount to the Illusion...
+DiruMede You're not the only one! Especially at 1:08 , its mysterious tone used to make me anxious. It gave this game so much atmosphere, as a kid my imagination ran wild...
The thing that stood out to me the most from this game, atmospherically, was amount of decayed bodies and skeletons littered throughout the dungeons. Examining the texts that popped up whenever you checked one of the remains sent chills up my 8-10 year old self's spine. Very few games, or even media in general have given me such a macabre experience the way this game has.
This always kind of gave me chills, with the pan flute melody and that windy background sound. Feels so solemn and reverent, like in your some place where something important happened in the past. Or where many people lived and died.
Because of this game, i always wanted to visit all the places and dungeons of Illusion of gaia. Tomorrow, after nearly 30 years, i will visit the first place, Machu Pichu. Next week i will visit Nazca. It was always a dream of my childhood to see this mysterial places. I will hear this music tomorrow. I promise
This game used to give me nightmares as a kid. I ALWAYS thought about it, and even if it doesn't scare me anymore, I still whistle it from time to time.
This was a pretty somber game all around, and this was always one of my favorite themes in it. This was a perfect 10. Even though it was easy to get stuck. Sad ending.
Lola ran forward and collapsed in tears at the doorway. A dirty, bloodied old man held the fragile body of her only grandson, Will, who was near death. The man hobbled inside and laid the unconscious boy on the table. Will's breathing was barely audible, his face pale and drawn. Lola sobbed and clutched at her grandchild. She kissed him and caressed his head, murmuring a lullaby she used to sing when he was an infant. "The expedition has been lost. Your grandson is the only one left."
Places where you can hear this song in your earphone and match perfectly with the ambiance: - Macchu Picchu (Peru) - Nazca Paintings (Peru) - Apollo’s Gate (Naxos Island, Greece) - Atacama desert (Chile) - Caracalla Baths (Rome, Italy) - Torres del Paine (Chile austral)
There's a level of uncertainty within this ominous melody, that seems to just perfectly encapsulate the feeling of a long and lonely mystery, as you worked to uncover the lost, even almost eerie truths of origins . . . Honestly, really thinking back on it, this whole game invoked this sort of feeling of desolation, deep down inside. Like there was this hollowness; a void that just couldn't be filled or even explained. They really did a fantastic job of, almost as if making the user reflect heavily upon their own soul with this game; is really the best way I can think to describe it. Even other similar games of the Era, such as Soul Blazer, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, F.F-series, Zelda; all great games with amazing storylines and unique mechanics of their own, but still none gave me that feeling Illusion of Gaia did, at least not quite as to the depth that it did anyways. There was just something even deeper in there --Something. “Maybe it was all just an elaborate dream” . . . 🔮🌎 Truly awesome!!👏
this song appeared many times throughtout the game... It appeared once when you are on a ship and suddenly you wake up and everybody is dead... It also appears near to the town that is close to the skies (where you get to talk with some spirits)
When I was a kid, this song would give me the creeps. Something about it gets under your skin... like you just walked into a place mortals don't belong.
This game... it just has an amazing atmosphere and i think this song shows that to the best degree. It's not a really interesnting song really but the way it's executed just makes it so perfect
So damn epic.. Yet again, a strange star spears in the sky. What could it be? What is going to happen? This music captures the timeless essence of fear and tragedy.
This tune plays while most frightening moments in game, like appearing of the moon tribe (I still have goosebumps when I see their faces), a gold ship, entering the graveyard in mines with all these bodies laying around, discovering that there are slaves under the shrine, seaside palace, Natives' Village, nazca painting (and a moon tribe again! O_O) My friends can't understand why I'm afraid of such things, because "it's just a bunch of moving pixels". I'm weird
illusion of gaia has one of the best composed theme songs and storyline of all time... you'll never find a modern game that could compete with it asides from its graphics..
Actually it plays in a area where you are soposed to be but cannot act yet,its a introduction to something awfull happening like the temple of mu. In the temple of mu you find ghosts of people who were cursed and you talk to them. The song has its dramatic implements.
@JustinDanger The basic background chords on a synthesizer are A-B-C-E in dissonance, then D-E-F-A, also in dissonance, then E-GSharp-B then back to A-B-C-E. I might make a tab just for the heck of it
I watched Once upon a time in America movie with Robert Dinero and when I heard the whistle song there it instantly reminded me of this game whistle song
Coming back to this, I feel the track is mocking those listening to it, reminding them how powerless they truly are despite being this abominable Avatar of the World. You cannot stop free will, despite it enslaving and killing other people.
It implies the unbreakable cycle of death and rebirth that is the game and everything that the previous humans did and perished in is just another layer of "illusion" in the game that's screwing up the natural balance of things.. at least until you fix it at the end. But it's still a pyrrhic victory as while the balance is restored, everyone will forget their hardships, trials and love Something like that
@rosepetals227 Have to agree entirely for the seaside palace. Remember playing that late at night when I first got there and the atmosphere of the area just kinda creeped me out with this music playing :P
This game disturbed me in some ways with it's cryptic themes like this one and constant reminder of death and danger around every corner. They just don't make games like this anymore...
Greetings, fellow ninja. Thanks for the reply, though I wasn't actually talking about the song, but the text written by "lemke11", which seems to describe Will's returning home from the expedition with his father at the very beginning of the game. I'm supposing it's either directly translated from the japanese version (the dialogue and story was actually written by a renowned author, but alot of the good stuff was lost in the translation, I've read) or maybe it's just a bit of fan fiction?
A common complaint I hear about this game is that it's about destroying a comet and doesn't have a primary villain, and 1) turning into a being of light and dark to fight a living comet piloted by a dark goddess is metal as fuck and 2) did they completely miss the real plot about how we must face up to man's inhumanity to man and the harsh nature of reality because we're the only ones who can save each other?
It plays several times throughout the game. In order from memory: Moon Tribe's Camp Incan Ruins (outside cliff) Incan Gold Ship Nazica Plains Seaside Palace (near Mu) Undersea Tunnel (en route to Angel Village Various Labour Camps Natives Village/Angkor Wat (part) Tower of Babel
holy moly fella. your so right, i felt the same way about it. wish i could get myself being sucked in by games nowadays. actually its still possible if you use mushrooms/acid and play xD cant imagine my childhood without those precious moments :) when i see my little cousins play their games i kinda see the same thing in their eyes i felt back then...
I can't remember this scene. Maybe I've forgotten it, but it could also be that this scene wasn't in the german PAL version of the game. Especially in the past censors were really oversensitive.

Ive been looking for this song for 20 years, finally. I am flooded with immense satisfaction and nostalgia.
No matter who you are or where your from this song echos in your mind from time to time and will never cease. Masterpiece.
for shizzie

"These women are weaving carpets. This will take almost 40 years to weave. This woman has worked on it continually since she was a child. Remember, little man. Some are born to misfortune."
It's like I could just hear the text bibble and other game noises, as I read this.
@@mrzerkaman lol

But yeah, the Dao scene definitely stuck with me.
So how bout dat tearpot pouring on Neil's parents eh
@@adventureoflinkmk2 That revelation gave me chills back then..even til this day
Even 25 years later, I catch myself from time to time whistling this melody.
It's a reminder to me, about the cruelty of man. There's nothing I can do to stop it, and it continues to exist. "Some are fated to misfortune."
As do I and I’m sure many others. And today that brought me here and to this comment 👍🏻 .
I just had this melody stuck in my head at work today. It has a mysterious way of popping up.
How awesome would it be whistling this, and some random recognises it.
This game has been a big influence on me. As a child, there was nothing more intense than the emotions stirred in this game. That's what happens when you're young and imaginative.
It was disturbing though, how often I thought of this game and this SONG, hoping that my destiny held something great.
Deep down, I knew nothing could amount to the Illusion...
...
The Illusion is that those who appreciate such music aren't thought of as the evolved humans.
No.
We all have our own tower to climb.
For some reason this song had a lot of impact in me, still does.
+DiruMede You're not the only one! Especially at 1:08 , its mysterious tone used to make me anxious. It gave this game so much atmosphere, as a kid my imagination ran wild...
Hearing this got me right in the feels

I always hear this song when I'm exploring old houses, hiking trails, or ancient art exhibits at museums.
Here's an achievement for you: If you ever go to visit Machu Pichu, walk around with this song playing in your earphones!
challenge accepted
Play it out loud with speaker!

It's long been a dream of mine to travel Will's journey to the ruin sites. I will absolutely be bringing this track with me when someday I do.
i'll do it someday and post back here when it happens! thanks for the tip!
Mystical, sad, profound, solemn...amazing track...great choice imo to use this many times during the game!
This game used to give me nightmares as a kid. I ALWAYS thought about it, and even if it doesn't scare me anymore, I still whistle it from time to time.

Dark, strong vibes and memories! Love it
This was a pretty somber game all around, and this was always one of my favorite themes in it.
This was a perfect 10. Even though it was easy to get stuck. Sad ending.
This music was creepy to me as kid. And now I'm so much older and have lost so much that Id gladly go back to those times.
Nostalgia! YEAHA!
Haunting song, always used in the perfect spots. This game excelled at creating atmosphere, especially creepy/eerie ones.

I have a permanent fascination with the Nazca because of this damn game.
I swear Anthony Horowitz got the idea to feature the Nazca lines in book 2 of the Power of Five. Just cause it features the line "Cygnus means swan!".

The perfect vibe for an empty place with good memories that once meant something
I always come back to listen to this...
one of my favorite RPGS. Very dark storyline, but very nostalgic.
Always in my head !!!
Just like I cant Forget it ...
Strange but I love it !
Best song on the Illusion of Gaia soundtrack
this song popped up in my head today so here i am.
this song appeared many times throughtout the game... It appeared once when you are on a ship and suddenly you wake up and everybody is dead... It also appears near to the town that is close to the skies (where you get to talk with some spirits)

Love Illuison of Gaia, one of my all time fav games.
Someday, I hope to play the soundtrack of this game in a hall with an orchestra. It's definitely one of my top favourites.
Sometimes I get nightmares while hearing this, still love this theme. What things awaits you? This theme tells you.
This theme still give me the creeps, wonder what will happen next, mysterious things in this game and i love it.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. Imagine if you woke up in the middle of the night and heard this playing randomly.
@@YourHomieHenry agree this theme still gives me good and bad vibes.
I would honestly pay $100 for a good remade version.

this track is..... smooth and misteryous, love it, the main sound it's a quena ( in my country that his name) epic
sorry i miss and am wrong it's a sanpoña :)
+jose mikael Tronshensky to be fair a Quena can play this song without problems, I play with a friend who has 2 quenas.
One of the best snes games.
illusion of gaia has one of the best composed theme songs and storyline of all time...
you'll never find a modern game that could compete with it asides from its graphics..
This is probably the most eeriest soundtrack from Illusion of Gaia, but it's a really good song ^^ I LOOOOOVE this game...
this game rocks this song makes me want to play it agian....im glad i have it on an emulator so my original doesnt get ruined :-P
back again 13 years later and this song still rocks. gon a boot up the ol emulator and run through it again.

solving the riddles in the cave where ishtar was was a great challenge for me when I was a kid.
Angel's Village... Mu... man, what a goog memories.
It really reminds me to the whistle song that cockeye plays in "once upon a time in america"
I don't know why, but I love this song... It made want to discover more in the game and keep playing :d
i love this game and i love this song
I watched Once upon a time in America movie with Robert Dinero and when I heard the whistle song there it instantly reminded me of this game whistle song
this game and the golden sun series were the best RPG imo
and becouse of that song I have bought Fletnia to brings once of the best memories of my life into my soul
this song comes on when you find something really old
Like the gold ship in the early part of the game
@ChrisspacePatti I utterly agree with you there, it totally effed my shit up as a kid, they don't make em like they used to.
I keep thinking of the Sea Palace right before Mu whenever I hear this music. So haunting...

Something like that
This game and it's music have a different effect on me now. once I started opening my mind to the theory of ancient Astronauts...
You grew up. This music is Sign of the Past, you must think of the good old time when u played this game ;)
Still +1
When you visit an old ruined place where your ancestors once lived in . . .
*Music plays*
Recognize the past, what they had to go through, and how they overcame it. Hopefully, the generations after can do better.
i love love love this song... so mysterious and peacefull... thanks for posting. anyone have the tabs?
Damn creepy music. This game has one of the best SNES soundtracks ever.
Ishtar painting himself into the canvas made me shit bricks.
@RedSnyder141 I checked out a let's play of that game. Didn't seem that great, but had a few strengths in some ways.
@RedSnyder141 true, but they guy I watched didn't talk as he played, so just as well.
If you know this game, this is the song you remember.
@rosepetals227 Have to agree entirely for the seaside palace. Remember playing that late at night when I first got there and the atmosphere of the area just kinda creeped me out with this music playing :P
uh, J89, you know this came out way, way before Episode Three of Star Wars, right?
@Mannetasi
I beg to differ, try listening to the puppet show theme in Secret Of Evermore.
Ugh! No kidding! I always wanted to get the hell outta Mu cause it scared the piss out of me!
Absolutely!
@MechWarrior894 This also plays on the golden ship that is cursed and everybody died fo the curse
@turbohusque So true! they don't make games like this anymore :(
Illusion of Gaia: The Movie
It needs to happen. Would be easier than anime series that would take years to write
Que hermosa referencia a mi Perú 🇵🇪
❤️
Definitely covered this song on the Ocarina of Time ;)
Do you remember the buttons sequence for the N64 version? Would you type it here please?
true, the music in this game isn't digital which is what makes it good, it'd probably digital in HD
@piromaniac9999 I know that. It plays at many parts of the game.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Does it really feel right to make an evil plan face when listening to this?
This game disturbed me in some ways with it's cryptic themes like this one and constant reminder of death and danger around every corner. They just don't make games like this anymore...
what does the past sing?
This have something of mapuche etnies within Nice and confortable song

👽👽👽
found truth tune in to my favorite videos for more O:)
I wonder what an HD remake of this game would be like
It wasn't in the English version, either.
Where is it from, then? Does anyone know? I'm getting painfully curious myself.
It plays several times throughout the game. In order from memory:
Moon Tribe's Camp
Incan Ruins (outside cliff)
Incan Gold Ship
Nazica Plains
Seaside Palace (near Mu)
Undersea Tunnel (en route to Angel Village
Various Labour Camps
Natives Village/Angkor Wat (part)
Tower of Babel
yet Mu has an other, even more creepy music
and im surprised that this has 11 thousand hits..
yeaaah!!! D:
Its something about Peru and the Inca's...written all over this song...
holy moly fella. your so right, i felt the same way about it. wish i could get myself being sucked in by games nowadays. actually its still possible if you use mushrooms/acid and play xD cant imagine my childhood without those precious moments :) when i see my little cousins play their games i kinda see the same thing in their eyes i felt back then...
hauntin and ambient at the same time
@ChrisspacePatti
So true it hurts :S
Hmmm, maybe he got it from an extra fan book or something.
I can't remember this scene. Maybe I've forgotten it, but it could also be that this scene wasn't in the german PAL version of the game. Especially in the past censors were really oversensitive.
Whang music
I REQUIRE A DS REMAKE!!!
Does it really need a remake? I think that a re-release with a redone English translation(the original wasn't that good) would be better. Maybe they could throw in an extra bonus dungeon too, but I wouldn't mess with it beyond that.
